The worst service ever. We were seated right away, took 12 minutes to take our order and now we have been waiting 50 minutes for our food. When we finally got our food, it was all wrong. They got all 4 of our orders wrong, none of us got the right order. Everyone seated after us were served and gone before we were served. The food was Meh when we finally got our corrected orders. When we went to pay, they couldn't find our ticket and the manger said he was sorry for all the trouble and comped our bill, the one star is for him. read more

Visited here for the first time on Sunday. The restaurant definitely has the traditional diner look but is very clean. Plenty of parking in the lot and we were seated very quickly. We went around brunch time. I orderer a western omelette with American cheese. It came with potatoes. It was really good. I will definitely return. read more

My wife and I have been eating here since they opened and the food is always pretty good. My only complaint is that the menu is limited and they no longer have daily specials. Once you have had everything on the lunch and dinner menu you end up eating at other places for lunch and dinner. If you are on a low carb, low salt or no red meat diet it can be vey difficult to eat here. I eat breakfast here every Sunday but I just get the Doctors choice breakfast, mushroom or the spinach omelet. I wish they had turkey bacon since I do not eat pork. For dinner here the only red meat I can eat is liver with onions. The waitresses are very nice and from the time you order to your table is very fast! Service is great 5 star!!! read more

I have a fascination for sometimes going off the beaten path; avoiding the generic fast-food chains for something I've never had before. You never know when you might discover a hidden gem. With this place, it was off-putting from the moment I walked in. I can understand that it's 6:45 on a Wednesday night, but it's a very uncomfortable feeling sitting in a big empty dining room all by yourself and the only other customers you've seen are a few elderly couples who were just leaving as you came in. And then there's the other thing that's off-putting-the decor. My god, is this place outdated. When I think of a diner (not that this opinion is absolute), I try to think of something that's timeless, or at least charmingly dated, because it has a certain theme to it. This place looks like the house in every 70's/80's sitcom, with tile ceilings, wooden half walls, dividers decorated like stairway bannisters, and a lot more that makes you almost hear "Honey, I'm home!". But as for the food...thankfully it was alright. I wish my cheesesteak had more cheese instead a bit of a clumsy mess of oversized meat and bacon bits, but I've had worse. I was especially happy that the fries had a practically perfect golden brown, without being dry or soggy. So in conclusion...eh. I can't count anymore how many times we have been here. We come here pretty much every weekend and it is consistently wonderful. Always so fast too even when they are packed. I love their omelets and my husband typically goes for the country fried steak, chipped beef, or eggs benedict. Everything is always just so good. read more

Someone needs to teach the cook how to make an omelette. $14.99 omelette was scrambled eggs flattened consisting of probably 2 eggs. Was supposed to have cheese that I didn't taste at all. Oh geez how is this place still open? Walking through the door you can feel how toxic it is. And it's grimy and smells gross. Traveling through town, after being on the road for hours thought I could stop in this small town diner for a grilled cheese sandwich for my carsick 10 year old daughter. We reluctantly sit down and I ask the waitress if we could order one, even though it's still 10am. I guess I should have said, "egg and cheese sandwich, hold the egg." Because you'd think I just tried to order beef Wellington. Our waitress makes a face that communicates she's scared to ask. I thought, jeez that's sad, what kind of monster is she working for? But told her to just go ask. Because it's cheese and bread and this is a diner. She comes back in one second telling me "they said no." So I said we're leaving. My daughter later told me she didn't even go into the kitchen. So we walked over to the counter to ask to speak to whoever turned down a request for melted cheese on bread for a kid. This same server suddenly has a backbone but has decided to make the strange decision to be aggressive towards the customer. Now I'm in the twilight zone as she is trying to force me to go quickly saying "please lady just leave, I need this job to feed my 4 kids" I don't know what kind of psychotic tyrant is running this place but they do not value their customers. And they likely treat their staff in an abusive manner. Could be the chef, or the owner. I don't know, no one would go in the back to let them know I wanted to speak to them. But I'm guessing he or she has horns and sharp teeth. Because they have somehow instilled an unholy level of fear in their staff. And they hate children. And melting cheese on bread. You're better off heading down the road to Bob Evan's, they were very nice and laughed and said "of course," when I asked if we could order a grilled cheese. read more

I have been here for breakfast a few times now and I have always had great service. The food is consistently good and I appreciate the breakfast menu because of the variety of choices. I will continue to go to this restaurant when I am traveling that way. Of note to the manager - if you are sitting customers at the booth next to the phone that is answered for take out you watch that interaction and you hear the waitresses taking the phone orders. All of the waitresses should be rotating taking those phone orders. I was there for 40 minutes and watched one waitress typing on her cell phone when the phone wrang and did not go to assist in taking a take out order. All of the other waitresses were going around her to answer the phone. Not a good look and not a good team player. As a manager, you should watch this kind of behavior because when a good waitress is taxed in doing duties that someone else does not want to do, they walk out and find a new job. We were quickly seated for breakfast and there were already a good amount of locals dining in. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive and refilled out coffee cups constantly. After we ordered we got our meals fairly quickly. I got the country omlete with bacon, ham, sausage, green peppers, onions and cheese. It also came with a side of home fries and toast which came toasted and buttered. The omlete was absolutely delicious ! Home fries were okay. Overall for diner food it's pretty good! Coffee was decent as well. I like the atmosphere and it's pretty close to my house which is always good. My friends liked their meals as well. Good prices for decent diner food! read more

I dined in for lunch today. I decided to get 3 eggs over easy with toast and hash. The food was phenomenal and the service was quick. Unfortunately the price of my meal did not match what was mentioned on the menu. I approached the manager regarding and he brushed it off with no interest in discussing it. It is a shame because he disclosed to me that their menu prices were changed a year ago. Well they do not match the system when checking out. My meal was about 40% more than what the menu listed. This would easily have been a 4 or 5 star review for me but the lack of consistency with pricing and the lack of regard is disrespectful. Clean, great service, classic diner experience. Simple menu, great value. Wrap with egg, spinach and corned beef was satisfying, but a little plain. I added hot sauce and salt. Route Special platter was hearty and tast:. 2 big pancakes, 2 flavorful sausage patties, 2 over-easy eggs, and unique home fries (similar to a shaved potato with crispy and softer parts). Brewed iced tea was crisp and plentiful, with a fresh lemon wedge with each refill. Staff seemed to be locals, friendly and attentive. Guests were an older crowd, which didn't bother us. 2 TVs to watch. Fast, friendly service by a young guy. Dessert case had only grocery store pies (not homemade). As we left at noon, salad bar was being put out and looked good. Cheap cost:$20 plus tip for 2 breakfasts and 1 drink. I told the owner (cashier) on the way out that I added him to Yelp, but he didn't fully understand the site, I don't think. Restaurant is worth a try! read more

First time dining here. Atmosphere gives you a local down home feel. We were seated quickly at the "best seat in the place" according to our hostess :). Servers were very friendly and attentive. I can appreciate servers who let you know a menu item isn't the best. Based off recommendations I got the veggie omelette(tomatoes, onions, green peppers, mushroom, spinach and Swiss cheese). My hubby got the meat lovers omelette (ham bacon and sausage, with added cheese). For sides we shared bacon, corn beef hash, and short stack of pancakes. We were pretty hungry. Food was very good. My omelette was stuffed with veggies and cheese. Bacon was crispy. The corn beef was seasoned perfectly, it could have been a little more crispy on the outside, but that could be a personal preference. Pancakes were typical and good. Hubby enjoyed his omelette as well. Will definitely be back. This may be our new local breakfast spot. read more

6 of us were greeted and got seated very quickly because the place was empty. It was at 4 pm on Sunday. The waitress, Kathy had a horrible cigarette odor and I had to hold my breath till she left. House flies are all over place and landed on my head three times. All foods except breakfast were horrible. The cheeseburger was burnt, it was frozen patty from the package, not like the one I saw a photo on the menu. Photos on the menu are stock photos, not the ones they cooked. Deceptive! As you know that the place was empty, we had much difficulty to get our table serviced. Didn't refill our drinks but they were busy sweeping and mopping, wiping up counters and fill up whatever they are doing. The place was very clean but poor service and bad food. Breakfast is normally amazing. Really didn't care for the bacon. My food today seemed like it was fresh out of a high school lunch lady's ladle. The eggs were on par teetering on amazing. My hash browns and bacon were fried completely dry. Even the "I'll eat anything child" turned them down. Not trying to cast a bad light on this place. It's the locals "go to" place before town events. I've been here several times before and it time was just a little different. I have lived all over the east coast and have visited many states. I gotta say this place reminds me of the famous diner cars in New Jersey; except without the obnoxious neon and chrome. I would still highly recommend this place for a cheap quick meal. We hadn't been in two years despite being close by. The decor is pretty drab and lifeless and their food lacks passion. I ordered two egg and bacon on wheat toast...the picture was much more appealing. Their bacon is the thin, sheet stuff obviously pre-cooked and tasteless and it was mixed in a shallow omelet-scramble which didn't cover the bread. The sausage too had no flavor. Corned beef hash reminded me of the canned stuff I got at the local drug store as a starving college student. And the water was definitely off ...yes, the water! During COVID-19 decided to take a chance to go out for breakfast. I've been to Middletown Family Restaurant many times but was very disappointed this time. It wasn't the food, it was how I observed the clearing and cleaning of tables between customers. First, all the condiments were kept on the table and not disinfected. It's been my experience at all other restaurants that condiments were in packets or sealed individual containers. Second, a wet cloth was used to wipe the table and seats, the same one that wiped all other tables and seats. This made me uncomfortable as again, all the other restaurants use spray disinfectant and paper towels that are thrown away after each use. Definitely not going back. read more

Great place for breakfast! The waitresses are so friendly and accommodating. I am gluten-free and asked for multiple substitutions on my omelette. This is my second time here, and both visitwere great experiences. The coffee is fantastic and has never ending refills. The waitress remembered me from my first visit a week prior. They need to get to get rid of the manager! The food is very good, but they will rip you off every chance they get. Our dog was in the hot car so we purchased a seafood platter to go. We were promised TWO hamburger boxes to place our all you can eat salad in. There was only ONE! We asked for four slices of wheat bread instead of rolls. We were told the bill would be 19$. When we picked up the order the cost was 22$!!!!!! We were charged 3$ for two extra slices of wheat bread!!!! We could go to Acme or Safeway and buy an entire loaf of wheat bread on sale , and it would only cost us that for the entire loaf. We stopped going to this restaurant by bad experiences in the past. Route 40 Diner between Glasgow and Bear is a much better deal! There was a great difference between what we were promised, and the actual experience. There had to be a jerk manager or owner in the back dictating the rules. Get rid of him or her. It will be a long time until we return again. read more

a nice little diner. has all the standard diner fare ranging from breakfast foods to sandwiches to broiled seafood entree. the wait service is friendly and fast: my food [a grilled sandwich] was ready in under five minutes. i didn't get an up close look at it, but there is a salad bar. the decor is badly in need of updating, and the crowd was deathly quiet when i was there. there is a tv suspended from the ceiling in a corner of one dining section; nascar was on. good for good food, cheaply and quickly. i'm adding it to my rotation. read more

Can't tell you anything about the food, but the people who run/work at this restaurant are lovely. I came in with my toddler just looking for a changing table. They graciously pointed me to the women's restroom (awkward, but you do what you have to) and chatted with my brother-in-law while I slapped a fresh diaper on the kid after seven hours in the car. When I came out, the staff handed my son a stuffed tiger. A young man working the counter had pulled a dollar from his own pocket, fed it into one of those claw machines that always get the best of me, and grabbed a tiger for my kid. We bought a soda to go.
