The older Asian man said he can shorten my brand new Torrid Jeans I just purchased. I put 1 pair on, with my sandals on, he folded the bottom of the pant leg and asked if the front was OK. I kept looking to the side and he kept saying look forward. So he put a safety pin on the side of the pant and then did 2 chalk marks on the back of the jeans. He did not ask me put the other pair of jeans on. He said 1 hour and they will be done. I asked how much before I put my name and phone number on the order form. He did not respond. We came back, they were done. I did not inspect the jeans, I assumed they would be fine. I WAS WRONG...THEY ARE RUINED!!! Not only did he cut the pant legs, he did a sloppy job sewing the cut pieces back on and could not match the side seams. And the pants are now TOO SHORT! If I could have, I would have done it myself, but jeans are harder to work through on a standard sewing machine. He charged me $30 for each pant. While he charged a man, that was also in the store, $20 for 1 pair of pants. I spent $135 for jeans that I cannot wear. **** Warning**** This is my expensive Nordstrom dress that I took to Del Amo Taylors. It came highly recommended by Glitzy, a store that sells formal dresses, and where I purchased another cheaper dress. Unfortunately, Tony, the tailor, does not speak good English and is quite elderly. Despite this, he was kind, and I paid $200 upfront. Regrettably, the alterations turned out very poorly, and now I need to find another tailor as the wedding is on Saturday. He offered for me to come back, but I don't trust them not to further damage the dress. Do yourself a favor and take your dress somewhere else! read more

This business ruined my daughter's experience of her senior prom. They do not post pricing- so beware. They charged me $130 to take off a uniform amount of material from the base of the dress (hem). It was a three layered dress... two tulle top layers. They cut the bottom of the dress completely off instead of doing the alteration we described: "keep the same shape of the dress but just remove the same amount of material all the way around. We don't want it to be straight across the bottom. We want to keep the train , but it needs to be shorter." My daughter is only five feet tall. They measured her using pins and a line dusting type of gadget to get a straight line. They did this all the way around. This alerted me to the fact that they likely did not understand my instruction. So I repeated myself. They nodded and said yes yes we understand. It was an older gentleman and a somewhat younger gentleman. When we arrived (48-72 hours later) for pick up...My husband called me and said my daughter was crying and he needed me to come up to the store. I planned to just console her and fully expected the owners to try to refund us our money or give a discount. My daughter was outside the store and when I entered and asked what happened, they proceeded to tell me that they did what I had asked them to do. They both said that I told them to cut it across the bottom. I became angry at that point. My daughter is crying. This is her prom. This was a simple hem (for a tailor, not for me). We are clearly unhappy and the first thing they want to say is that this is what I asked for. Why would I come into the store upset if this is what I asked for? This isn't to be ugly, (but it is a contributing factor) but they do not speak clear English and do not perhaps understand what you are saying; however, they will nod and say they understand. If I knew they did not understand I would have spent even more than the thirty minutes we spent initially telling them what we wanted. I could have drawn a picture. But they kept nodding and saying yes yes we understand. They refunded nothing. They did not apologize. They let us leave the store with a dress that is not what we bought or expected. And the prom is tomorrow. I am out $500 and my daughter is crying. So, no, I DO NOT RECOMMEND visiting this place of "business." And as an aside: why does our business licensing allow for places to NOT post their pricing? To me, this is one of the most important and basic consumer protective practices and our business licensing procedures do ZERO nothing to protect us. Also, perhaps it is worth posting the owners first and second languages so that miscommunications aren't so devastating. Who knows. read more

We bought a suit at Macys and they recommended getting the pants hemmed here. I wish I had read the previous yelp reviews and not simply trusted Macys. Tony recommended several alterations to the jacket as well as hemming and narrowing the pants. We trusted him, but the jacket did not turn out well. The back of the neck opened up too wide exposing too much of the shirt collar. After paying $190 for the jacket and pants alterations, we were so displeased with the jacket neck, we felt the jacket was unwearable. We took it to another tailor who said there was no way to fix it as the material was cut away. The 2 men that work there speak very poor english, so it is hard to communicate and felt it was useless to try to negotiate any type of refund. To top it off, they took our Macys garment bag claiming we never left it there. read more

Because of the reviews on this yelp listing, I went today to have pants altered that I needed done ASAP. While a bit hard to get to (use the mall kiosk to tell you where to go), the place was awesome. It seemed like a one-lady show. There wasn't a single person in there other than me-- I tried them on and returned 15 MINUTES later to have them done... as if I had bought them that way. I've been coming to this place for years, and I'm always impressed with her work. She works wonders with her hands/sewing machine. Yes it is a one-woman show so if she's busy, it might take a little longer, but I personally never had to wait more than a day for my order. I've got jeans hemmed here and you cant tell the difference between the original hem and the new one. She's patched up ripped jeans and you would never have believed there was a rip in the first place. She has all kinds of colors/washes/fades for jean fabrics and tries her best to match the patch with the color of your jeans. Her prices are very reasonable and competitive with other high quality tailoring shops. A friend of mine referred me to del amo. She said that Ms.Bu did wonders on the dress she needed Taylored. I was a bit skeptical looking at the reviews, but I decided to give a try. Afterall, I am looking for quality work and not a deep conversation about the meaning of life. To my surprise, Del Amo did wonders. One of my cocktail dress that I needed to wear to a company party won't zip up. Ms.Bu was able to release excessive fabric sowed inside the dress to give me more waist line. She then sowed it back up, and now the dress fits perfect, voila. Her sowing work was flawless. I was a happy camper! I will definitely be coming back here. read more

I had been here yesterday and met Ms Boo and approached her to get my gown altered ,she was not co operative and lil rude and was not responsding to my requirements and I was in lil urgency and wanted my dress within 5 days and she started acting like she was too busy and she can't promise to give it on the day I asked for and the amount she was about to charge for alterations oh My god ...!! I don't understand why some people think she is mean. The woman that runs this place is the sweetest little ajuma (that's korean, google it). She may not be super-smiley and yes she is very direct, but in no way is she rude. She does good work, and when I told her I needed a suit tailored in 2 days she gasped and asked me "what happened?" with the same look of a mother questioning her kids. hahah I love it! She had it ready when I needed, and didn't charge extra for the rush work, she didn't recognize me and therefore knew I was a first time customer. Her prices are reasonable but not amazing. I dropped off two pairs of jeans and a dress shirt for alteration. This time I tried to give her as much time as she needed to get the job done, and she still asked me when I wanted to pick them up! Long story short, $10 per pair of jeans, $25 for the alterations to my dress shirt. I will follow up on how they come out! read more

RIPOFF ALERT!! I wanted to get about 3 inches of the pouch part of 2 hoodies hemmed because they were seperating from the main part of the hoodie. Quoted $10 each! GTFO of here with those prices! I've been coming here for almost two years now, and I have never had a bad experience. I found the store by using Yelp, and of course the reviews led me to the best place. I recently went in and found out the store had moved, although instead of wasting my time and getting frustrated by walking around aimlessly, I simply asked at the customer service desk where the store had moved to. It was quite a simple thing to do and I found the store with no problem. Boo is very friendly, and to be honest, does her best to meet the needs of her customers, even if the demands are over the top. I've been there when someone brought in four dresses to be altered by the next day... Boo was honest and said it would be difficult, although said it would be done. I see nothing wrong with her telling a customer that their needs may be too much, especially when they do not think of her needs and other responsibilities. I will continue to bring my business here and recommend the store to others. read more

I read a few of the comments here and decided to visit Boo with no real expectations, since the reviews were mixed. First, I was pleasantly surprised by the size and cleanliness of the shop, located on the first floor by Macy's mens section. Second, she was very professional and I found her to be quite delightful. And third, she is direct; but she is very friendly and quite funny. If you can get past her being direct and just be your friendly self, you will find that she is really nice. I took in four items for alterations; 2 skirts, 1 suit jacket and 1 rain coat. What I found refreshing about Boo is that I didn't have to tell her what and where I thought the alterations were needed. She sized me up, and she began to pull here and there while quickly pinning. When she was finished pinning, I was completely satisfied with how the items would look once she finished altering them. She asked me if I liked how each item looked afterward and when I needed the items. I told her the latest is Sat. She wasn't pleased, but then commented that she would try to have them by then, but she could not promise. I said fair enough. Today (1/28/12) I went to collect my clothing from Boo. Wow! I looked at the seams, the thread used and tried everything on. The clothes look so much better and they looked like I purchased them that way. I could not tell that she had altered them in any way other than the way the clothes looked on me now. She has earned my repeat business! Her prices are well...I guess accurate for the area... She didn't charge any more than the cleaners seamstress I used by my house last year. I'm however much more pleased with Boo's work! Boo has earned my repeat business! If you have nice clothes, don't hesitate to take them to Boo! You will not be disappointed!! read more

Needed a dress altered. It was big on me on my waist and too long, cost $110 to alter and was done in 8 days. In fairness she did ask me when I needed it by and she accommodated. It looks good and like it's never been touched, if you look closely at the zipper you can tell something but again the dress was like two sizes big so This placed worked out great. I would recommend because they are open late until 9! Just park by Joann's entrance at del amo mall. read more

Because of the previous reviews, I knew that I could bring my suit in last minute and it would be done... no problems! And I had just that experience. I brought my suit in on Thursday morning around 10am and it was ready for me by Friday 7pm. I was wearing the suit on Saturday for my friend's wedding. Honestly, I don't know why South B. had such a bad experience and I'm not going to counter that. That's her experience and I'm gonna have to respect that. I, on the other hand, had a fun exchange with the lady there. Her name is Boo, a Korean lady, and she was very friendly and did an excellent job. PEOPLE BEWARE! CONS: This place is over priced ($20 for a one hem on a short sleeve shirt, $10 to re-velcro two pockets, $30 to shorten a long sleeve shirt), rude (which I can handle, but its worth mentioning for the people who come here to see the reviews), and they refused me an entitled refund. I went in, dropped off my articles of clothing to be altered and walked out. Literally 5 minutes later I called and canceled the $20 hem job bec. I found a place that will do it for $8. When I went in to pick up my clothing her excuse for not giving me a refund was that the work on the other pieces took her longer than expected so she wanted to charge me for that. There is a strong language barrier which equates to misunderstandings. I would never go back to this place for any further work to be done on my clothing and I do not recommend. I came in with a smile because I was nervous from what some reviews had said about her but I was desperate to get my slacks hemmed. I asked if she can do a rush on my slacks. She did a rush job on my slacks reasonable price for hemming within an hour. My son was running around causing a crazy mess! I was embarrassed but she smiled and loved my son. Took my bridesmaid dress here to be taken in after I lost some weight - they did a terrific job and it looked great at the wedding!

I was taken in. I wanted to show my college-age daughter how to get a suit tailored. When we arrived at Best Tailor with two suits, I showed him that both needed shortened arm cuffs and pants cuffs. Unfortunately, the pants to one suit had fallen off the hanger on the stairs of my apartment and I had to return home to find them. I immediately returned to Best Tailor, to find that the tailor had pinned adjustments already. He claimed that he would tailor the two suits for $306. I was shocked. I said that I couldn't afford that. He replied that my daughter needed other nips and tucks, at a price of $35 each nip and each tuck... and it added up to a total of $153 /suit! Having bought both suits at Goodwill for a total of $30, I was shocked! My daughter told me that she wanted him to fix her suit... so I agreed to have him tailor one suit. We agreed to pick up the work a week later. Before picking up the suit as scheduled, I phoned to make sure the suit was ready. The tailor said to come the day after the day we had agreed upon. When we arrived, I asked my 18 year-old daughter to try on the suit. She looked like a little old Korean lady with pant legs dragging an inch on the floor. We took the suit and left. My daughter did learn about tailoring: Never go to a tailor. Find a suit that fits and looks good; and adjust the hems yourself! Don't pay 7.5 times as much for the tailoring as you paid for the suit! read more

I have been going to Bu's shop for years, she use to have other employees working for her, but I guess she 's running the show now by herself. She has been located in various locations throughout the Mall for many years, If you are looking to have a friend then go somewhere else for your alterations/hemming; as Bu is not open for business to be your friend she's a hard working strong spoken Korean lady. She means business, tell her what you want on your repairs(that's why you went there for right? to conduct business) and she will snap to it; She alterates/hems in quality work. If you don't want quality work and you are frowning because she was abrupt to you. Then yes, please go somewhere else. She is a 5 star quality shop. read more

This woman does fantastic work, and you don't need to explain anything, she just goes to work pinning and does her magic. I've been going to her for 5 years now and have had suits and dresses done, not just hems, either. I am thin, so she has to take in the waistline, hips, sometimes requiring her to re-do the zipper and armpit area which are not easy to do. However...big however...her prices are not listed and they seem to have increased A LOT over the last year. Last year, I took in 5 dresses at once. The entire job for all 5 cost $120. I recently took in 4 dresses that needed similar work done and it cost me $198...and it has taken twice as long. She called me to tell me my dresses weren't ready and it costs twice as much. YIKES! I would've given her 5 stars but that price is ridiculous. She charged me $45 for one seam. My mom is a seamstress/tailor so I grew up around fabrics, sewing, clothing...I realize Del Amo tailor is not a magician but $200 was not what I had expected. I will pay it because I don't trust anyone else and have even had other so-called tailors tell me they can't do what I am asking and Del Amo can. My mom lives in another state or I'd have her do it for free but in lieu of that I will keep taking my clothes to Del Amo (but I may address the price). You will not be disappointed by the work and she is NOT rude. It was her lack of speaking that comforted me the first time I went there...I knew she knew what she was doing. She did a decent job on the items I brought her, but she has zero customer service skills--seriously, zero. I am a shy person and I felt intimidated by her. She looks very strict and grumpy, she doesn't greet you, and she acted annoyed when I told her I wanted to try the clothes on to show her what I wanted (she just wanted me to explain it to her and leave them with her without having me try them on!). I had to insist, which is hard for me because I'm not naturally someone who is super confident and firm. She charged me sooooo much money but she assured me that it's guaranteed to be what I want. I cringed as I handed over my credit card. When I went to pick up my clothes a week later, she handed them to me all in a Forever 21 bag (usually other places I go have them all hung up on hangers so they don't get wrinkled) and said she couldn't do one of the things she promised to do, but she didn't offer me a refund for the money I paid. She then said, "Okay," and handed me the bag, expecting me to leave. I asked her if I could try the clothes on and she again acted annoyed. After trying the clothes on, I was satisfied, but there were certain things that could have been done better. I came out of the dressing room but she had disappeared into the back. I thought about asking her to fix the things that were bothering me and asking for a refund for what she couldn't do, but I got such a bad vibe from her and I felt so uncomfortable in there that I just walked out. I guess if you're a very bold and outspoken person who is not bothered by lack of customer service and who isn't afraid to really push for what you want, you won't mind coming here. But for people like me who like good customer service and a willingness to give the customer what they want, this place is not a good fit. I won't be going back. read more

ok.. ive been going to "OMA" (korean word for mother) for years! ok ive been working in fashion for as long as i can remember.... and ive been taking every single pant and jean there to get altered for atleast 8 years now... del amo tailors is literally a small family owned tailor located in a wing of del amo fashion center. im a huge denim collector and all my vintage levis and expensive stuff like gucci suit pants and dior jeans have all been altered by Del Amo Tailors.... the work here is A+ every time... and i dont just get a straight hem.. ive had jeans reconstructed entirely! of course that stuff isnt cheap, but the work is a+ and looks factory..... some of the work is so good.. when i wear some of my rare-er custom denim i get other people complimenting me and asking me which style they are..... i have nothing but good things to say about Del Amo Tailors... actually its funny i found this review because i quickly needed the number to call and make a change to some pants im having "customized" right now ( some paper denim and cloth jeans) and thought to myself what the heck.. im already logged in... so why not... lets leave a review for "OMA" read more
