I have nothing but positive things to say about the northern lights Lodge. It was the best part of our Ski trip to Stowe by far. The owners were so kind and welcoming everybody that works there was very nice and breakfast was the best part of the day. The owner breaks up homemade muffins for breakfast every day, and there are plenty full options, such as scrambled eggs and sausage, yogurt, and granola. And a pack it up so well for you so you can totally eat it on your way up to the mountain. The absolute peak of this entire trip was the hot tub is at the northern lights lodge. Surprisingly it was rarely occupied we barely had to wait except for one time we may be waited 20 minutes for a group to leave because it's a pretty small hot tub and we were four people trying to go together The hot tub is also open from 8 AM to 10 PM great for a pre-post ski session. There is also a sauna and indoor pool and an outdoor pool. The outdoor pool was not open for the winter obviously. The rooms were spacious and cozy. Definitely looking forward to make a trip back. Northern Lights Lodge as follows, from what I understand this building was in a world expo from Quebec Province in the late 1950's or 60's and was dismantled and rebuilt here in Stowe, (pretty cool huh?) property is well maintained, walks were all shoveled and easy to manage. Parking was plentiful. Check in was easy, straight forward, ZERO hassles, service with a smile. Hotel is old school ski lodge, which, is totally awesome by me. This is a get away, let's go back in time when things mattered not just "Cash or Charge". Rooms are very very clean, very comfortable, heat works great and it's pretty cold and windy outside. Yea, I can dig this place. Nice, old school, charm. I will stay here more often. Breakfast and indoor pool available, I'm just here to ski. We stayed here a while ago and absolutely loved the location. It's towards the top of the mountain, so we got to drive all the way up from the small town of Stowe. The walls were quite thin and we could hear people walking around throughout the evening but thankfully no one was too loud. I can imagine it being louder during ski season. Definitely a great location for the winter time and there are great bike trails down the hill for the summer time. Stowe was one of our favourite places on the road trip we took. I really don't know how this place earned positive reviews. Dated, dingy and smelly. Total lack of planning in the building and the bathrooms have mold. We had no intentions of using the pool but I can't imagine anyone wanting to use it with a bridge built over for people to cross and go to their rooms. Very odd setup. Breakfast is okay, they tell you clearly you can't take anything to the room to eat from the buffet, which is fine except anyone with a little child struggling to eat won't get an option to eat in the room. Overall, this is comparable to what 1.5 star hotel would be in terms of quality and upkeep. First impression is not fantastic but the stay there was very enjoyable here's why First of all it's easy to find right on the main road plenty of parking the people there are just awesome they run a great little motel. The room was very clean a bit old but the bed was very comfortable pillows were awesome bathroom is a little small but very clean heating and air-conditioning work great. Small TV in the room but you don't really spend much time in the room when you're in a place like Stow Vermont. Breakfast was awesome homemade cookies pastries sausage and eggs you won't leave they're hungry and it's free with the room. They have both indoor and outdoor pools the indoor pool is pretty cool looking. The outdoor pool is typical for the area. Check in and check out were very easy great place for the price. read more

This review is a difficult one to write. Overall, the hotel is clean and the lady at the front desk was informative and engaging. The pool and hot tub are a plus and the location is centric. TIP: please provide sleeves for your disposable cups or do not provide them at all. The stay would have been a recommend one and still is unless you are unexpectedly injured. I know, who plans to be injured on their vacation?! With time being of the essence we left the hotel, BEFORE, check out and immediately sought medical care in the small town of Stowe. After checking me in to the medical facility my fiance returned to the hotel collected our items and checked out. At check out, he informed the lady at the front desk of what happened. Later, the hotel responded to my review on the third party hotel booking site citing an incorrect injury and I felt they did so in a manner that minimized my injury. Also, I felt as if they should not have exposed my private information on a public site and worst of all did it in an incorrect manner. They also incorrectly responded saying I had checkout an hour later. No I left and my fiance returned to check out and collect our belongings. After being released, I called back and asked the lady if a report was made of my injury and in short words I pretty much got a response of what for. Per an email from the third booking site, I thought they would charge the nightly rate from the card we used at check in however they charged it at the time of booking. When I received a call from Mike to discuss this, I felt his tone was more belittling than informative. I just wanted to know when we were charged. I had booked a month in advanced and didn't check my credit card. It is safe to say I do not feel safe returning and can find similar prices in Stowe during the time of year we visited. I don't mind open dialogue however I do mind feeling belittled. read more

It's basically a motel, but a nice one, with a cordial staff and many of the amenities found at the bigger resorts (outdoor pool, heated indoor pool, hot tub, sauna, game room) at a fraction of the cost. Price includes a hot breakfast, which most hotels got rid of during COVID. No maid service during stay, but we didn't mind. Towels replaced daily upon request. Good location. read more

We LOVE this lodge! Been here twice this year. It's clean and comfortable. Not run commercially, service is super friendly. Breakfast is really good! Love the pool area with a hot tub and sauna. I want to come to Stowe with my husband, will definitely want to stay here if available! Only complaint is there is no counter space in the bathroom due to lack of space.... A couple hooks would do wonders and be a super inexpensive upgrade, helpful for guests. read more

My daughter and I stayed this weekend and it was sooo nice, we enjoyed it so much! the pool, the hot tub and the location was great. the room was perfect for us. Everyone was so nice. The guy who was cleaning the dining room and in there around breakfast time was soo nice. he stayed it was so nice to see a smiling face first thing in the morning most people smile after coffee. It was so quiet and comfortable. I seen some reviews about needing updating, i'm not one of those people We thought it was so cute and homey! I've stayed at the Northern Lights Lodge on three occasions - either with my daughters or solo during ski trips. We've stayed in many other hotels, but now book exclusively here. The owners, Michael and Shannon, are around ensuring all runs smoothly. The lodge is a short drive to the ski area (or you can take the free bus that stops in front of the hotel). Breakfast is quite good, WiFi is excellent and the pool looks inviting (we never used it). The only issue are thin walls between rooms. However, with the fan running we could not hear our neighbors. read more

We stayed her for 5 days in September and we just loved the place. You get clean,cozy rooms with an amazing weel protioned home cooked breakfast with cookies every morning. The rooms come with a fridge and there is a microwave in the breakfast area which you can use. We also really appreciated the fact that they had a filtered water tap, so that we could fill up our water bottles every morning and be set for the day. And everyone working here was really friendly and welcoming. I would definitely recommend staying here and would do so myself when I plan my next trip to Stowe. read more

We recently stayed at the Northern Lights Lodge in Stowe, Vermont to visit the fall leaves in October. Such a warm and cozy place. It has a rustic charm about it. There is a vibrant and beautiful red bush at the entrance to the lodge that sets a nice tone for the fall colors that awaited us as we were about to drive around the area. The owners, Michael and Shannon, are very nice and keep the lodge quite comfortable. They gave us plenty of suggestions of things to see and do, including handing us a map of a three-hour drive to see the most sights. They even pointed us toward the Stowe Ski Gondola to see the leaves from a bird's-eye view. The lodge is in a great location, not far from the town of Stowe. Great place to stay. We stayed one night on our leaf peeping trip around Vermont. Very warm and welcoming atmosphere, bright knotty pine (new looking, not old) and real quilts in our room, even the extra blanket was a quilt. The breakfast was great, they had a fire going in the fireplace, and the common areas of the lodge were decorated for fall. They even had a giant teddy bear in a chair reading a book at a breakfast table and an extra book for another chair as a companion for anyone who was eating breakfast by themselves. Also, everything was extremely clean. Our room, the common areas of the lodge, the indoor pool/hot tub area, and the outside area were all really clean and in good condition. It seems like the innkeepers have a lot of attention to detail in the running of the lodge. I would definitely return. read more

I just read the last review, and I am shocked by her review. I have been staying at this lodge for 5 days, and have found the staff to be friendly and as accommodating as possible for them to be. This is not a 5 star resort at 350.00 to 600.00 a night, it is a small family hotel with very clean rooms and a lot of amenities that other hotels at a higher price point in this town do not offer. I actually did observe a woman whom I guess was this Brenna actually yelling at the host, as I was on my way to get a cup of tea, which by the way coffee and tea is available 24 hours a day here, the only place I have stayed with that amenity other that crappy little coffee makers in the bathroom in hotel rooms, fresh green mountain coffee. I also can attest to the fact that every time I came in from outside the first hallway was fine, then I went through the fire door and yuck major pot smell for 1 room then nothing, so if this woman was in the first room by the fire door, then they are over the wall crazy pot smokers. They must have been smoking non stop in their room it was so bad. I came in once and the hosts had opened doors and windows to empty rooms I suspect to try and air out the hall, and it seemed to work, then a couple of hours later I came back for information, and the pot smell was horrible, I shudder to think what their room was like when they left. Exactly what you would hope for in a Vermont ski lodge. The rooms are modest but clean and very well kept. The indoor pool and hottub are great apres ski. Breakfast was generous even with COVID protocols. Parking is easy, staff is friendly and helpful and it is only a coupe of minutes from the mountain and dozens of restaurants. If you are looking for a super-clean, comfortable place to stay that won't break the bank, look no further than Northern Lights Lodge. I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the room/bathroom and equally impressed with the indoor swimming pool (and hot tub, and sauna) and the outdoor swimming pool. Breakfast was delicious (had the scrambled eggs) and served very promptly with big smiles. It is located at the very top of the Stowe Recreation Path which made it particularly wonderful for me as riding that path was a big part of my vacation plans. They even had one of those nifty water dispensers you only find in airports available with the ice machine - for those of us who really prefer to refill our own containers vs. buying individual servings of bottled water, this was a huge plus. I had the pleasure of interacting with Shannon, one of the proprietors, who could not have been friendlier or more helpful - just delightful. Next time I go to Stowe, Northern Lights will be my number one choice. read more

This is the best place to stay in Stowe! The rooms are super clean and cozy! The breakfast is outstanding! The scones and muffins are my favorite! There are 2 pools and a hot tub! If you're looking for something affordable and great, this is your place. My husband and I stayed in room #45 for 2 nights. The owners are attentive and delighted to chat with. They also have great knowledge about the area, so ask them for recommendations! The location is very convenient to everything around the Stowe area, and it's easy to hop on the highway and head to Burlington for a day trip. There's no shortage of parking and the free morning breakfast is wonderful. The indoor heated pool is a nice bonus, though the hot tub and sauna weren't all that hot. Great place to stay when skiing at Stowe! Don't expect the W Hotel or the Four Seasons. The owners are super friendly and very accomidating. The rooms are basic and clean. Simple decor and has more of an old ski lodge feeling. The indoor, heated pool is great! They are in the middle of updating rooms so ask ahead of time if you will be in a room with a hair dryer or fridge (if these are important to you). Groups: if you want to bring a large group here: DO IT. They were amazing to our 100+ group. You can take over the lounge and bar area! read more

My girlfriend and I just returned from a weekend in Stowe, and we had an exceptional experience at the Northern Lights. For starters, when we arrived the owners had upgraded our room to a double at no extra charge and moved us into the main building (which meant we didn't have to go outside to get to the hot tub or the free breakfast--more on this below) instead of an adjacent building. Not a bad start, right? On top of that, the rates are some of the best in Stowe, the free breakfast was really quite good (try the scones and french toast) and the owners were very helpful in recommending both restaurants in town (try the guacamole at Frida's!) and things to do (go cross country skiing at Von Trapp!). Still not enough? The hot tub is fully functional and therapeutic after a day on the slopes. And you get 10% on any return trips. The only downside is the heaters, which turn on and off during the night. They keep the room at a good temperature, but it can be disruptive when you're trying to sleep. Oh well. Nobody's perfect. Give it a shot! read more

This place is probably the most affordable lodging near Stowe resort. The rooms are pretty basic but very clean, heated (in the winter), and contains all you will need to spend a night after an exhausting day of skiing and snowboarding. They have 2 pools, a sauna, and a hot tub as well! The best part is you get a breakfast! Unlike other places where you have to pay a lot for a decent bed and a breakfast or have a breakfast consisting of boxed donuts from the grocery store, the breakfast in this place is just amazing. Having a variety of amazing breakfast options just makes the stay start right. When I was there they had: Sausage, Scrambled Eggs, Home style Fries/Potato cuts, Blueberry pancakes, 3 flavors of homemade muffins, 2 flavors of homemade scones, cereals, several types of fruit, and several types of toast. I may have missed a few items as well. In terms of drinks, they're offer a lot. Various coffee, tea, milk, apple, orange, cranberry juice. Definitely will come back here next time I'm in the area! read more

Close to main town, far enough to make you feel like you are in the Country. The recreation path starts right near the hotel and goes 5 miles. Don't miss Smuggler's Notch. The rustic decorations and friendly staff immediatly had us at ease. It's extremely close to the mountain so it's convenient. Even on a busy weekend the pool, jacuzzi and sauna were empty except for us and were a welcome and relaxing luxury after a long day of skiing. The pool is heated. Both it and the jacuzzi were very clean and fresh towels are provided. The included breakfast is well-done. There's a large variety of hot food options with juices milk and coffee. We enjoyed having breakfast and then sitting next to the wood-burning fireplace just off the lobby. The place does have some negatives that should be considered. The beds are not comfortable and the pillows are small and pathetic so I would recommend bringing your own. The fit and finish is more in line with a motel so if you're used to the lodge at the base of the mountain you'll turn your nose up. Also, the sound dampening isn't great so if you're a light sleeper people in the hall may bother you. For the price this place is an excellent option. I think we'll be coming back next year! Lastly, they win brownie points for lighting the place almost exclusively with LED bulbs and always having homemade cookies and hot cider available in the lobby. read more

The husband and wife who own of this lodge are so nice and take such obvious care and pride in their lodge. And they should! The rooms are terrific with very cozy swiss chalet feel. Our family was visiting during fall of coronavirus and they have taken great pains to think thru things like how to keep guests safe while providing a delicious breakfast and making checkin easy and fast. This is almost a quintessential Vermont hotel. Decorations bordering on gaudy (there was a christmas tree in the dining room), and a husband and wife (I believe) innkeeper team. It even had old fashioned keys! When is the last time you saw that? I loved the breakfast too. It was awesome! I would have liked more of an option to bring your coffee and breakfast back to your room. I don't like eating my myself in public unless it is at a bar. I feel like everyone is looking at me, and that I am unecaessarily taking up a table that could otherwise seat 4 more people. This really is a great little place. An amazing value. It is not a Ritz Carlton resort. It is a low-frills mountain lodge. That being said, it was very quiet, comfortable, had possibly the best wifi I have ever had a hotel, comfortable beds, thick walls between rooms, free breakfast, indoor pool, etc. I would definitely stay there again if I needed a place in northern Vermont. The biggest feature of all is the very low price. The price to experience/satisfaction ratio is really great. Again: this is a low-frills mountain lodge. Know what you are getting going in and you probably be as happy as we were. I've been more unhappy at the Hampton Inn on many occasions, and paid more per night than this place for the privilege. read more

We stayed here two nights during off-season month during our excursion in NE. It's affordable and offers an out-dated but comfortable room. It really gives you an old-fashioned ski resort feel. Since our room was at the end of hallway very close to the exterior door, it was a bit noisy every time someone came in and out. Complimentary breakfast buffet was excellent (and surprisingly crowded--they must have had a pretty good occupancy rate even during off-season). It's very convenient since it's not too far from the Stowe city center. There are some restaurants near by (within 10 minutes drive). read more

Not if, but rather when I come back to Stowe, VT, I will definitely stay again at Northern Lights Lodge. I arrived with my family a bit late in the night and was warmly welcomed and accommodated by Mike, who patiently waited for our arrival. The lodge had a very homely and warm ambiance. The rooms were cozy and clean. Also, when we arrived there was amazing cookies in the main lobby, but oh man don't get me started on breakfast in the morning. It was prepared fresh and deliciously for a great start to your morning in the charming town of Stowe. Before we left in the morning, Mike provided us with very informative recommendations on greats places to go and things to do. Mike also went out of his way to insure I was able to leave Vermont with a state exclusive souvenir that I was desperately searching for. I couldn't thank him enough for his friendliness and wonderful accommodation. He really cares for his guests and provides incredible hospitality. I will eventually return to the beautiful state of Vermont and you bet I'm staying at Northern Lights Lodge! P.S. They have a pool and a hot tub..... uhh heck yes! read more
