The free breakfasts were delicious and the owners were great. I have to say..... the bed was VERY comfortable!! I rarely am comfortable in beds when I travel, but I just melted into this bed. The cons..... our room was tiny! You could barely walk around the bed, and there was very little room for your 'stuff'. You better like the person you're rooming with because you're basically on top of each other... also, there was a loud noise coming from below the room during the nights... I think it was coming from the restaurant. Luckily, it didn't last too long though. The blonde girl who cleans the rooms (don't know if she's related or just staff) was rude to us about needing supplies for the room. We also heard her screaming in some sort of fight with someone in one of the rooms one afternoon. Who wants to hear that when you're spending money to stay somewhere??? She had a lousy attitude.... Most of our stay was good, but we were very claustrophobic in our room. If that's not an issue for you, it's a great little place.

The staff was warm and friendly. I only have one criticism. While the A/C was working, we had difficulty regulating it to feel comfortable. It was rather cold and clammy at night, but by morning, we felt fine. It wasn't so much the cold part that bothered me, but the clammy part was what got to me. Everyone kept saying how unseasonably hot and humid it was for Stowe, so who knows... maybe the A/C just had difficulty regulating itself... or we didn't know how to use it properly. It wasn't bad, per se, but it was a little uncomfortable some of the time. The room overall, though, was really great. Also, we loved that they had Netflix and Amazon Prime, so we could settle into the shows we were missing while traveling. That was a nice surprise ! Most hotels don't offer any of that. We had planned to dine out at one of the local restaurants, but we found out they were serving dinner at Grant's, the inn's restaurant. We were tired after traveling around all day, so we stayed at the inn and ate a great meal at Grant's. (See separate review for that.) Also, the common areas in the main building next to the restaurant are very tastefully appointed, spacious, with lots of games, books and sitting areas for people to utilize. We walked around them to see what there was but returned to our room to relax and watch some of our shows. My only regret was that we couldn't stay longer. One night in Stowe just isn't enough, especially at the Stowe Village Inn. Let's hope there will be a next time !

The price / night was reasonable, the breakfast included was very standard (coffee, tea, some breakfast pastries / bagels) but did its job to keep us energized for the days of exploring Stowe or hitting the slopes (!) The fact that the story was true and that this famous singing family settled in Stowe, VT because it reminded them of their homeland, well, it's been a long-time dream of mine to visit the Von Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe and feel the connection in person. And so I did... in July 2025, some SIXTY years after seeing the Sound of Music. We actually didn't stay here, which seems kind of odd considering what a fan I am. Now that I know how much there is to do in Stowe... and at the lodge itself, perhaps if we come back with plans to stay longer, I would stay here. The Von Trapp Family Lodge has so much to offer a person... whether one stays here or not. These are some of the activities: 1. Hiking 2. Mountain biking 3. Skiing / Cross-country skiing 4. Horse-drawn carriage rides 5. Sleigh Rides 6. Disc golf 7. Yoga / Massage 8. Bicycle rentals 9. Tennis 10. Swimming 11. Rock Climbing Wall 12. Indoor arts / crafts / culinary classes 13. Wine and/or beer tastings 14. Choice of 4 restaurants We thoroughly enjoyed walking around the lodge and grounds and learning more about the family and the history behind the lodge. Since this (ironically) my 1700th review, it's fitting that such a special place falls on a noteworthy review number.

We constantly get bothered on every trip to buy more points and they never take no for an answer. They always tell us it will only take 45 minutes and it ends up taking hours. Completely taking up one of your vacation days with car salesman type jargon. This was the first time that we showed up for a time share talk they asked us to come too come to and we were told they were over booked. This also came after their staff that signed us up for the meeting told us the day before that the recent purchase of points we made in Poconos, Pennsylvania had went bankrupt and was no longer operating. Yet we have been paying for the maintenance fees for that location this whole time. They told us that they would have sent us the information in an Email (we never received a thing about this situation in any email) So I pretty much took it as they did not want to have to talk or deal with us on this situation even though they were the ones who told us about it. Now Smugglers Notch location this is our first visit here. The lady and gentleman in the country store were pretty much the only people in the whole place with a genuine personality and were so pleasant to talk to every time we spoke with them. However, Every time we spoke with the front desk to get anything from coffee to laundry detergent it was always full of excuses. We have always noticed that once we don't buy or purchase more points the staff on hand becomes very off putting and very unapproachable at every Wyndham location. My wife needed extra laundry detergent and the staff member at the front desk told her to buy it from the country store instead of giving her any from the front desk. One staff member did come in on the conversation and gave my wife a couple small packages of laundry detergent. When we would ask for coffee for the room, we were told to buy it from the country store. Any hotel or even motel I've stayed in has never made us pay for any of these things. The room was down stairs. A good size due to other family members who were not able to make it. I've submitted a number of pictures here for what it's worth. Room is pretty worn and needs some modifications. TVs were not smart TVs. There were tap-con screws sticking up out of the ground of the threshold between kitchen and dining area. If we were bare foot and didn't notice it, would have not been good. Kept finding bugs in the beds and couch (pictures provided) yes we are in the woods and in a place located on the bottom of the building I get it. Went ahead and vacuumed the whole place myself with the vacuum they have located in the closet. Main bathroom shower had a gross amount of mold (pictures provided) Window shakers in all the rooms worked well thank goodness. They supplied a decent amount of kitchen utensils, glasses and mugs. Oven is electric, cooks much different than gas, but once you figure it out it's good. Furniture is definitely worn out and old. Washer and dryer seem to work well, but you practically have to get on the floor to put in and get laundry out. They provide two levels of peak holes for the entry door, so if you are a smaller person it's good. Vermont is seasonal as well so if you are here in June lots of things are closed or close early. Mostly a skiing town.
