Went to the dealership (the one next town over) for a simple oil change. Within an hour I get text with a video from the dealership recommending $7000 worth of work. I of course declined and told them to just finish the oil change but when I picked up the car, you bet I drove straight to Montclair Motorwerks from there. Ken and his team took a look at the vehicle and while some of the repairs recommended by the dealership were legitimate, others weren't really needed. The honesty was refreshing. Turned out the vehicle did need some extensive work (thanks Dad). The car was ready within a few days and the price (which was still in the four figures to reflect the scope of the work done) was a fraction of what the dealership would have charged. Additionally I was very careless in leaving something extremely valuable in the vehicle. One of the technicians found it and turned it over to Frankie for safe keeping. Anybody with questionable morals could have taken it and I wouldn't have known. When I picked up the car, it was there for me and while I was of course embarrassed, I was grateful. I'm under no impression that BMWs are cheap vehicles to own and maintain. They aren't. But the high degree of trust I gained from my first encounter with Ken, Frankie an their team made Montclair Motorwerks my go-to since then.

UPDATE: 6/27/19 I took my truck to Driveworks in Jersey City and the cost of a new compressor is $280 and I paid $300 for labor and Freon. This is much cheaper than the original $950 I paid for the same services at Van Houten. Be advised that after I posted this poor review, the owner left me a voicemail "to make me an offer." I never returned the call.

The arm on my windshield wiper was bent and when I brought it in today, they straightened it out free of charge. Even after moving away, we would often make the trip back just to have them inspect our car because we knew they would give us honest advice. A while back, a chain oil change shop told us we needed new brake pads. We came here for a second opinion, and they explained that the rust we were seeing was normal and would wear off with regular local driving. They were right. A year later, another shop again tried to sell us brake pads during an oil change. We immediately brought the car here, and after a thorough inspection, they told us the brakes still had about 2,000 miles left. That level of honesty is rare. Instead of recommending unnecessary repairs, they only suggest work that actually needs to be done. Their prices are fair, their workmanship is excellent, and most importantly, they genuinely care about their customers. If you're looking for a trustworthy mechanic, you can bring your car here with confidence. In an industry where it's hard to know who to trust, this shop has consistently proven that honesty still exists：）

For years, my family and I have been harassed by strange women and men in Essex County, NJ. My conclusion: People think I am anti-Italian, which is ridiculous. My parents were/are Italian-American. My mother was lovely and a wonderful parent. Her family was like a Big Hug. Because of sick/crazed women (and men), I have been bullied and harassed with intent for years. I have been called names; women have cited my body to me in a perjorative tone. I have had to file police reports about these strange/sick women harassing me. I have gone to restaurants and other establishment where strangers have gone out of their way to talk about their Italian heritage and/or relatives near me. Great! I love Italian food and Italian culture! Please don't feel compelled to mention Italian food/culture around me to offend me. I love it all. This is what happened as I waited for my husband to pick me up after I dropped off my car. An employee also spelled my name wrong and said something to the effect of, "Of course, that makes sense." And after he got my car model wrong (a co-worker corrected him with the right car model I brought in to get serviced.) It saddens me that I felt so uncomfortable. The team seems knowledgeable and experienced. My husband has volunteered to take my car to Fix N Fuel after my most recent experience with folks.

This shop's negligence put my life in danger…read more I had my car towed to Park Street Automotive with clear symptoms of a critical suspension failure: a violent lurch to the left when braking, a loud rumbling, and a worsening steering wobble. They ignored these critical safety symptoms and diagnosed only a noisy exhaust. When I questioned this, they were dismissive and, after the repair, told me to "take it on the freeway for a spin and see what happens." I took it to another shop for a second opinion instead. They immediately found the real problem: the front control arm had failed and my wheel was literally about to fall off. The issue had nothing to do with the exhaust. A mechanic who fails to perform a basic safety inspection and tells you to "see what happens" with a failing front end is not someone who should ever be trusted with your vehicle or your safety.
