Right in the middle of no where. A good place to stop in for a drink or some good food at reasonable prices.

When traveling up to my hometown of Hayward a few times a year, we usually stop off in Eau Claire for lunch/dinner but will be making this restaurant our priority from now On. Round 2 one week later- my husband had been craving a good hamburger so this stop he had his hamburger and asked for his French fries crisp. I thought that was funny because our last stop here the French fries are already crisp which makes them the best French fries! Alas, his did come out a little darker and a little crispier. He said his cheeseburger was excellent and it was also huge, and he took 1/2 of his burger and fries out the door with him. He also had a cup of chicken and dumpling soup as I raved about it from our last visit. I ham an internal battle with choosing what I thought I should eat to save calories for our weekend, and what I wanted to eat. What I wanted to eat won so I ordered the Ruben with French fries and chicken noodle soup. Yummy. The sandwich was excellent with thin slices of roasted corn beef, just the right amount of sauerkraut and cheese and the Bo us is the sauce for the sandwich was served o. It's a vintage-looking building with a fenced outdoor area filled with tables and metal chairs. Umbrellas provide shade if needed. Inside, there's a bar with seating and several tables of different sizes. The space has a vintage vibe with bare brick walls, a metal ceiling, wood floors, and even a six-foot-high metal vault door. We were greeted right away by our cheerful server, who explained the menu and took our drink order. I went with the mocktail, St. Peri Spritz (there's also a version with alcohol). While waiting for the rest of our group to arrive, we played some of the games available. There were several other groups there, some with kids, and the noise level was just right for conversation. When everyone arrived, we placed our full order: cheese curds for an appetizer, then a variety of burgers with sides including fries, Brussels sprouts, and cauliflower. The cheese curds came out first -- a generous portion and served hot. The breading had (what I think) chili flakes mixed in, giving it a little spice without being overpowering. Very good. The accompanying Spicy Valley Sauce was a nice addition and, again, not too hot. The burgers followed shortly after, and they were all excellent. I had the Wisco Whiz with cheddar, whiz, bacon, dijonnaise, caramelized onion, pickles, and a pretzel bun. It was almost perfect. The only disappointment was the bacon, which was tough and detracted from an otherwise amazing burger, so I set it aside. All the sides we ordered were also very good -- my Brussels sprouts were outstanding. Overall, a fantastic first visit. Excellent burgers, friendly service (thanks, Aubrey), and a casual atmosphere. Would love to come back again (hold the bacon).

Came with a side of gravy for dipping your burger or heck dip your fries in between that and the valley sauce. I have no clue what is in that sauce but I could take a few jars of it to bring home. The corn beef frappe was good so was the Monte Cristo but they were just good not great. Both had melted cheddar - not a fan. The pie was much better. My family really liked it. At first glance it's a diner with a pie case but check the menu for some unlikely finds. The Wisconsin Reuben was delicious, loaded with thick corned beef and lots of butter and sauerkraut so you didn't even need the thousand island. I wasn't sure how a Reuben would be without rye but the cranberry wild rice bread was the real star of the sandwich. The corned beef hash was a bit salty but I'll take homemade over the canned stuff any day! I had to try a side of their sausage gravy because my southern roots demand it, and I can say it's a decent attempt with good amount of black pepper and sausage flavor. They have an extensive case of pies which were tempting but we were full from lunch. We ended up loving the bread so much that we took a whole loaf home. Service was friendly which was a relief considering we ended up coming in at 2:20 when they close at 3. Next time in the area I definitely want to try the pie and maybe a smelt wrap made with lefse!

Lots of memorabilia from long defunct breweries. My Bloody Mary was excellent as were my fish tacos. While we visited their onsite brewing was on hiatus because they need to be re-licensed after the ownership change. Looking forward to that happening!

I had the soup special, a bowl of the French Onion Soup, and my wife had the Pub Burger. Although both dishes were presented attractively, neither one had a "wow" factor, and in fact, were bland and lacking in flavor. It's too bad because,I was really in the mood for Onion Soup. The onions were cooked well, but the soup really was lacking in taste. I think the broth tasted like canned broth and did not have any depth of flavor. My wife felt the same way about the hamburger; it also was bland. So neither dish was particularly memorable. So one less star for food. They also loose another star for their continued surcharge for both a credit card and a debit card. When I rated this place two years ago, they were charging a 5% "employee pay supplement" which is no longer legal. However, it is also illegal to charge a 3% surcharge on both credit cards and debit cards (this new law was effective in January of 2025). Restaurants CAN charge for credit cards, but it is illegal to surcharge for debit cards. In fact, not only is this a Minnesota law, it is a Federal law, and part of the rules for Visa and Mastercard. Another option is that restaurants CAN give a cash discount from the menu, but to do that the menu must show prices using the credit card price and state that they give a (in this case) a 3% discount for cash (note: a menu discount, not a menu surcharge). If a credit or debit card is used, then it must match the MENU price and the check needs to show the menu price total, and separately show the cash discount. I tried to show the General Manager this law and explain it, but he was very dismissive and borderline rude. At first he tried to tell me their was a discount for paying in cash, so I asked him if that was discount off of the menu price, and he said no. A lack of a surcharge is NOT a discount; it is a surcharge!
