They seated us outside next to the fireplace. . It was a perfect evening for it. My hubby ordered Fettuccini Alfredo with their signature bread. Of course he added spinach and chicken. The pasta was amazing and the sauce ... out of this world delicious and the perfect consistency. (I specialize in this dish with my catering business, so I'm really picky about Alfredos!) I ordered a Calzone... it was melt in your mouth delicious. Filled with meats and cheeses , the calzone pocket wasn't thick and breast but just enough so that it didn't take over the amazing flavors but it was equally delicious. As I said above, we had leftovers for breakfast the next day and we planned to go back for a pizza to go, but we had to rush home. We will be driving there one day soon for a pizza that we can bake at home. (The owner told us he would par bake it for us so we can finish it at home and have fresh pizza in 8-10 minutes when we got home which is about an hour away. So we appreciate that!) We were in town for our youngest son's Make-A-Wish trip to Legoland. On our last evening, we decided to look up to see if there was a traditional Neapolitan pizzeria in the area. We found Del Lusso Pizza, and it was probably one of the most memorable dinner experiences of our lives. If I could give this pizzeria 10 stars, I would! I was in town for a few days to watch my friend's doggie when she & her hubs were out of town. Before they left, they told me about a couple of restaurants that had good food and were dog friendly. Top of her list was Del Lusso, & after coming here I see why! The location has super easy parking, and the outside patio has the perfect amount of shade, sun, and breezes. True to what my friends told me, my friendly server brought out a doggie water bowl with my waters. So nice! After another friend joined me for lunch, we ordered a few things & then fell into the loveliest conversation with Walter - the restaurant owner. He was warm & funny & we shared food stories & talked all about the area and the restaurant. You can tell he takes a lot of pride in creating their food when he talks - San Marzanos & pizza flour from Italy! But you really can tell when you TASTE the food. Meatballs - soooo good, like grandma makes! Bread w/herb dipping sauce - I could literally just eat the dipping sauce w/a spoon! Pizzas - you can put anything on this dough and it would be amazing. We tried 2 different pizzas (Salsciotta w/house made sausage was omg) & they both made us want to order more to take away and eat later!! Chicken Milanese - a big, crispy delicious piece of breaded chicken w/fresh parmesan & lemony arugula. So good! This is the best Italian food I have had in a long time. One of the best Italian meals I have had! The ambiance is amazing, the outdoor seating has an amazing fire pit and the neighboring restaurants provide amble options for everyone. We got the flatbread with garlic dipping sauce, the Mediterranean salad, the pasta bolognese, lemon garlic pasta and the breaded chicken fettuccine Alfredo. I can't even pick my favorite item because everything was delicious and amazing in their own way. Lovely decor and the food looked appealing but it missed the mark. Because the food was edible giving a 3 vs 2 stars. However, it was cold. :( Background music was some kind of technopop. There's a TV above the bar on the left near the door and one in the far corner of the restaurant near the garage door. There are about 9 seats at the counter. Large outdoor seating with a fireplace for those perfect San Diego days. Stopped by for lunch today, arrived at about 11:48 am. The restaurant was empty except for 5 people and about 6 employees. We were seated immediately at the last table next to the pizza oven. This was the perfect spot for people-watching. I could see the entire restaurant, the outside seating area, Eureka's outside seating, the giant pizza oven, and part of the kitchen. Seats were comfortable. I had the booth while my son sat in the chair. But the table was dirty. It looked clean but hadn't been wiped down. When I put my phone on the table it picked up the pizza crust residue. I used the napkins the server brought with my son's coffee to wipe off the table. We ordered a Spinach and Ricotta white pizza, a Sausage and Mushroom red pizza and a house brewed coffee. My son enjoyed his coffee and his pizza. But said his coffee was cold. I tried a taste of his and enjoyed the texture and spice of the sausage. You could taste the fennel and it seemed freshly made. But felt the crust was too floppy. But my Spinach and Ricotta pizza was a disappointment. Not only was the pizza undercooked, but it was also cold. I didn't see or taste any garlic or parmesan. The ricotta tasted as if it came straight from the fridge. And the spinach :( Popeye would not be happy. The spinach was cold and tasted like it was frozen. The crust was floppy, limp, not what anyone wants from a pizza. This can easily be fixed with adjusting the pizza oven temperature. I ended up bringing the rest of the pizza home. Our server was a little unattentive. As mentioned there were only a few people in the restaurant. The server for the couple next to us visited their table at least 6 times while we were there, making sure their food was okay, etc. He even went as far as explaining how the wireless payment system worked. Ours seemed apathetic. She came by once to refill our water glasses before our food arrived and after it did, came near our table to ask if our food was okay. But I finished my water during my meal and my glass wasn't refilled. When it came time to pay, she put the wireless payment on the table and left. Our hostess did a great job of explaining her favorites and we went for those immediately - we ordered the mediterranean salad, the funghi pizza and the galluchi. And we washes it down with a mexican coke. While waiting for our order the owner Walter came by and introduced himself. Great story behind the business and we were impressed with him and the business. Top Shelf indeed. The food was on point - salad was super light and the feta and capers were really good. The funghi pizza was really tasty and the garlic came thru very nicely. The galluchi didnt disappoint and was very moist and chewy. My wallet feels like I ordered the entire menu, but I ordered a family style chicken parmigiana and a L' Americano pizza with the hot honey on the side. If I knew how the pizza changed flavor with the hot honey, I would have had it made with the honey on top. It was really good. My only issue is that for $40 they only gave me 2 pieces of chicken. It was really good chicken but my family was still hungry, so I'm glad I bought the pizza too. But for $70, a small pizza, 2 pieces of chicken, and spaghetti seems like a lot but we are on vacation, and it was good so I would definitely go back. read more

A local gem with lovely indoor/outdoor ambiance and most important, yummy pizza! The L'Americano pizza was a standout- I was a bit hesitant about spicy honey over pepperoni pizza- but since I love each of those ingredients separately, why not make them a combo? Instead of tasting an obvious honey flavor, it is actually quite subtle and rounds out/balances the saltiness of the pepperoni, rich creaminess of Fior di Latte mozzarella and the best part, highlights the spiciness. Addicting! A note for those hardcore Napoli pizza purists- this is not the high hydration dough with big air pockets, where you basically have to eat with utensils otherwise it'd fall apart (which when we were in Italy we loved but I could see practicality-wise how that kind of dough wouldn't work as easily here). Our Spaghetti all Francisco was pretty bland but the poutine was yummy. I heard penne and meatballs at our table was not that great either. They do not have cocktails, just canned alcohol (beer, cider, mojito) so I wish there had actual mixed drinks. Great place! Went there on Memorial Day and was seated quickly. Got the option to sit inside, outside, next to the fire, under a heat lamp, was very costumer centric. We've been coming to Del Lusso as a family (2 kids- 10/12) pretty much since they opened, about 4 years ago. We most recently visited with my parents who were in town, late on a Friday night and Walter and the staff were so welcoming and quick to set us up with a table for 6 for my tired parents. Over the years, the kids have enjoyed the surrounding grassy area, along with other kids which meant my husband and I could enjoy a nice glass of red and quiet conversation by the outdoor fire pit. Each of us have our favorite dishes some of which include; the poutine with pulled pork, meatballs, and Caprese salad as starters, the simple yet delicious Margherita pizza, the Blanco pizza (real truffle oil on top) and of course the Nutella pizza for desert is a must!! Both the flour AND the tomatoes used in their dishes are imported from Italy. Del Lusso has long been a favorite of ours and feels like home with Walter and his wonderful staff every time we visit! The owner Walter came table side as he learned it was our first time (table of 6 all first timers) so kind and made us feel like we were in his home! Delicious Neopolitan style pizzas and really lovely service. Ambiance is clean and modern with a generous amount of heated outdoor seating. Very kid friendly with 4 different options on the kids menu. After a very, very, very long drive from NorCal with two hungry little kids and an issue at our hotel, I was exhausted and stressed out. But sitting on the patio next to the fire pit, the anxiety from the day seemed to melt away, especially with how pleasant and cheery the staff was. It was such a nice experience that I brought friends back the next night. The restaurant opens up fully into the patio, so whether we sat inside or outside, we still got lots of fresh air and circulation. I liked how the large salt crystals in the Italian salad gave the lettuce more flavor and texture. The pizzas were saucy, and the Fior di Latte gave the pizzas a light, fresh taste. The calzones were doughy, but they were also well stuffed. The breading did not at all feel like filler. Pizza -- check. Healthy foods -- check. Fresh air -- check. The food was good. The bread we had before our main dishes was really soft and good. The pie we had was interesting, the toppings sounded really good but once we ate it, it felt like it was missing something. Kinda the same thing with the pasta as well. The ambiance there was nice, I love that part of town. Very away from everything in an area that you can have nice dates at. The fire pit was very a nice touch.
