Very clean bathroom and showers at the fox den. I should also mention that there's HOT showers! My friends said that it's the newest area opened at Derr Creek. It's well worth the $60/day fee with full hookups. The campsite also has clean fire pits, picnic tables, and a water spout. It's dog friendly and other campers are good about keeping their dogs on a leash. There's a boat ramp and a nice walkway to the "beach." There's a few picnic tables that I saw people enjoying their lunch at. It's fairly quiet and during the day since everyone seems to be on the water. Everyone respects quiet time at 10pm so it was a pleasant experience! read more

Deer Creek State Park - Parks Near Me - Wallsburg, Utah

I think this might be my favorite reservoir to visit in Utah. The view of Mount Timpanogos is so stunning! There's a sandy beach to lay out on, and grass patches in the shade as well. There are lots of pavilions and plenty of bathrooms. I've come here a few times over the years for the 4th of July, and even though it's probably one of the busiest days here, there's always plenty of room on the beach for everyone. The parking lot here is another story. They have extremely limited parking in their main lot, and then some over flow parking across the street. If you're coming on a holiday weekend or probably just a weekend in general, it's important to get here early. We had part of our group get there around 9am and they got one of the last spots in the main spot. We got there around 10:15am and were able to park in the overflow across the street, but once that's full you CANNOT park on the road, you'll get towed or ticketed, as we witnessed happen to many people on the 4th. A little ways up the road there is a pull off to park in, however you have to walk along the highway to get back to the state park. We've done it before, and it's not ideal. There's a gorgeous hike here to Chair Rock - I found a trail guide for the hike from Girl on a Hike's blog and it's a steep but VERY rewarding hike. Deer Creek State Park - Parks Near Me - Wallsburg, Utah

I must admit, I did not pull my kayak into the very busy main lot. Instead, I drove down to a little pull off area closer to Tate Barn. (still state park). Parking was not easy as it was crowded for a Sunday. Cars and pickups were lined up from the entry point. There were some shade trees, and thankfully, I scored a spot as a small boat was pulling out. There's an outhouse here. And unfortunately, many people with disregard for others: It was a challenge wiggling through beach chairs and blanket babes, kids in water, and dudes and dogs to get to drop my kayak in. It was as though everyone wanted toes in the sand type real estate. (No sand though.)Many "Excuse me's..." to get into and out of this area. Idk if park rangers can place a sign "keep an invisible ramp area clear". Great area for standup paddle boarding, kayaking. I'll go back. Different crowds on different days! read more

While visiting my sister last year, we came to Deer Creek and spent about 3 hours here. We came early in the morning so there wasn't a lot of people out and about yet. It was nice, quiet and peaceful. We had brought a few fishing poles to fish and our kayaks to paddle around in. There's a lot of room to go kayaking and we were the only ones in the water so it was really nice and serene. This is also a great place for a picnic and to get some sun. Sadly the day we went was pretty cold and windy and it also started pouring rain, so we didn't get to stay long. However, I can tell that this is a place that I would frequent a lot if I lived near it. Overall, the experience that I had at Deer Creek was pretty good and I would definitely come back. read more

I am giving this four stars only because there is a lot of boat traffic. We are primarily a paddle-board and kayaking family, and the boaters at times are not as considerate of those not in boats. But the reservoir is absolutely stunning! I recommend going during the week as weekends, unless earlier in the day are busier with more people on the water. By not being as busy it is quieter and more peaceful on the water. We always pack our umbrella, but at the rainbow entrance there are spaces with plenty of shade to have a nice break from the sun. Parking is on gravel, and you do have to walk down to the water, which was harder for older persons in our family, but not impossible! Had great spots next to the water to allow for them to sit and enjoy nature outside without getting scorched in the sun! A really nice place to visit and get outside on the water with some pretty spectacular views! read more

I visited to camp in my trailer in September and had a great experience. Most of the people visiting the park were in the water all day, so the campground areas were mostly empty. Sites were mostly pull-throughs and the fire pits were kept cleaned out, which I appreciated. In the Great Horned Owl campground, sites 2, 4, 6, 20, and 21 are the best/most private, in my opinion. This campground has no hookups (just a few water spouts throughout), but the Chokecherry campground has full hookups. There is a dump station at the main entrance for those in need, along with potable water. There are many nice picnic spots around the park, although many require a walk from the parking area, so be sure to bring a rolling cooler. The boat launch area is a very large ramp, but I could definitely see how it could get crowded in the summer. The reservoir was huge and beautiful, and I'd love to go out there in a boat sometime! However, I am boatless, and was disappointed to see that the "beach" was super rocky and the water was kind of scummy at the shoreline, so I probably wouldn't recommend coming here just to swim. Overall, there are definitely more beautiful State Parks out there, but Deer Creek was great for our weekend camping trip. read more

Beautiful as ever, have been here several times over the last few months and each time it's amazing and you see different things when you come, from deer to foxes, and the water is so beautiful, the people you meet are all nice and very friendly. I really enjoy myself when i come here, some of my friends we drive here and walk around and or bring our dogs here and talk and hang, it's an amazing place to come and hang and i definitely recommend it if you want a place to hang and see beautiful views. read more

Lake has continued to get busier and park staff doesn't seem to have the resources or willpower to enforce boating laws and regulations, or to keep the launch ramps in some sort of order. Typically long lines to get into both the Main and Island gates throughout the summer, despite the new double entry and office building at the Main gate (which is almost never opened/used). Boaters and jetskiers often pass within just a few feet of other boats and swimmers. Usually with full ballast and huge surf wakes (or just doing haphazard circles with tubes in tow). read more

Haven't ever camped here so can't say much on that topic but this park is amazing just to take pictures or to visit. Sometimes I think they charge to get into this but you can also just pull over to any area and take picture. I have been on this reservoir in a boat and it is pretty sweet. Small reservoir that is good for wake boarding and playing on the water with your ski/wake board boat. Not big enough for pleasure cruising or canoeing, so if you have a big boat and you're looking for cruising it, do go to this lake. It is way too small. If you are looking for a lake close to Provo/Orem for wake boarding, waterskiing, surfing, kneeboarding, or just pulling tubes around with your family, Deere Creek is an excellent choice! Be awake that depending on time of day and weather conditions, this body of water will get choppy from wind coming through the canyon. I have been on this lake when it is mirror flat and also when there's small whitecaps. It just depends on weather AND time of day. Early mornings are usually great, few boats and smooth water. Middle of day, when really hot weather works too. Finally, because I live about 18 minutes away and can be on water fairly quickly, getting on the lake two hours before sunset also works fine too. Most people who came early are already headed home and because I have an annual state park pass, I don't care if my time on the water is less than two hours, and the lake is usually empty. If you are into windsurfing, you will like this venue when the wind gets whipped up. The winds that come through Provo Canyon can really pick up. So, this lake/reservoir is perfect for wind surfing and jet skiing. This brings up another item I would recommend to local serious boaters; buy an annual state park pass. It costs $70 dollars for the year and it gives you unlimited access to ALL Utah state parks and lakes! So, just like when you have a season pass to Disneyland or Disneyworld, you can come for two hours, late in the day, every day, and the early bird, all day attendees are tired and ready to go home, when you are just arriving! Snap! The lines are short. The same holds true for boaters. Lake is empty, water calm, and you don't feel the need to arrive early and stay all day to get your money's worth like the day pass purchasers do. Buy a season pass and use it often. It is well worth it. Consider the fun if being on the lake Monday evenings with your family? It's a fun FHE event that you can easily plan and work into your family time. Have fun! read more

I've camped in my RV here twice this year and it's a really nice park. The spaces are mostly pull-through and utilities are water, electric, and sewer. Camp hosts clean the camping spaces as campers leave, so the park is clean. The lake is beautiful and although I didn't fish, other campers were catching fish. The surround area (Provo Canyon) is beautiful and fun to explore. I didn't use the showers but the restroom was clean. Wifi is non-existent unless you bring your own, but even then wifi and phone service is spotty. Close proximity to Orem, Provo, and the Heber Valley. Closest restaurants are in Heber City. Park officials are on location from early morning until 10 PM and are very helpful. read more

Had our family reunion here at the Wallsburg Campsite (group area). Not so bad lots of shade and pavillions were nice and clean. Bathrooms and Shower could use some upgrades like paint and heavy cleaning but not so bad because it was cleaned every morning by the workers. We did have one problem when we first arrived and that was the previous campers had filled up the garbage bin to the top and the smell was awful. We did let the workers know and they were on top of it. My family enjoyed our stay there. We went swimming ( which is a two min drive from campsite) and swimming shoes is a must have. There were a lot of rocks and stickers (the size of a nickel). The water was dirty in the area we were at, so we just stayed cleared and watched others swim. My 6yr old son wasnt a fan of those stickers it freaked him out lol. There is a walmart 5 mins away so that wasn't bad. Good family area to go camping and water activities. read more

This park has stunning views, good covered picnic areas, and a campground. I stayed the weekend here in one of the tent sights. The campground has some large trees in the tent area and if you get the right site you can be in the shade most the time. You also have your own fire pit and picnic benches at each site. There were hardly any bugs and no mosquitoes that I saw. Staff were very informative and helpful answering my questions. Wallsburg Bay is a large wakeless area that I can paddle board in and get away from the motor boats. There is a big ramp area and on one side of the ramp a designated smaller boat launch area. I did get stopped by the fun police in a boat checking to see if I had a jacket on board my paddle board, (which I did not) she informed me of the rule (apparently you are supposed to have them attached to the board) and then had a extra life jacket and let me borrow it for the day. Friendly and informative encounter. No dogs are allowed near the water so I could not bring my dog Lucy to the water and had to leave her in the campground with a friend. The staff informed me this was a "designated watershed" and a direct line source to drinking water. They don't have a store near the campground but the staff stated when they get a new building they will be selling some items out of this. However the park is fairly close to Heber and Orem. In short i gave this park a good review for the friendly staff, great views, not many bugs, different areas to explore and i had a great time paddle boarding. Cons; Dogs restrictions. read more

The Deer Creek Reservoir is beautiful; however, it is horrible if you want to canoe there. It is mostly filled with speed boats and jet-skiers, who leave large wakes and love to scream and take over the place like it's a water park. Also, there is no place to put in and take out your canoe, unless you want to try to carry it (in our case 60 lbs) all the way from the parking lot across a long path with small boulders, or you can drive your car down the ramp with the boats and get yelled at by some guy who can't wait 5 minutes while we get the canoe strapped to the car, while the guy with a boat next to us who has been idling forever (much longer before we even pulled our car out) for no apparent reason gets to just sit there. If your idea of enjoying nature is akin to a loud casino, then this place is for you. read more

Awful and Filthy. $15 a day for Friday, Saturday, Sunday. They don't even attempt to clean the "beach" or make it really visitor friendly. The beach is full of rocks, Beer cans and water bottles. The water is nasty. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. read more
