Some very fond memories of my dad getting the old inner tubes, blowing them up, and tubing down. He took my little brothers a couple times and I went as a pre-teen and the hill seemed much smaller then. As a teen, my first ever paying job was here. Again, it was still a school, and they had baseball diamonds where I was an umpire for tee-ball. Such memories. When they got rid of the school, I was curious to see what would happen. What sprung up in its place was a park that the next generation of kids will have to fill their memories. Instead of the school, and a winter-only sledding hill, this is a full-blown summer park. Apparently splash pads are a thing. Safer than a pool (at least for drowning) and still built to keep you cool in the heat of the summer, there's a big ol' splash pad here that's built for the little ones to stomp around and get wet. Bring the sunscreen. As others have mentioned, there's a lack of shade here, so you'll want to protect yourself from the sun. And it's probably best as a weekday reprieve. It swarms with kids on the weekends and you might get elbowed around. Beyond the splash pad, you've got some playgrounds that are geared towards different aged kids, some courts, and a whole lot of grass. This park covers the bases for lots of kids of different ages and will surely be one of the places to provide them with fond childhood memories.

Where did the architects that work for for Cottonwood Heights get their degrees? Unbelievable. Hopefully the city has the cash to pony-up for some shade structures stat. Epic fail.

This park has had a recent facelift-the new Wild West Jordan Playground replaced the older wooden…read morestructures, and is much more accessible to patrons of varied abilities. I noticed wheelchair ramps, modified swings and playground facilities that anyone could use. From their website, the old playground was "loved to death." What a great thing! So the new one was constructed with EVERYONE in mind. Wood chips are gone and replaced with a rubberized soft play surface. There are plenty of slides, swings and things to climb on. There are also a bunch of areas that are covered by canopy-like things, providing shade cover. Parking is still a little iffy-the road is one-way and depending on where you enter the park, you may have to drive the entire loop before you get to the playground. But it's worth the drive. While you're there, be sure to check out the library and take a walk around the park-there's plenty of space to roam!

The park seems like it was built for this type of event-the large grassy area and the raised grass space around the perimeter makes for perfect seating and viewing of the balloons below. They have nice bathrooms and one of them includes a changing station. They have a water fountain by the restrooms. There is a big grass field to play on and 4 pickleball courts as well! I grew up just up the road, so I found my teenage self here plenty of times. Meeting up with the ladies. You know how I be. These days it's more of an attraction for the tennis courts or pavilion. But either way, it's a big park with lots to do. If you like to run, but don't want to map a route around the neighborhood, they do have a nice, paved jogging path around the whole park. You'll probably have to fight with the stroller moms a bit (this is suburbia, after all) but it's a nice alternative to wandering around the 'hoods or bustling on busy roads. A small playground sits near the pavilion and parking area. It's a little tricky to get there. I just used to climb down the hill from Sterling Drive, but that's probably not going to work via the family sedan. From Sterling Drive (accessed quickly from 9400 S.) you can turn east on Plata Way and get to the parking lot by turning left at the park.
