    Chicken biscuit gravy bowl
    Jan K.

This was our first visit to Sid's. We stopped in for brunch and found this diner to be cute, clean, and busy. The owner, Jay, was a one man show, as apparently the waitress didn't show up for her shift. This didn't mean that we had to wait any longer than normal at any other place--we still had hot cups of coffee and our meals were out in a jiffy. My mom went with the eggs benedict and hashbrowns; she said the hollandaise sauce was very flavorful and she enjoyed her crispy hashbrowns. I indulged in the chicken biscuit gravy bowl and it was every bit as naughty as it sounds. There was no way that I could eat the whole thing, despite the fact that the biscuits, crispy chicken bites, gravy, and cheesy scrambled eggs were absolutely amazing!!! We definitely plan on stopping back in soon on a Friday to try their beer battered cod!

The food and service is what you would expect from a family based restaurant. Simple but tasteful and hardy.

Then the portion sizes were fantastic everything always taste good. If you wanted value this was a place for you and your family....Now portion sizes much smaller and the prices have gone up past what it is worth. Tonight when we ordered...our salads came out first as always, we had just dressed our salads and the main entree was already at the table. When My family goes out to eat we would like to eat our salads then have the main come not at the same time. My husband had Beef and Gravy one of his favorites and the beef looked to uniform close to what a steakum looks like. Not much gravy and if he asked for some extra he would have been charged. I had the chicken strips and fries...the fries had a fishy taste like the oil was not changed. When we paid the bill I did complain to the owner/manager about what was wrong. I was told with all the people here you are the only one to complain. This restaurant in the the beginning there was always a waiting list, on a Friday and Saturday night. Tonight this restaurant was not even half full.

The ambiance is casual with lots of fun things to examine on the walls - some historic, some new. We started with the Brussels sprouts, loaded with bacon and Gouda cheese. These were a huge hit and we cleared the entire plate. I ordered the Sheely burger with truffle fries and definitely ate beyond capacity. The Mr. ordered the ribeye special and it came out medium rare just as he likes. He ate every bite and when he saw that you could buy a round for the staff for $10, proceeded to do so. He appreciates a perfect steak. Can't wait to come back and try some other items! *NOTE: CASH ONLY*

They were very attentive. The drinks were good. I had the Sheeley old-fashioned, made with Bulleit Rye, a fairly standard Wisconsin style old-fashioned. My ribeye was just a little overcooked and my wife smashed burger was just a little undercooked. The food overall was pretty good. I'll definitely go back. I can't believe I've never been there after all these years.

Ambience and Experience: My family wanted a hearty brunch option that was just off the highway…read morewhile going through Wisconsin in the Chippewa Falls area. I Googled for places and this place had an outstanding score, so I was expecting good things. And that is exactly what we found here. It was a local diner scene with a little upscale flamboyance thrown in to make it something much more special. Food: Fresh and quality are the two main highlights on the menu. I noticed a lot of things were made in-house and prepared daily. The produce that was on each dish was bright, vibrant and at peak freshness. The berries were bold, the lettuce was crisp and the tomatoes were meaty and big. It kicked everything up a notch. And yes, the food was amazing because of it. Large portions to fill you right up and get you ready to get back on the road. Verdict: Awesome food without losing that small town feel made this an A+ stop. This will be a spot to visit again when we are back in the area.

While we were waiting, we were offered a couple of smaller tables, which would have split the group. We declined (but appreciated the offer). Got seated, with menus and waters. The server took our drink orders, and those items came right away. I was surprised by the fresh-squeezed orange juice -- nice touch. The server was very pleasant, helpful, and efficient. It didn't take that long for all of us to get our orders. Everything was hot, flavorful, and good-sized portions. The pancakes were big and fluffy. The eggs were moist. My avocado toast was nicely made and tasted fresh. And the two poached eggs were medium -- exactly how they were ordered. The manager (or owner?) stopped by during the meal to ask if all was okay. It was. Definitely a place I would recommend or come back to.
