Solid breakfast. I split pancakes with my kid and got a breakfast wrap (with sausage and peppers). The vibe was exactly want you want in a breakfast diner. Depressing space with substandard fare. I was going to write a review as soon as we left but my husband said, "why don't you wait to see if we get food poisoning first". We didn't. But seriously, I had low expectations going in and it was still a big let down. To begin with, we ordered some kids' meal which we assumed were pretty straightforward- a hot dog with fries, and spaghetti with meatballs. Both were pretty bad. The hot dog came sliced up on a hoagie (what?) and the spaghetti was topped with tomato sauce and a solitary meatball. The other meals were mediocre as well. To sum up my visit if you are the type to cover your eggs and home fries in ketchup this may not be a bad place to visit. Unfortunately I'm not one of those people and I found the food wasn't seasoned. The home fries were just sliced potatoes. I ordered the Italian Omelette. Completely unseasoned and it seems as though they threw one large slice of provolone cheese into the omelette. The coffee was not great. The positives: inexpensive breakfast, fast and friendly service, generous portions. I wish based on the positives that I loved the food. Unfortunately it just doesn't stand up to other breakfast spots I've been to. read more

Received the greatest take out service and the food was just what we were hoping for on a cold weekend morning. Our order was made quickly and and I look forward to the Pandemic being over so that we can make this a regular breakfast dine-in spot. Went here for breakfast one Saturday morning. There was a breakfast buffet that the waitress was overly eager to recommend. We made the biggest mistake of our lives by not physically looking over the buffet before we decided to have it. Everything looked disgusting when we got over there but there were so many people around lapping up their meals and returning for seconds that we put our better judgment aside and dug in. Once we had gotten back to our seats, cracked open our plastic containers of syrup and dug in, I realized there was a dead fly on my plate sitting in between a chunk of canned pineapple and cantaloupe. Found this place while searching for diners along our route on Google Maps. It has over 4 stars on Google, and I felt like eating some non-chain restaurant cooking for lunch. The place is not much to look at outside or in, but we had a very pleasant experience. My beau and I both had cheesesteaks and they were excellent: hot and fresh on super-fresh bread. Gayle, our server, was super friendly and helpful, as was the management staff. Good portion sizes at a very reasonable price. Only negative is that Bear's over-chlorinated tap water makes the ice cubes and iced tea taste close to pool water. We'll definitely stop in again if our travels bring us back this way. read more

The food came out a little slow but we were a party of six so that is understandable. The Bear Diner is such a cozy little gem in Bear, DE. It has great food at great prices. They have a weekend breakfast buffet that's only 7.99 a person and they offer scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, scrapple, hashbrowns, fried potatoes, biscuits, gravy, oatmeal, and more. I decided to try it today and was pleasantly surprised how bright, roomy and clean the place is. The Hostesses (likely the owners) are very attentive and jump in when needed. The wait staff are friendly and appear to know their regulars VERY well - evening asking one guy if he remembers to bring his Splenda (he had to go to the car for it. I have driven by this place many times commenting on how I wanted to try this place out. Well yesterday we finally did and it was one of my biggest mistakes. I am not one that post negative comments about places however I feel it must be shared. I ordered the broiled crab cake platter and they were a nice size and all, but when I took a closer look they didn't look as done as they could be, thinking it was just the way they may had looked being in a diner, which diners usually have great food, so I dug in, cut it in half and starting eating it, left the rest and tried second crab cake doing the same to where I said done because my stomach started feeling off from it.
