On Dec 7th, 2025, The Doctor was suffering from what we thought was heartburn. He took the usual actions to relieve the pain, but nothing was working. On Dec 8th, he had some ginger ale through a straw to help make him burp. About 15 min later, he was sweating, had a fever of 103 degrees and was shaking. I rushed him in the car and we head to Evanston Hospital (that will be a different review). We got to the emergency room and The Doctor was admitted right away. Several test and a CT scan revealed that a large gallstone had gotten stuck in his duct and caused all kinds of back-up and infection. The liver enzymes were off the chart and he had pancreatitis. The Doctor was in so much pain that he was given morphine multiple times and placed on massive antibiotics to deal with the infection. It was decided that a stent needed to be put into the duct to open it up and then remove the gallbladder. Problem was, there were no available beds and they felt that the procedures needed to move fast, so they found him a bed at Highland Park. He was transported by ambulance and by the time I got his things and got to the hospital, he was already in his room. The Doctor had the stent put in that Monday and the gallbladder removed that Tuesday. He was in the hospital for five days, so I worked remotely in his room. The room was really nice and I liked the set up they had. There was this seating arrangement that looked like a sofa, but it was split in middle with a table between two seating areas. I was able to work comfortably there the entire five days. The bathroom was very clean and large, with plenty of room for someone on a walker to get in and out. The Doctor did not use it initially because he was hooked up to a lot of tubes for antibiotics and monitoring. The staff came in every day though to clean the room and the bathroom. Sheets were changes when The Doctor was out of the room, but not everyday. This was not a problem since The Doctor was no mobile the entire time he was there. The Docs, Nurses and Staff were all very nice, constantly checking in on The Doctor and even asking me if there was anything I needed. The food was actually ok in terms of the menu The Doctor was allowed to eat from, although he was not all that hungry. There was a liquid and full liquid diet, then he went to a full diet. When he could eat, he got a cod dinner and a burger on the days he could eat. I had several bites and it definitely needed some seasoning, but a little tajin fixed it up for me. The hospital itself was clean and the check-in staff were nice. The cafeteria is an experience as it is in the basement. You will definitely get in a lot of steps getting there and back to your loved one. There is also a small self serve market on the first floor that has quick fixes for snacks, meals and drinks. In the main area is a digital Starbucks machine if you want a quick coffee. And several times I ran into these robots, who were on their way someplace. One got on the elevator with me. I have no idea why, but I did say "Hey what's up?" to it just in case...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I see this hospital has a low Yelp rating and I am not discounting those Yelper's experiences. My review reflects me and The Doctor's experience during a five day stay with them and I feel they went above and beyond for both us. During my annual physical, I felt that the care provided fell significantly below the expected standard. While annual physical is supposed to be a comprehensive review of my physical health, she rushed it through in less than 10 minutes, largely checking the boxes and lack of care at all. What is worse is her abusive billing practice afterwards. I was diagnosed with an early-stage chronical disease in the past that did not require treatment. During this visit, she proactively asked about it and I immediately stopped her by saying we don't need to talk about it. Still, she billed me for an additional office visit on top of the annual physical. Just like that, no treatment, no prescription, her asking me a question and my stopping her right away, she charged me an extra office visit! Outrageous! If you are looking for a new doctor or an existing patient going back to see her, watch out closely for her billing!

I suffered from chronic sinus infections that were just crazy. I went to Dr. Miller expecting the usual script and and a co-pay but what a pleasant surprise I got. He was so thorough and detail oriented that he asked questions that seemed out of sync with the routine I had experienced elsewhere. He asked about my lifestyle, my pillows, my diet, well you get it....and he LISTENED. I actually now understand why doctor's corporations are called SC for "service corporations". He was providing his Medical Services. He wasn't doing me a favor by seeing me. I was giving him an opportunity to practice medicine. Lightbulb, aaahhhhh moment. Did I mention he went to Harvard Medical School. Matters not unless they teach you human compassion there. Not only did he cure that malady, he cured me of pretty much everything and during the course of a general conversation, he discovered a something that several other doctors had dismissed or negelected. Under his care and direction, I have been treated as a person, not a number and put on a path to wellness. He had given me guidance and referals that have changed my life. When I had a rough patch health wise, he was my go to guy and Dr. Miller got me through a series of unrelated, untimely and unfortunate health issues. We've since kind of broken up because he made me all better, so much so that I don't really need to see him much anymore. Not that I mind. But you know what I mean. I have refered countless people to him and each and every one raves. He moved from the city to Northbrook which is a hike, but his demeanor, candor and knowledge are worth every second on the Edens. He is kind, gentle, caring and concerned. Dr. Miller is the first physician I have encountered that practices the art of healing. How refreshing.On their website it says under his philosphy "Dr. Miller believes in a strong patient-doctor relationship and working with patients to optimize their health care" Understatement of the year. And lets not forget the support staff, Janie, his nurse. Can you say loveable and sweet. And efficient and kind. And accommodating and warm. Yep, worth every second on the Edens and then some!

I won't bore you with the years of details of my diseases, but she took me under her wing and never gave up! She understands that a patient KNOWS their body and she listens to you from that perspective. She has NEVER thought I was crazy, or a drug addict, or a faker. I have referred friends to her who were in the same position as I was; ready to give up, frustrated, and tired of being dismissed. I can honestly say that Dr. Siegel is THE BEST, most caring, most competent, most intelligent and funniest rheumatologist in the entire state. If she moved her practice out of state, I would find a way to see her. I never want another rheumatologist to handle my care. Also, her long time medical assistant Shannon is AMAZING! She always listens and does everything possible to help me, even when she is swamped. I couldn't imagine Dr. Siegel having any other assistant. I am so fortunate to have these girls in my life, even if it is to treat RA, systemic Lupus (or RUPUS as doc calls it), Fibromyalgia, and everything else.
