It's obvious that Covid19 negatively impacted the business model with slow progress in obtaining residents (and expected income). Unfortunately Bonaventure decided to cover their loss by raising rents FAR beyond what was earlier predicted and quoted. Even more egregious is the fact that the amount of increase is NOT standardized. Some are increased 6.5%, some at 7.5% and the really lucky residents are increased at 8.5% with no explanation or defense offered. Many of the amenities and services advertised have not been delivered. Some of this is due to Covid ~ but not all. We are now experiencing our second lockdown due to positive test results for a few residents. Though meals need to be delivered, Bonaventure is relying on a resident volunteer to deliver meals twice daily to the cottages instead of having it done by an employee! Meal service has been a constant problem for the past month with MANY meals simply not delivered. Now with no on site activities and no community dining some staff has been laid off ~ but these saved costs didn't prevent a rent increase. (It should be noted that there was a 2+ month lockdown last winter which also should have resulted in substantially reduced operating costs.) Numerous residents have complained and forwarded email objections but unfortunately Bonaventure management doesn't bother to respond or answer ANY concerns. A number of residents have recently indicated an interest in investigating alternative retirement communities. There is another review here attributed to my name. I did not write it. I believe I did post a positive review when I first moved in last year but that does not appear here and instead there is a post I don't understand and did not write!

NOT FAIR! People pay good money! Unfortunately, I am speaking about Covington Cottages at Vineyard Park. I worked there! And saw it all. Don't they know that we are the first people they sell to? They took the deposit and we notified his current facility he would be leaving and terminated his lease. Today when we went to sign the papers he was told he would need a higher level of care then he and my wife had thought and the price they had been told more then doubled. That in itself was not the bad part although the possibility of this should have been made clear in any discussions had before money was taken. Unfortunately costs were not talked about until to late and the total cost exceeded his income !! I asked "how did this happen !?" I had not been involved up to the point they were there to put the check deposit down for him to move in. I work in a facility that has assisted living and memory care. I asked how a potential resident had gotten to the point of moving in and deposits had been taken and notices given without anyone checking income to ensure this was a feasible situation !!!??? I stated "one of the first things the facility I work at checks is a potential residents income to ensure that they won't be getting themselves into possible financial trouble" It was a super embarrassing situation for us, how did this happen ? I was wondering, how did no one check income to verify this was doable. Now we are going to have to beg his current residence to renew his lease along with the 2,000 dollars he already gave vineyard. This was all bad enough for a poor rating, but what happened next was utterly mind blowing to me. The response from the staff rather then any sort of apology for misunderstandings or just trying to make an bad situation any better was to get rude and nasty !!? I said " this shouldn't have happened, someone should have caught this before getting this far" but at that point in my mind "no harm no foul" it's just a bad and embarrassing situation for everyone, but I instead got a dirty look and was told "well I guess you know better then we do and your just better then us " !!!! This is the most unprofessional and childish response to a bad situation I have ever received from someone not a teenager working at a food service establishment. I was so shocked I almost didn't know what to say, I told her what she had said was pretty rude and not necessary. I hadn't been combative or loud or rude at all at this point just frustrated with what was happening. As soon as they figured out we were not moving in the whole tone changed like someone flipped a switch. They got rude and short almost instantly as if all of this was our fault and we did this to ourselves. I am not saying my wife and father in law don't share some blame but they are not money people and your not moving into a place like this because you making great decisions for yourself..... This is basics 101 stuff (check a potential clients income before making move in times and taking deposits and telling them/helping them to put in notice somewhere they are currently living) No car dealership let's you trade in your car, sells that trade in, hands you the keys to a new one and then checks to see if you can afford it ..... Do better please ! People deserve to be treated better, I really hope we were only treated this way because of a lack of income and this isn't how you are treating your residents.

They went without management for 9 months which tells you a lot about the work environment and how people don't want to work for them, so they hire anyone with a heartbeat! My grandma pressed pendent because she was needed to use the bathroom and is in a wheel chair, and NO ONE CAME! She had to call me because she had then urinated on herself and I called the MEAN LADY AT THE FRONT DESK and she didn't care. I had to come down and help her myself. I had asked to get a meeting with the lady from corporate that comes in, but that never happened. It's a revolving door as far as caregivers go, and when they would come in and help my grandmother they would TALK BADLY ABOUT THE MANAGEMENT AND WHO EVER THAT LADY IS THAT COMES IN TO SIT IN AS THE DIRECTOR . she just locks herself in her office anyway. She never comes out to talk to us or anyone else, since she got there we could tell the place was going down hill. They basically keep you stuck here with little to no resources for leaving unless you get placed in an adult family home. Their pharmaceutical provider doesn't listen to patients and will not provide any information when trying to get ssi or ssdi. If you already have ssi they will take all but $70 of your check. The new director "Candace" has turned it more so into a prison like environment and has no knowledge of trauma informed care, so if you're suffering from ptsd like me this is not the place for you. They do not treat ADHD rather the symptoms of it. They took me off of the only medication that helped my panic attacks within days of being here, while a different person who looked different than me was kept on it for multiple weeks if not months. I have seen an actual doctor all but three times since being here almost a year. Being homeless and having no options for housing aside from here makes them highly capable of taking advantage of some of the most vulnerable individuals. Do not seek care here they are not a good residential facility, they treat individuals like criminals rather than human beings who suffer mental health illnesses. I want to express my current state of distress and concern regarding my safety and well-being in this environment. Unfortunately, I no longer feel safe here and have been experiencing a sense of being threatened and singled out. It has come to my attention that there are extreme double standards at play, which have further contributed to my unease. I feel compelled to raise the issue of Candace's lack of trauma-informed care and knowledge about mental health conditions, particularly concerning my own struggles. Her actions have resulted in me feeling harassed and bullied, specifically due to her disregard for my anxiety and trauma response around food and large crowds or groups of people. As a result, my panic attacks have significantly increased in frequency and intensity since she implemented her rigid and harsh approach towards me. I kindly request that my concerns be taken seriously, as they greatly impact my overall well-being and ability to thrive in this environment. It is crucial that steps are taken to create a safer and more supportive space for individuals dealing with mental health challenges. I hope for a resolution that ensures my housing stability and promotes a more compassionate and understanding approach for everyone involved.

I have been in many retirement homes and they usually have a smell. This place is always clean, no elderly smell and no chemical smell covering up any sort of smell. The staff is kind and always friendly. The grounds are kept well. They provide 3 meals a day in the dining room and it always nice. My mom has made friends and calls bingo. She is active and no longer living alone waiting for someone to stop by and break up the monatoney. She has a social life for the first time in a long time. Yet she has her own apartment and privacy. This place has been a terrific option for my mom since living alone is not an option anymore but neither is giving up her independence. This is the best of both worlds.

I urge you not to consider this facility. On the surface, Willow Gardens presents as a friendly,…read morecaring, and well-run institution, truly interested in your well-being. However, these values are paper-thin and are demonstrated by the following observations: * FOOD: Portion sizes are extremely small and are often more on the child-size. It is highly unlikely that the daily calorie requirements are satisfied by the sizes provided by the kitchen. Although residents can ask for "seconds", they must wait for the completion of the entire food-service only to discover nothing is left. Making things worse, management is often observed taking "double-sized" portions while residents eat undersized portions. Food is heavily based on carbohydrates with little attention to fruits, vegetables, protein, etc. And deserts are heavily vetted on cookies! * HOUSEKEEPING: WG claims to be guided by an incredibly detailed checklist, but their small housekeeping staff only permits 20-minute limit to complete a superficial job. And, they have limited service to once every two weeks during the Covid crisis, with further limitations on an already reduced service! * MAINTENANCE: Service takes a long time. A simple light bulb will take 3 weeks to complete. However, I have to give them credit for acting quickly on urgent things like heat. But, management hampers the ability of maintenance to act quickly. For instance, sprinklers cannot be repaired because management claims to be "bidding" the project. Consequently, we have flooded sidewalks, at times. * MANAGEMENT: Managers are new and inexperienced at large hospitality facility management. They readily pacify residents with "we're doing the best we can" and "we're working on it" excuses. While they hold resident meetings, they do not readily seek out resident perspectives on their needs or satisfaction. * APPEARANCE: As I walk around the facility, little things pop-out that signal problem. Pictures are not hung at the same height. Dust is everywhere. Chairs are askew, and clutter hallways. Managers are sitting at their desks, not walking around interacting with residents. Smells from the rooms can be pretty obnoxious, at times. Some residents have reported obnoxious smells from resident rooms. So, why am I here? Well, it's for an entirely different reason. Other things overcome these obstacles. It has to do with location and the offerings that would give away my identity, but these problems are still overwhelming and deserve mentioning. I suspect, though, that I'll be shopping after the crisis.

My mother moved in during Covid... Immediately the diamond out of the wedding ring that never left her hand for 50 years was removed... The setting tines had been pryed apart, and the diamond was gone That was the first sign that this was not a very good place We had to sell her home, cash in her savings bonds and clean out all her accounts - and when we reached the end of the money and applied for a Medicare Brookdale retroactively removed cash discounts on paid in full bills for several months and demanded that I pay thousands of dollars or they would not accept Medicare Medicare intervened and paid them the back payments they claimed I owed. But they weren't done yet. They attempted to move my mother to another county in another facility because they said that they had "over sold their Medicare beds." During her time there they would refuse to communicate with me and often spoke to her doctor without speaking to me at all (I had medical power of attorney.) Her doctor called me once concerned that they had asked to have a specific medication prescribed that the doctor said was dangerous and mounted to "chemical restraint". My mother had several falls in 2025... They're expensive system in each room that is supposed to attack falls failed. They did not realize she had fallen until they found. She was in pain and had a bruise at which time they reviewed the video and found that it had started recording when she was already on the floor. Many times they would call from personal cell phones and not leave messages. I spoke to them many many times asking that they call from a known number that was in my contacts so I would know it was from Brookdale, but they refused. Finally, on January 1 of 2026 an email went out with the subject line. "happy new year". I received like many people many of these messages from banks, mechanics, insurance, companies, etc. These messages are plentiful on New Year's Day and often ignored. However, barriered several lines into this email was the notification that there was a flu outbreak with four confirmed cases. However, despite an incredibly bad flu strain and the advanced age and fragile health of many of the people living here, they refused to do any in-house testing I literally heard that staff urged the administrator to call me about my mother's condition multiple times and she refused. Finally, on January 7, she had developed an infection in her neck that did not allow her to eat or drink. At that time staff again urge the administrator to call me. She finally did however, she assured me my mother did not have the flu and she would not call the doctor, but I could come get her and take her to the hospital if I thought it was necessary I insisted they call the Doctor, who immediately arranged for her transport to the hospital. I arrived at the hospital before my mother. When she arrived, they tested her and found out. She had the flu and pneumonia as well as an infection in her neck. However, by this time, there was nothing they could do and they recommended hospice. The administrator showed up in the hospital telling me they did not do hospice but asked if I would like someone from a hospice agency they deal with to call me. At this time, I told her in no uncertain terms no do not have them. Call me. The next day they called me and said they were told I wanted the call. My mother passed a few weeks later. Once she died, the administration made me feel like a pariah and urge me to get her belongings out of her room as quickly as possible. I would urge everyone to move their loved ones out of Brookdale, if at all possible.

Shipped my loved one off to the hospital without my knowing about it. Found out he had a UTI and was malnourished. Loved one fell, and I wasn't told. Snotty attitude. I'll never be sure whether or not the staff there is lazy or competent or both. And? I'm still getting bills from the corporate office saying I owe more. It's an ongoing battle at a time when my family is dealing with grief and sorrow at the loss of this loved one.
