It never happened to me in last many decades. I refused to do so because as per my knowledge and law a patient can pay his/her bill or dues through cash, check or credit/debit card. It is an unlawful practice and made up policy of MDHN for its own financial business malpractice in my opinion. Besides, As best of my knowledge I have no dues but in case If I had one which I was not aware of it, I must have been provided the bill at the desk on the day of appointment or I should have been told about it at the time when I made appointment or they should have sent me a notice ahead of time but they failed to do so and my rights to see the doctor was violated. The counter girl was very rude and uncaring. Not only she wasted my time and played with my serious medical conditions (I am 80 years old, I have brain tumor, spinal, nervous system and serious stomach problems and I have gone many procedures) but also my right were violated. I am considering to discuss this matter with an attorney or expert to file a law suit against them.

Dr. Mehta in 2015 attributed a long-standing problem to an eating disorder dating back to high school. I was 56 with very severe constipation that had been going on for years. I happened to see my chart with his note referring to my problem as psychological. I recently went to ER for a bowel obstruction. Multiple tests were performed indicating a nonfunctional colon due to its size and tortuousness. Not because of laxative use, an eating disorder, nor psychological issues. Simply because I was born with it. Had Dr. Mehta been more dedicated to solving my problem and less inclined to label "an hysterical woman," perhaps I would have enjoyed more quality of life these past several years... glad I have finally been seen by a doctor who is interested in helping me.

Dr. Tosiou was my first gastro guy, as I like to call him, and was stellar in all regards. I then had a subsequent colonoscopy (third, actually) with a different gastro at a larger, more renowned facility. Well, suffice it to say that it was not a good experience, also in all regards. I told Dr. T that I would never cheat on him again and he then explained why the experience was not a good one and that each body type has to be taken into consideration when doing any procedures. Wow. Who knew? Obviously the other facility did not. The good news is he was so kind and utterly unperturbed that I had wandered into other pastures, so I am back in the fold of his practice. Seriously, I would say, if you need a gastro guy, he is as good as they get. If there is any downside to the practice it's that he may be difficult to speak to directly if you have questions regarding your health status. He listens closely and pays attention to your concerns; he provides answers to those concerns in a detailed but not overwhelming way. He thoroughly explained the procedures with possible side effects; his office staff was excellent in preparing you for the next steps. The hospital staff were also terrific and guided me through the next steps and had me out of there in an amazingly short period of time. All in all a great doc and staff! They deserve five stars.

The male receptionist seems to think his main function is to rat out offenders who are a bit late. He was not at all friendly. I was 5 min. late by my watch, but it could have been the 10 min. that I was nailed for, as I later saw my clocks at home were a bit later than my watch. I had not expected traffic in downtown Highland Park to be virtually non-moving either. After I had waited 15 min., an assistant came out and informed me that I would be waiting through the whole schedule of patients for the day to go back, unless someone else was late, and then I would get to be called. I decided to leave and also to stop seeing Dr. Spanier-Stiasy since that seemed very unreasonable, and I couldn't guarantee, even to myself, that being a bit late could never happen again. She is a good doctor, but she is as strict as an old-fashioned school marm with her patients, and I can't see my old sick self being punished by waiting in an uncomfortable chair from 11:35 or 11:40 until 3 or 4, as the assistant told me.

My first appointment he made me smile when all I wanted to do was cry because I had been dealing with my UC for so long. Right away he came up with a plan of action and since then I have optimistic about my condition Understanding how a person goes about their day to day is important when treating them. He is always positive which helps when your in pain or just have a horrible day. He is knowledgeable and always makes sure I get in as soon as there may be a problem. He truly goes above and beyond and for that I am grateful. Nicole, my Infusion nurse has also been my rock through this whole process. She communicates with pure kindness. I only felt something at the very beginning of the procedure (not sure why it's not the practice for docs to begin once you're fully out instead of when you're *almost* under) and it was over in fewer than 30 minutes. He stopped by just after I'd been rolled back to the recovery stall to let me know how it went. I appreciated his skill and care, but didn't like that he didn't wait ten seconds until the anesthesia had taken effect to start.
