My review is for the Bread Pudding (BP). I do not like BP but this place changed my mind. Excellent! The flavor is so good. It is not to wet and not to dry. Perfect! My brother brought me here and I plan to go back when I come home this year. They have a secret ingredient, not sure what it is but I want to say whisky..... This is a very casual, locals pizza joint with upscale, delicious food. You would never know how upscale the food is from first glance and if you pass on by, well, that is your big loss. The fried olives appetizer was fine, and I probably would look otherwise next time, but the stars of the show were the absolutely gorgeous Roosevelt salad and the pizza. Sometimes it's the little touches that count the most. The Roosevelt salad divides the three types of lettuces (radicchio , endive, arugula) so it looks kind of like the Italian flag and the lemon vinaigrette was very nice. It's a very good salad and appears to be a popular one for good reason. The small size is extremely generous and plenty for two to share. The Village Pizza comes with pesto, dried tomatoes, artichoke hearts, and chicken. The crust was very thin and crunchy and the flavors were very nice. We ate the entire thing. It comes with a small plate that divides the oregano, freshly-shaved Parmesan cheese, and red pepper flakes. It's those little touches, don't you know. My Negroni was well made and, don't ask me why, but the margaritas seem to be popular here, or at least they were during our visit. Bless this restaurant for having their own dedicated parking out back. Just drive down the alley and turn in. Otherwise, good luck with street parking. One server was working the entire restaurant (two patios and the inside room) and she kicked ass. But come on. Get this gal a little help. This restaurant (and very small bar) punches way above its weight. I would happily return to try more of the menu. Prices for this quality were also very reasonable. This place is not a secret. From bad service to low quality food, our experience was more than poor. The girl with the tattoos was rude when we asked questions about the menu, and was very slow to even bring us water. Wow, what a great place! Great food with a "c'mon in" neighborhood vibe is increasingly harder to find, but l think Roosevelt Pizza delivers. I'd say it's one of the few "hidden" gems left in Carlsbad Village. Come here for a selection of pizzas, sandwiches and a handful of classic Italian dishes. The staff is friendly, helpful and I fully enjoy my experience each time I visit. As far as food, I recommend the Marinated Beets, Roosevelt Salad, Carlsbad Pizza (no cheese, ) and Hen of the Wood Mushroom Gnocchi. I also appreciate the fact that their (somewhat limited) wine list is filled out with Italian wines. Came here after a soccer game in the area. First of all, the prices are astronomically high for the portion size of the food. My wife ordered fettuccine with red sauce and chicken (did not offer Alfredo sauce and to add chicken was 5$ extra). That dish came first on a giant plate with small amount of food in the middle. This was a 22$ pasta for my daughter after her soccer game and she was still hungry after. It then took almost 30 minutes for the other two dishes to come out after she was done eating. We also ordered a gluten free pizza and a calzone. The gluten free pizza was as thin as a piece of paper and was completely burned to a crisp on the bottom. Some parts were inedible. Again, I had to pay 5$ extra to get a gluten free pizza that was already 18$ (the gluten free crust was the only thing that was not made in house from what they said and somehow it was still 5$ extra). The calzone was average but at least a good portion. We all left hungry and disappointed after spending 70$ on 3 items. For a nicer appearing establishment the staff was dressed unprofessionally and provided no updates why our other dishes were taking so long. Hidden behind another pizza joint, I suggested we eat here instead. I was honestly thinking they would have pizza by the slice, but their way of competing against the many other pizza choices around the village is different. They offer a menu more than just pizza, including pasta, salad, veggie appetizers, and wine. Their pizza is practically a thin crust until you get to the end. It was amazing how perfect the crust was. It wasn't floppy anywhere and had a good chew. It was wonderful to dip into the leftover sauce from the stuffed shells, which was also great on its own. The pronounced lemon in the filling was awesome; I actually liked that it wasn't just a hint of lemon. The ambiance is intimate, but it's nice where we sat in their outdoor area. The service was OK. We weren't greeted when we stepped inside or as we walked up. The server didn't present our food by name, but rather placed it on the table. I don't think they even said, "enjoy". I was a takeout customer always enjoying the gluten free pizza and amazing beet salad dish until recently. Dined here for a post memorial service meal as a group of 10. I have so much appreciation for how the owner helped me set this up and make good menu choices while I was dealing with my grief from a tragic loss. She gave me confidence that they would handle it all and make it special and that gave me so much comfort. We ordered pizzas, beet salads, house made potato chips (avail Wed only I believe) meatballs, olives & wine. Tracy helped navigate the gluten free, dairy and vegan issues too. The food was great and all enjoyed it. We sat outside and were provided a nice area to feel like we had some space from other diners. We went on a Friday night around 6pm. While there were certainly people there it wasn't supper packed and we were able to walking right in and sit down. We sat outside and since it was a little chilly out they were able to turn on their outdoor heaters for us. Every one was super nice and helpful! We got 5 different pizzas, as we were a larger group. All pizzas are about 12" pizzas, something you could certainly eat by yourself if you are a big eater but most of us ate about half. It was also great to trade slices with each other and try the different flavors. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures and I don't remember what everyone got. But of the 5 pizzas, each were different and delicious. Everyone loved what they ordered and left with full bellies and smiles. We also ordered their wings. They were pretty standard, nothing special but well cooked. I think if they were able to throw in different flavors in there and get a little more creative with it, rather than franks red hot, the wings would be much better and probably a more popular menu item. We also got some drinks. I got the cab, it was pretty standard and unfortunately for them I had been at the winery down the street prior so I went from drinking good quality red wine to something standard. So I'm not going to judge too hard on it. The other drinks had some good comments from the others. So it's definitely worth trying whatever drink catches your fancy! read more

In our quest for really good pizza wherever we travel, we landed at Roosevelt Pizzeria in Carlsbad and were rewarded really good pizza! Before playoffs, we had a team bonding dinner here at Roosevelt. The owner of the restaurant (Tracy) is very knowledgeable when it comes to her food and what is in it. We told her we were vegan and she immediately told me that the pizza dough does not contain eggs or dairy. Here is what we ordered: Roasted Cauliflower - vegan as is. Saw this place on yelp so I figured I give it a try. Nice small place.and friendly employees. Got there and found out that they only have one size Pizza. After looking at another tables Pizza we realized that there 12" Pizza might be too small so we ordered (2) 22" pizzas. Every Pizza on there menu was a speciality type Pizza but all we wanted was sausage pepperoni and onions and sausage pepperoni and red peppers on the second. We ordered A soft drink and a pint of beer for drinks. The pizza Itself was a fairly good pizza. A very thin crest with very little cheese on it but it was just ok. The problem I had was the bill. $69 for two average pizzas a soda and a $9.00 pint of beer. When I questioned the bill to my waiter he said that the reason why your bill is that high is because you ordered a build your own Pizza and ordered a $9.00 beer. I'm sorry but it was a nice place but I could have gotten a better quality Pizza and a good beer for way less than what I spent at this place. After seeing these reviews, we decided to try this place with my family last Friday night and it was a huge mistake. My daughter's margarita pizza was upcharged to death for being gluten free and adding chicken making the total for it close to $30 for pizza made for one. They charged extra for ranch too. Please see the photo of it. There was literally 4 pieces of tiny dry chicken cubes added and barely any toppings. Does that look good to anyone? Every pizza was flavorless the potato one barely had any potato there was only shaved slices on it. I had to ask for salt which isn't on the table, to make it edible. I also had the caprese salad which was ok but had no flavor in the tomatoes at all so I have my doubts that they used heirloom tomatoes, as they claimed. I grow tomatoes so I know what I'm talking about. We were hungry so we ate the salad and a piece of pizza but took home the rest. In general I felt like it's very overpriced for what we got. I spent over $207 for 6 people. I'll always be happy to pay for good food but this wasn't. The only good thing was the shrimp pasta special that my sister ordered but at $29, it better be. The grand total was way over $300 and the staff kind of make a big deal when we wanted to split the check . They said they had to ask a manager. So we only did it 2 ways. Which is fine I get it. The service was ok but I could tell they just wanted to go home and we felt rushed. We were there from around 6 to 7:30 so it wasn't super late yet. For the super casual, depressing dark hole in the wall atmosphere, bad food and ok service I won't be coming back. Honestly I'd rather go to Urban, Blaze or even Olive Garden, where the food is always great and thwstaff is cheerful and welcoming. I'm from the LA area and found myself in Carlsbad for the afternoon/evening. I can definitely say I'm so sad I chose not to eat dinner here! Everything looked delicious and amazing, and the smell of this place is out of this world! Chef makes everything from scratch. Chose to indulge with the creme brule and a cold pint.
