I absolutely loved staying here. Wonderful old timey feel. Friendly staff. Fresh breakfast waiting for you each morning. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. I can't wait to go again!!! One thing...this place was built quite a long time ago and the floors are slanted in places. You get used to it...it's worth it!

I just stayed the weekend at Smuggler's Notch Inn. We loved it!! Upon checking in, the desk person was ok but didn't give enough information about breakfast/towels/restaurant downstairs. We loved the room, it was cozy and warm. (They provided an in room heater). There was a jacuzzi and shower in the bathroom. TV worked. You could hear through the rooms a bit, but we didn't mind. (Quiet hours 10pm-8am). They offered complimentary breakfast that was absolutely fantastic! I recommend the breakfast sandwich and hash brown casserole. You can walk to the Village Tavern, the bar/restaurant next door, through the inn. They have good food and drinks, it's very convenient, especially since you don't have to walk in the cold or drive down the road for a bite to eat. The inside of the inn was historic and cozy, in the living room area they had tea/coffee which I liked. I would definitely stay here again.

Found this lovely inn when planning a trip for the weekend to drop my daughter off at college. The Smuggler's Notch Inn is a great find. First off it is in a beautiful and picturesque setting. On top of that it is charming on the inside with the wooden floors and rooms that are just the right size. The Inn has three options for food attached to it which was really convenient when coming off the road and before/after campus activities. The proprietors (Pat and Lisa) were a delight to work with and even moved around our reservations so that way we could keep our rooms and not have to move during a busy weekend (I admit we booked a little close to our travel time ). When we were delayed on the road they even worked with us to have our check-in package left in a lockbox for our convenience. Which really lowered our stress-level. I will definitely come back here during future visits to the Johnson/Stowe area.

The pool, hot tub, and sauna were welcoming as well. And we pretty much had it all to ourselves due to it being off-season. They provide a free tea and cookie hour from 4:00-5:00, but I would not recommend it. They need to offer organic teas and better cookie choices in our opinion. The staff were so very nice and offered a lot of advice about local businesses. We would certainly stay there again.

We were immediately welcomed by the super friendly and knowledgeable hosts, who gave us a quick call when our room was ready a few hours early. Our room, located in the Mansfield House, was absolutely spectacular. Immaculately clean and impeccably designed, this room proved that the GMI blows away plenty of the more "luxury" hotel experiences that my fiancé and I have paid a pretty penny for over the years. If you enjoy historic charm with modern amenities, this is the hotel for you. The Inn's restaurant, The Whip, is also excellent, and I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the Inn's central location, ample parking, and loyalty program for return guests. Needless to say, we're planning on coming back as soon as we can.

We constantly get bothered on every trip to buy more points and they never take no for an answer. They always tell us it will only take 45 minutes and it ends up taking hours. Completely taking up one of your vacation days with car salesman type jargon. This was the first time that we showed up for a time share talk they asked us to come too come to and we were told they were over booked. This also came after their staff that signed us up for the meeting told us the day before that the recent purchase of points we made in Poconos, Pennsylvania had went bankrupt and was no longer operating. Yet we have been paying for the maintenance fees for that location this whole time. They told us that they would have sent us the information in an Email (we never received a thing about this situation in any email) So I pretty much took it as they did not want to have to talk or deal with us on this situation even though they were the ones who told us about it. Now Smugglers Notch location this is our first visit here. The lady and gentleman in the country store were pretty much the only people in the whole place with a genuine personality and were so pleasant to talk to every time we spoke with them. However, Every time we spoke with the front desk to get anything from coffee to laundry detergent it was always full of excuses. We have always noticed that once we don't buy or purchase more points the staff on hand becomes very off putting and very unapproachable at every Wyndham location. My wife needed extra laundry detergent and the staff member at the front desk told her to buy it from the country store instead of giving her any from the front desk. One staff member did come in on the conversation and gave my wife a couple small packages of laundry detergent. When we would ask for coffee for the room, we were told to buy it from the country store. Any hotel or even motel I've stayed in has never made us pay for any of these things. The room was down stairs. A good size due to other family members who were not able to make it. I've submitted a number of pictures here for what it's worth. Room is pretty worn and needs some modifications. TVs were not smart TVs. There were tap-con screws sticking up out of the ground of the threshold between kitchen and dining area. If we were bare foot and didn't notice it, would have not been good. Kept finding bugs in the beds and couch (pictures provided) yes we are in the woods and in a place located on the bottom of the building I get it. Went ahead and vacuumed the whole place myself with the vacuum they have located in the closet. Main bathroom shower had a gross amount of mold (pictures provided) Window shakers in all the rooms worked well thank goodness. They supplied a decent amount of kitchen utensils, glasses and mugs. Oven is electric, cooks much different than gas, but once you figure it out it's good. Furniture is definitely worn out and old. Washer and dryer seem to work well, but you practically have to get on the floor to put in and get laundry out. They provide two levels of peak holes for the entry door, so if you are a smaller person it's good. Vermont is seasonal as well so if you are here in June lots of things are closed or close early. Mostly a skiing town.

And so I did... in July 2025, some SIXTY years after seeing the Sound of Music. We actually didn't stay here, which seems kind of odd considering what a fan I am. Now that I know how much there is to do in Stowe... and at the lodge itself, perhaps if we come back with plans to stay longer, I would stay here. Overall, the terrain was a little more advanced but had a few short trails for beginners. Several long blue runs and a few groomed black runs in addition to many more difficult mogul black runs. Lots of glades areas if that is your cup of tea. The resort was big enough that you had plenty to explore for a few days and also if you went with a group it wasn't so huge that it was impossible to meet up or find friends if you took an accidental detour. We opted for a package and it was reasonable. We chose to stay at the golf cottages which were perfect for our group, and could get around the resort with their shuttle system. There was a movie theater, bowling alley, climbing wall, mini golf as well as general store, bars and restaurants on site. If you buy a package some of the activities might be included in your price. If you want to eat off site there are a few restaurants about 15 minutes away. The top half of the mountain was all just a tiny powder on top of ice . The ice gets shaved throughout the day to build up the powder that then gets slapped into something akin to moguls throughout the slopes. Talking to people on the lifts made it very clear that the focus of skiing here is on the glades and not the groomers. Unfortunately my lack of experience made it rather tough to enjoy that. It also wasn't until midday on our second day that we finally discovered some more beginner friendly glades. We ended up being able to enjoy the moons and the bushwacker path. The layout of the lodge is also strange. It feels cramped and crowded even though there werent too many people there. All the lifts feel far too slow as well. A wind cover at the least would be highly appreciated considering how long the ride up is. The misc Ramen truck is a highlight. Delicious lunch option. Truely a gift. Would recommend.

Wow. Get ready for some serious skiing. If you are into rough ungroomed and magnificent moguls,…read moredrops, trees, and cliffs you have found the place. You will not confuse this with Vail's well groomed and gentle slopes. This place is serious. Ok, I don't do mougls. I don't do cliffs. And trees are best viewed from a distance if I'm on my skis. But I confess to loving this place. Just WOW. It was my first visit 9Feb26 but it won't be my last. Young at heart and needing a place to show off your creds on the moguls then go here and bypass Stove. The snow here is far superior to Stowe and I think it's because they face north; no ice but lots of hard pack and soft underfoot. I skied top to bottom over three hours on some wonderful groomed steep blues and blacks. I saw the moguls as I roared past. I wish. I cannot. If you can go for it. (C you know who I'm talking to!) It's old school. The lifts are all doubles. There is no high-speed. And the views you get are to be considered worth the ride. Seventeen minutes to the top with a view of Mt. Washington in the distance. Did I say WOW. The base is a bit confusing for the first timer so here's some advice. - the first entrance is the hotel and baby slopes. - drive up the road for lot 3 on the right but don't park yet - turn left and drive up to the lodge and unload your gear - the driver can drive back down to lot 3 and park. - plenty of cubbies in the lodge and places to gear up - there are three main lifts here. get a map. Have fun. I'll be back.

We had a full kitchen, two bedrooms, and two bathrooms. Our bed was very comfortable. As dawn comes early this time of year (full light at 5 a.m.), we had both blackout blinds and drapes on the windows. The place was equipped with an Asko washer and dryer, which were very confusing to use. We never did get the dryer fully figured out. There was a large, jetted tub in our unit that took forever to fill and was noisy in use. The AC unit in our room was also noisy. As we were there during the off-season, the onsite restaurants were closed and wouldn't open for another couple of weeks. Which meant driving to get food. We stopped at a Hannaford grocery store in Burlington for breakfast foods before driving to the resort, but that left lunch and dinner. Of the nearest places to eat, one was closed on Monday and Tuesday, and was only open for brunch on Sunday. For recreation, the pool was open while we were there. It's heated and so was usable on chilly days. Do I recommend this place? The price was reasonable and the accommodations OK. I don't ski, so I can't speak to how the place is during that season. If you need a "home base" for wandering and don't mind the off-season inconveniences, Smugg's is a decent choice.

There was also a note on the thermostat stating that the central air conditioning was not working due to ongoing renovations. The most frustrating part is that we were never informed before our arrival that the air conditioning was unavailable because of renovations. This is something guests deserve to know in advance, especially during the summer. Beyond the air conditioning issues, the hotel is clearly showing its age. Many areas appear worn and in need of maintenance, with few signs that repairs or updates have been made. It no longer reflects the quality you would expect from a resort. Customer service throughout our stay was disappointing. While we were eventually moved to another room, there was little acknowledgment of the inconvenience or effort to make the situation right. Ultimately, our experience was so poor that we decided to leave the resort that same night and book a room at another property rather than continue our stay.
