This golf course was very pristine and the greens are really nice! They didn't require face masks if you are fully vaccinated! The cashier that checked me in didn't have a face masks! The bathrooms are very clean! The course was pretty easy but the price is a little high for 9 hole! Pull carts are $6 for renting! $31 for walking for 9 holes! read more

Came here for the range specifically. Had some time to kill between meetings and enjoyed myself here. People were very nice and helped me get around to the range. This is the first time I went to a driving range that is built essentially on the course. When I went, it was empty so I had the range to myself - just me and a bucket of 100 or so golf balls. Grass was in OK shape but I heard it is maintenanced every Thursday I think - I was there on a Wednesday. The people working there do not seem to care that you pick up balls close enough to your bay either. So if you, or someone else, hits a ball 10 feet in front of you, you can grab it. Obviously much easier for me to do this being alone. Anyway, loved how quiet it is and how nice the people working there are. Would be nice to have perfect grass but tell me where I can get that if you ever find that. read more

Many of the less-than-stellar reviews of Deerpath are from 5-10 years ago. I encourage everyone to check it out now. They recently opened a really cool practice putting course, which is perfect for kids and/or serious golfers. The course is in fine shape and the outside patio is fantastic for lunch or a post-round beverage. It's a great place for events too (as long as it doesn't rain!)... I recently hosted an event there and many of the guests were asking me if this was a private club. The best part of Deerpath is the staff... The GM (Patrick) is incredibly helpful and accommodating, and that filters down throughout the rest of the team at Deerpath. read more

I was excited to find a good deal on last minute golfer for 30 bucks at this place. I get there pumped up and ready to play. I'm probably a 10-12 h-c golfer. I par the first hole, and admire the scenic views of the trees and landscaping. Then on about the 4th hole I realize how unfair this place is. I hit a perfect tee shot just off the fairway and I'm stuck behind a 130 foot oak tree. I can't even tell you how many great shots I had that turned into having to punch underneath tree limbs... Not to mention if you do happen to have a bad tee shot and end up off the fairway, your ball will most likely vanish into this tall/weedy grass area that seems to be everywhere ! I have played harder courses with more water and trees and have lost 0 balls in a round. This place I lost 8 balls in the first 4 holes. Frustrating. The greens are short and appear to be fast. But they have no life at all.... 80% of my putts ended up just being strait putts. The hole design doesn't serve justice for the price of admission. I like hard courses. But not unfair bull-s*** layouts that make you want to slam your 60 degree wedge into the green read more

I golf with the same group of friends each time I go out. We know each others skill levels, and we usually enjoy that when its 2-3 of us we dont have to add up to make a foursome. Two of us approach made a tee time, excited to play this well rated course. There I was, on the tee box, and matched with 2 other players- what a nightmare. They looked like Ernie and Vijay ready to dominate the course... long story short, they were great playing partners, and I am happy to say that my score rose to the level of the course I was playing on. WE went very late fall the first time, have been back since early spring and everything was in sharp shape. The greens were nice, the fairways were cut well, and the staff was very helpful. I really enjoyed playing this course and will be coming back for more. For the price, and the fact that its public I have to keep this course on my short list of places to play. read more

The course is fine...usually in decent shape. If I were to judge simply on the merits of upkeep, this place would likely get 3-4 stars. However, when compared to courses such as Countryside, Lake Bluff, and Bonnie Brook, this one loses out in several categories. First, the driving range is a joke. It's nearly June and they are still hitting off mats only. True, the previous managers appear to have let the range go to pot, but come on. Warm and relatively dry for a couple weeks and I still have to warm up on mats?! Second, value. Prices aren't ridiculous, but they are quite a bit higher than those I listed above...and the course is not definitively better or worse. For $59 peak play, I would expect a course that is noticeably better than those in the decent "value" category. Last, the grill has gone DOWNhill. This used to be one of the highlights of playing Deerpath - you'd come off of 18 and enjoy a good burger or sandwich in the clubhouse. I'm not sure of the reason, but the food is sub-par with very average service. read more

I've played this course many times over the years and never was impressed. My opinion and experience of the course has remained the same. The positive of my time there was the deal my friend found for 18 holes and a cart (25$). We actually moved quite quickly with a two-some in front of us, never waiting long to hit. Overall the course is in decent shape, they cleaned it up since I last played. None of the carts had score cards in them, so we figured we'd pick one up on the 3rd hole. It was disappointing to find that the score card box had no score cards but filled with water and trash. The greens were in decent shape, quite a few need time to repair guessing because of surrounding trees. On the 9th tee there's a call box with a menu...it didn't work. I then called using my cellphone and no one picked up. I finally called the club house to make my order. They were nice enough to drive the order out to us when we were on the 11th. Golf is never cheap, but typically for the price of this course you'd think that certain details would be taken care of. 2-2.5 Stars at best. read more

Deerpath Golf Course is clearly one of the best PUBLIC welcome semi-private; ie they are happy to take your membership fees if you require a status emblem in your social circle but can't afford your friends (youre right about that Patrick C. but your rating is whack son). Opened in 1926, DPGC features 6,255 yards of golf from the longest tees with a par of 70, course rating of 70.6, and slope rating of 130. I was blown away by the amazing condition of DPGC when I played in on a Thursday afternoon in June after a series of T-storms. A buddy suggested the course based on the amazing $27 for 18-holes + CART (yes a steal) and the drive out to Lake Forest was simple enough. Wow, it was worth it with beautifully manicured fast greens lacking the characteristic bumps and brown patches accustomed to public links. Gorgeous fairways of blue grass and excellent course design by Alex Pirie make DPGC a pristine gem tucked away behind the Lake Forest upper crust residential area. You couldnt tell there was three inches of water underneath your feet as the rolling fairways sponged it all away. Even after driving through a wet zone kicking up water, the grass was left unscathed and bounced back to playable form, a true testament to there grounds keeping. If you play like me, you will also be impressed by the strategic placement of sand and water, taming even the heaviest of hitters into finesse position play strokes. Don't even think about driving the distance on most of these holes, as DPGC will make you pay for your insolence. Also of note, the rough was exactly that rough, NOT RIDICULOUS (Im looking at you Jackson Park GC). I cant say enough about the deal and conditions of play at DPGC. When you compare the total price, relative distance, beauty and playability to ANY other public option, hands down, DPGC has to rank up in your favorites if you play Chicago. I would highly recommend an off-peak-hour round as our 3-person pairing played through without wait in just over 3-hours like Celeste C. mentioned (an amazing feat for any public course in June). DPGC also has a locker/changing room, great clubhouse with real food and drinks (not just snickers bars and gatorade), and very friendly workers.
