I absolutely love this place for me and the kid. I initially discovered this place because i frequent Mason Mill and the PATH trails. I started with the Adult Beginner Saturday class. It wasn't awkward at all ... being that I never played tennis. Coach Joe is AWESOME. He's funny, full of energy, and treats each one of us like we can be a tennis star even in our later years. I found the Summer Class for the little kids (5 years old) to be reasonable and luckily in my time schedule. Monday's at 4 and Saturday mornings. The coach is so good and he really encourages my daughter. She's 5 so I don't know if she'll be good or not ... but it's definitely great to get outdoors and introduce her and I to something new. We've been here for pickleball class and it's a great time! Coach Emory is fun, funny, and skilled. There are varying levels of classes, starting with Beginner and then Emerging Beginner. The max capacity for the class is 8 people, so you have to make your reservation early - this is easy enough to do on their website. They also offer round robin tournaments and other organized pickleball activities. My only gripe is that it's not easy to reserve a pickleball court if you just feel like playing on your own. Sometimes, when the weather is nice, we feel like going out for some impromptu pickleball and don't feel like competing. Still looking for places in DeKalb where we can easily reserve a court and do our own thing. I believe you can call to check availability and reserve, though. read more

I either have a biased opinion or I'm the perfect person to ask: this is one of the best tennis centers in the city. I've been a captain out of this center off and on since the mid-90s, both in USTA and ALTA. Brenda Shelton had big shoes to fill upon the passing of longtime facility manager Celia Matthews--but Brenda has been fabulous and continues to manage a great team of people. More importantly, though, the courts are *always in great shape and very well maintained. Great for viewing matches, too, with the legendary pyramid shape stadium seating. If you're a fan or a player and haven't checked out DTC yet, you're missing out! Lots of great park space around there, too, for dog walking and such. read more

This has to be the most electrifying and organized tennis center I have encountered. Greeted by smiles from the amazing and personal staff, I feel at home already. I had a tennis lesson there and I benefited a lot and will definitely be back!! And OH did I mention how their adult and junior programs are just something you have to try if you're looking for exercise, competition, or fun! read more

In term's of tennis centers in metro Atlanta, Dekalb TC is far and away my favorite. The clubhouse is perched upon an ascending concrete pyramid thingy, which serves as bleachers for all the courts. There are 20 (I think that's right?) hard courts here, and you can easily see how every single match on those twenty courts is going with a 3 minute walk around the clubhouse. It's the perfect set up for match play (ALTA) and even better for tournament/playoff matches when the spectators actually care. The courts and nets are generally in good condition. My only (very minor) complaint is that it looks like they recently re-painted some lines, leaving some faint white leftover lines, making it difficult to call a ball "in" or "out" at times. Dekalb Tennis Center is also home to my favorite round robin in the city, the DTC Round Robin ( http://www.dekalbtennis.com/ ) which is unaffiliated with the tennis center, but an excellent event that I hope DTC continues to host. If you're interested in the round robins be sure to sign up as soon as you get the e-mail - the events usually fill up in a matter of hours. The people who attend this event usually are in mid-20s to mid-40s, and it's a great way to meet people. In fact, this demographic (on the younger side) seems to be their main clientele. It's a refreshing change for those of us looking for some tennis buddies. Their clubhouse has a great selection of apparel for purchase and while their restrooms aren't squeaky clean and new (like Bitsy Grant's), they are maintained better than most other tennis centers. Because there are so many courts, they have pretty good availability for court time, just be sure to call ahead. Also, there is plenty of parking and you don't have to walk too far to get to your car, which is nice. If you're looking for a "home" tennis center, this one is my favorite. read more

2nd or 3rd time visiting, but 1st review. I've attended adult workshops on a few occasions and found the coaches (Amy, Joe, & Josh) to be insightful and helpful. Agape Academy is located at the Dekalb Tennis Center which is off of Clairmont. There are many courts available for use. My session today went from 10am to 1pm and cost $30. Good mix of talent levels kept it interesting. As it got up to about 80 degrees today, the coaches provided us with Gatorade and snacks which was much appreciated. Originally an ancient Mayan pyramid, Dekalb Tennis Center is one of the best tennis centers in Atlanta because of a few reasons. One, it's shaped like a pyramid so you can get a great view of all the courts and also perform sacrifices to the god of your choice. Two, they allow alcohol, so your men's team can drink beer and the team your mom plays on can get all whacked on Bartles & James wine coolers. Three, they have the best round robin in Atlanta! Under new management and they are making solid improvements to the courts--new nets, new light bulbs for better night play, refreshed bathrooms (paint), repairs to the clubhouse, etc. Damon and Annie are a great change at the front desk and they always have a smile and greeting when you come in. I've worked with 4-5 of the coaching staff thru event nights (St Patty's Day Mixer), cardio tennis, private lessons, team coaching and find their approach to be positive and encouraging. I have been very disappointed with my experience with ever since Agape Academy has taken over. I have been playing my matches at Dekalb for years. Once this season is over I am highly considering finding new courts to use. It can be difficult to reserve a court. You may have to call several times to get a live person to answer the phone. They also have reduced the number of hours of operation. Under the previous management they were open until 10 pm so you had the options of matches between 6-8 or 8-10. Now they close at 9pm and since most people can't get there until 6pm it reduces the number of matches that can be played. When I expressed my concern I was met with no feedback and a shrug. I certainly hope they consider extending the hours and become more reliable when it comes to scheduling matches otherwise I will start playing my matches at Blackburn or Sandy Springs. read more

Five stars for me! I really enjoy playing with Agape. I started playing again after a few months off and really enjoy the cardio sessions. Doubles drills are also great and have given me more confidence. The thing I like most is the coaches' strong positive energy that makes it challenging and fun at the same time. Go for it! read more

I would say that with the new management Agape Tennis Academy, the management is MUCH BETTER, since my experience is that the old management was very unfriendly and hard to get on the phone. The new management is just out of this world nice - which by the way is their philosophy: To care and nurture and help tennis players learn and grow. I would say it is harder to find a better tennis facility in Atlanta.
