Love finding interesting places on our roadtrips. Was looking for uncomplicated food to feed the family on our trip down to the DE beaches. Short hop off the highway, near the large factory next to a large gas station and a bunch of trucks, is the Deepwater diner. If you're looking for Michelin star or haute cuisine; you're way off the mark. Simple honest working man's food, ya know like trucker diner food. Wait staff super friendly, cleared dishes quickly and service was on point. Waitress was kind and pleasant, explained options over and over without any hint of exasperation. We asked for the Greek salad to be without so much cheese, she was right on it. We ordered country fried chicken steak, meatloaf, hamburger deluxe and whole rack of ribs. The Greek salad starter was great, as was the crab bisque. They sent us a free appetizer of fries, fried Mac / cheese and chicken nuggets, it was delish. Then the food arrived, they were fred flintstone sized. Generous would be an understatement. Our international student friend who ate with us called it 'American sized' As much as we tried, we could not make a dent. Threw in the towel and packed most of it to go. Then they served us free ice cream. We went for strawberry, mint chocolate chip, moose tracks (reeces and chocolate chunks) and dark cherry. Some of the best we've had in some time. (Waitress said it's from Water Ice cream in Philly). Gluttons that we are, we got the whip cream on top. We'll Get back on the diet wagon next week. They also had signs for kids under 13 eat free! Finally we got the bill. 72 for 4 adults who could not eat even 1/2 of what was served. Don't be a snob, embrace the local diner and be open to different experiences. Hands down the best road side meal we've ever had! From the service to the food, this was surely a great, late night experience. Hubby and I road trip pretty frequently, and oddly enough we've never stopped here. Well, we stopped here for breakfast a week later on our way back north! It was a regular slow weeknight vibe, but the waitress had good energy. She was patient and allowed us time to make a decision. Even the next day, we enjoyed the food we took to go. Deepwater deserved an update ... it's become a 'go to' location for breakfast or lunch because the experience is top rated from start to finish all at extremely reasonable prices! No, this is not gourmet dining but it is top quality diner food and my goodness is it plentiful!! What makes Deepwater deserve five stars however is the welcoming service you will receive once you walk through the doors. We've been cared for by wait staff both young and old and no matter who it is you want to leave significant tips when you leave. Today's meal was great as always and I have tomorrow's lunch in the fridge. Fresh and tasty!! Really great soups!! Yes, I know the view out the windows is not great but they can't help their location. One complaint... I am tired of having TV's in restaurants because I go to escape the world unless I am going to a sports bar to watch a game. And, if you have to have TVs distracting meal conversations at least don't make us watch political TV networks because some of us are offended by them. read more

Sooooooo... the food was not great. It was ok. The service was bright and friendly but it was late night and it seems there are noisy regulars who come to hang out with the staff - it almost had that "Cheers" vibe in a way, there was a decent group of them all along the front and they were loud and enjoying each others company. The coconut custard pie is a winner. This would be a two to three star experience except for the coconut custard pie and the fact that this is a legit 24/7 location. We need to support our 24/7's so they don't limit their hours!! read more

We stopped by to this diner for lunch on a weekday. It seemed like a staple in town. There were people there even during a work day. We ordered a breakfast sampler with corned hash and home potatoes and the gyro sandwich with French fries. They were pretty tasty. read more

I've been living in the area for quite a few years and never actually dined in here, until last night. After a couple botched DoorDash orders from this diner during COVID, I decided to give them another try and dine in this time in hopes that things have improved. I arrived and the diner was practically dead, so I was advised to sit wherever I wanted. I found it odd that a lot of the "cleaned" tables that had silverware on them still had a lot of crumbs. I tried to pick the cleanest booth I could find. A gentleman came and took our drink order, and smelled horribly of smoke. I just brushed it off, but I wasn't too impressed. Then, when our drinks came, I noticed they were using Dunkin' Donuts straws. That was just weird. I ordered split pea soup and the hot turkey wrap. As you can see by the photos, the split pea soup was disgusting. The consistency resembled mashed potatoes. It was actually nauseating. The "hot" turkey wrap had pre-shredded cheese in the middle that was not even slightly melted, so there was nothing even warm about it. The turkey was dry and tasted old. The bacon in the wrap was nothing more than bottled bacon bits you buy at the grocery store. Honestly, the best part of the meal was the actually warm dinner rolls and butter that came with my husband's chicken parm. He said it was just okay. Yes, this diner is cheap, but the price also severely reflects the quality of food. For a few extra dollars, it's worth it to go to a nearby diner for much better quality food. Maybe their breakfast is better here, but I'm not going to bother trying it. read more

This is a place you want to aim for if you are passing by on 295/95. This place is a gem. The food has ginormous portions, the wait staff is amazing and it is squeaky-clean. I am so glad we took the chance to stop by. We were a party of eight. Had the philly steak, buffalo wings, mac and cheese, kids meals, shrimp pasta and veggie wraps. The food came out fast. It tasted great. If you want a quality diner with an affordable bill, don't pass this one up. read more

This is a good diner, the service is friendly, food is all good, prices are reasonable. It's convenient to 295 so it's a no brainer to stop if you're passing through. The issue is - don't be in a rush. They are slow. I gave only three stars because of this. Any time, even late or when there aren't many folks there, it is slow. Some of the servers like to chat with each other instead of attending to people, and the food comes slow regardless. Today, a waitress who I think was named Jill was on her own (for the most part) taking care of 14+ tables. I have worked in customer service for years, but I've never been a waitress. She was busting her a$$ trying to handle it all. (It was made obvious that 2+ other waitresses had simply not shown up. Also, requested help refused to come in. This was brought up because of the fussy couple behind me.) Our food took a little while, but we got what we wanted and it was DELICIOUS as it always is. We are frequents here. I always have leftovers. Jill was sweet as ever. The rude couple behind us left no tip. My recommendation: Come here! The food is great! The servers are friendly! We were looking on Trip Advisor for a diner just off I-95 to stop at for breakfast. TA listed the Deepwater Diner as the #1 restaurant in the area, so we stopped. Do not be put off by the exterior - it does seem a little drab. Step inside and be surprised - the diner was spotless, and the staff exceedingly cheerful and welcoming especially our server, Lori. The best part was that they offered a breakfast special of 3 eggs, hash browns and your choice of toast for $2.99 - what an inexpensive price for a great breakfast! The coffee was hot and delicious. Stopped by here for dinner on a drive back to NY thanks to Yelp. It looks and feels like the many other truck stop diners I've been to. If you've been to truck stop diners in other parts of the country, this feels right at home. There's the patrons which seem to be regulars, the over the top friendly wait staff, and ultimately the large diner menu. The various sections of the restaurant were sectioned by who the server was, which it normally is at other restaurants as well. Here though, the name of the server was neatly written onto a notecard placed on our table so we knew exactly who to expect immediately. Perhaps dinner is different than the rest of the meals because it was just OK for us. An overall pleasant experience but absolutely no reason to explicitly make your way here. read more

A real homey diner just off the NJ. Turnpike. Selina our most friendly and cheerful waitress was the charm and the highlight. It didn't matter that the coffee was weak and the home fries bland. (Throw an onion in with those spuds next time). Patrons were a lovely bunch of characters from the 7-year-old-boy with his grandpapa to the older women friends sharing life advice. Overheard: "Pick up that lamb chop and eat it with your fingers, that's what god gave them to you for." Directly across the street from a towering DuPont industrial site, (no odor once inside the restaurant) it was a slice of Americana worth visiting. And great prices! Rather than get stuck with greasy fast food at a rest stop, we got off the New Jersey Turnpike and found our way to this local diner. We were lucky to be served by friendly Beth, who warmly welcomed us and ensured that we had a great experience. The food was SO much better than we had reason to expect. The four soups were all homemade by the owner's family. The fries were hand-cut and fried up just right. And, while I'm not generally a huge cole slaw fan, theirs was homemade, and it was delicious! All of this (and check out the home-baked goods on display!) was super-affordable and accessible. Definitely consider a quick detour next time you're driving by! read more

Very happy with our decision to come here. The restaurant is located in an odd location across from some kind of factory. However don't let the location deter you. Service was very good. We didn't wait long for anything. All the food was good. We ordered everything from cheesesteaks to breakfast items to chicken parm. Nothing was bad. The cheesesteak was probably the best thing on the table. Also the coffee was really good. When we walked through the door we were Greeted by a young lady Who made us feel as if she were welcoming us into her home. She was very attentive to all of our needs As we waited on our server to come and take our order.After that our waitress Kelly came to take our order she never once rushed us always was there to fill our drinks and to attend to our every need. When our food was served the temperature was very delightful the flavor was outstanding I would recommend if you were ever in this part of town to stop at this diner and enjoy not just the food and drinks but the services well all of the staff that we encountered on our visit we're very very delightful I would give this restaurant a 10 star read more
