My family and I came from out of town to visit for a few days and found this gem of a spot. Food 10/10 We ordered the bbq chicken pizza, buffalo wings, and the pepperoni kids pizza. Everything was great! The bbq chicken was flavorful and had a great balance of bbq sauce and chicken. The crust was nice and crunchy on the outside yet soft and chewy on the inside. The size is perfect for a party of 2-3! The kids pizza was a perfect size for my toddler who didn't finish it all but was very happy with the taste. They definitely don't hold back on the cheese!! So if you like cheesy pizza, this is the spot for you! Vibes/Ambiance : 7/10 We came on a Tuesday evening and there was a lot of people! I definitely can tell this place is a go to for sports events or just gatherings. The place itself is cute. The decor is a little funky yet modern in design. I will say the seating is a bit crowded and it feels a bit claustrophobic. The tables are very close to each other and the tables are small. This place having a bar is a major plus and the variety of drinks is huge! Such a great spot. The service was quick and they were very nice. The gentleman in the front was super welcoming and friendly. I will say, as someone who was only a visitor, Carlsbad doesn't seem too friendly overall. People seem very standoff ish and unwelcoming so the places we did go to that had friendly people really stood out. This place was one of them. Ugh!!! I wish it was better but I can't say it is. Ordered my Mother's Day dinner at 8 AM. Super excited bc I figure they have been open long enough and it's a chain so it should've gotten their act together. Nope. Received cold food. Not lukewarm....COLD. Pizza cold is okay. Buffalo wings is not. It's not crispy...it's soggy. I'm beyond disappointed since I chose it AND it was 30 minutes after the time I ordered. Although the order was placed over 8-9 hours ago. Celebrated our anniversary here. We chose this restaurant because of their various offerings including pizza, Italian, salads, and drinks (they offer coke products btw!) They also offer a kids menu, and seemed kid friendly. There's a woman up front wearing carhartt gear who deserves the best service award. She was a breath of fresh air who seems like she enjoys her job and could not say enough positive things about the restaurant. The place is trendy and bold. They have indoor and outdoor dining, a bar in the middle, fireplaces, etc. we really enjoyed our food. We ordered the honey bear pizza, vegetables meal, kale salad and green pasta dish. All were delicious. Loved how balanced and tasty each dish was. My personal favorites were the pizza, sweet potatoes and kale salad. The honey bear had balanced flavors, and you could taste the salt, sweetness and spice. It was a nice surprise. The salad was delicious - even my toddler enjoyed it. We tried the IYKYK pizza and Smashing Pumpkin Pizza, the former on the gluten free crust. Both were delicious. A bit pricey but well worth the price as an occasional treat. We also tried all three vegetable dishes (grilled broccolini, roasted cauliflower, and roasted sweet potatoes). While those were also tasty, they didn't stand out as being special or worth the price. If I was doing it again I'd go for a third pizza. The service was okay but not attentive at times. May be but picky but I didn't like having to pay/tip when placing my order. For dinning in, I typically expect to pay at the end. If I wanted dessert, it would need be a whole new order. Plus the idea of tipping when eating there before I even get my food or have been served in any way seems iffy. read more

My wife and I were cruising by this place the other day, and she mentioned she'd heard good things about it from her friends - I'm always in the mood for pizza, so we stopped by. Interesting layout (not bad, just interesting) with a bar in the center of the room, and several different eating areas (and styles) surrounding it. We opted for a table in front, grabbed some menus, and checked it out. Pretty standard fare for a pizza joint, no real surprises there. We settled on the Sausage Party (only one size available) with pepperoni added. Ok, here's the one strange part (and cost a point). The ordering system is just weird. Go up to the bar, place your order, run your credit card. So at this point, this is basically like a drive through - yet the last step of the credit card procedure is asking for a tip. A tip for what? Running my credit card? This is just bizarre. Back to the pizza. It was delivered to the table about 10 minutes later, and we dug in. The crust is nice and light, and the sauce was slightly tangy....while the meats were perfect. Definitely recommended - be a great place for two, for groups, etc - loads of room. Enjoy! read more

Came here for lunch today and had an awesome experience! I ordered the Honey Bear pizza -- it was packed with flavor and came in a huge portion that was plenty to take home! I was also with a little one who got the kids' cheese pizza, and she loved it. Both pizzas came out fast and hot, which was such a win! The ordering setup is super casual and easy: grab a menu, pick your seat, then head to the front to place your order. You'll get a number and they'll bring your food out to you. They also had a solid tap list with plenty of drink options, and the space itself was really clean and inviting. Its frontage appearance is top notch. They hit a huge home-run with how they designed this place. You drive up and it's got open front to wear there's no windows, and the tables on the front side are in open air to the street. Then you go inside and the bar is set circle style, and also in the middle of the restaurant. Just really well designed. I was greeted immediately and my togo food was almost ready. I grabbed the food, some extra ranch they didn't charge me for, and went on my way. The food quality was very good. I love pizza that's not too doughy. It was thin, with great toppings & flavor. The mushroom & chicken cavatappi pasta we had was amazing, excellent flavor and quality ingredients, the spiral style pasta was cooked perfectly. My only slight knock was the food not being hot, my drive was only 5 minutes away before I opened up my food, also dough a tad soft not crisp but that might just be my preference on a thin crust. Arriving before 5:00 PM, we still had to wait almost a half an hour. Some people just left. Don't expect to be served, because you won't be. You order and pay for your food before you get seated. With three children we waited again almost a half an hour for two pizzas to come out. This pizza cooks within minutes in these ovens, not a half an hour. I think most people have had the same experience, but like the pizza, so their order and carry out is bigger than the eat in business. This is not a family oriented Resturant. The only time anyone came to the table, was to drop off the food. You have to get up and get your own water or drinks. There should be no tipping at this place, since there is no service. It's a pizza place but they have other stuff, too. Liked it, didn't love it. Whoever wrote the menu here earned their money. Everything sounds great and everything sounds fun. But beware: the menu is loaded with upselling land mines. The place is very attractive and makes great use of its space. The bar is especially inviting. You can eat at the bar but my guess is kiddos can't sit there, too. It looks like a typical restaurant where you are seated and served but they do things differently here. You first get a table and then you order your food and drinks at the bar closest to the entrance. Then they bring you your food--except for cocktails which you pick up yourself at the bar. It's all a little odd. At least you don't have to worry about getting your food before you have a table. How's the food? It's good. It also looks good. The meatballs appetizer was a decent and hearty starter. The Honey Bear pizza was also nice but the toppings were sparse. I was really hoping for more flavor from the pizza. The Staycation cocktail (basically a classy margarita) was beautiful and well-made. The place is very attractive and has a lot of fun bells and whistles. The food is good but not amazing. No table service! Basically you enter the restaurant, find a table then you go up and order while your significant other sits and waits for you to order- if it's busy you can be in line for a while. The staff was friendly, the service was quick, but the food was average. A busy place full of kids with the line out the door on a Saturday evening. Even though it was kid friendly, there was a full bar and a variety of interesting cocktails. You have to order all your food at the bar, but they deliver to your table. For my wife and I it still comes down to the food and we both independently agree that it was a 3, and we tried several things. The garlic cheese knots were well cooked dough, but there was no garlic or mozzarella to be found anywhere. There was some parsley, and some powdered cheese sprinkled on them, but the sauce was OK. A 3. The chicken meatballs (only kind available) plussed up were OK, but not that tasty. OK texture and the bread and the dipping sauce worked well, but total still maybe a 3. And the real reason we went was to try the pizza. It was very well-cooked with a thin crust and a nice edge to it. The real fresh mozzarella cheese topping was good, and the pepperoni crisped up a bit in their excellent oven. It was delivered fast and hot. My bf chose a random name out of a list of pizza spots and this was a good random pick! Didn't look at the pictures or reviews, just an adventurous moment. This pizza joint is located in a small plaza area and it was really really nice! It's located on the corner of the plaza and has a large parking area. As soon as you enter, there's a big sign to your right and straight ahead is their merch area (I ended up getting a couple of pins before we left). There were two hosts that greeted us right away, handed us menus and told us that we could order at the bar area and sit wherever we want. They had seating area inside and outside of the restaurant. On the inside, they had an open window which was nice for fresh air and facing perfectly towards the east for a nice sunset view, they have tables and booths on the sides and a full bar you could also sit at in the middle. Along 3 booths was a wide window that looks into the kitchen where you could see your pizza being made too! We ordered a sausage party pizza and the spicy rigatoni alla vodka. Both came out at the same time and super delicious! The service was really nice and we had someone check on us shortly after we ate. I can see that this would be a great spot to have drinks with friends too. I saw the bartenders interacting with the customers seated at the bar and having fun. Whenever we can make it out on a weekend, this is where we end up. Bar seats, Padres game, good energy. It has a real local feel that's hard to find. The food is consistently great and the menu keeps things interesting. Jonas recommended the Pineapple Express pizza from the winter menu and I'll be honest, I was skeptical. He sold me on it and I'm glad he did. The cocktail program is the real draw though. We told Jonas our preferences and let him run with it, and he curated a really fun experience built around the bar's specialty liqueur selection. The kind of thoughtful approach you don't always expect. If you happen to get Jonas or Lloyd behind the bar, you're in luck. Lloyd is newer to the team but already bringing the same great energy. These two are a big reason we keep coming back and they deserve the recognition. Good food, great drinks, and people who actually care about the experience. Highly recommend. read more

First, if the idea of pumpkin/pepita/goat cheese/pumpkin oil/greens pizza appeals to you, RUN DON'T WALK to Pitfire, because the menu will change on 1/16 and this DELICIOUS seasonal pizza will be gone. Ok, with that out of the way, we enjoyed our visit here a lot. I don't know if we'll dine in again, but the best things were DELICIOUS and the value was excellent. We saw on here that there are long waits on Sat. night. When we called they said we could make a reservation, which was great! We didn't realize that the wait is not just to sit - but for your pizza to be ready. So by the time we sat, it was going to be 50 mins for our pizzas to be ready. In the meanwhile, we each got a salad. The Little House Salad was delicious, fresh, and very large for $7.50. The breadcrumbs gave it that little extra je ne sais quoi that made it yummy. I got the Shaved Brussels Salad (also seasonal and also disappearing on 1/16). Very large for $8.50. Shaved brussels, almonds, cranberries, goat cheese, champagne vinaigrette. The vinaigrette was not my favorite but overall this was a really solid salad, very tasty and a good value. I'll happily eat the leftovers tomorrow; I just didn't love this as much as the Little House Salad. The pumpkin pizza (the one I told you to RUN and get) was AMAZING. So flavorful. HUGE! Between half the shaved brussels salad & 1 slice of this pizza I was starting to get full. YUM. This will probably be back in Oct. The margherita pizza, which my sweetie got, was not quite as impressive as the other food. It looked gorgeous - but it was pretty bland. Something was off in the seasoning and if someone only got this, it would not be a great representation of why they need to come to Pitfire. Verdict: salads were large, tasty and reasonable. LOVED the pumpkin pizza. I think I would order takeout next time & get something other than the margherita. We ordered the cheese (for the kids), Zoe's pepperoni, and the sausage party pizzas. All were so delicious! Will repeat again! My sister ordered the little gem caesar salad and brocollini (complete eye roll by me) and boy was I wrong. Lol...she ate most of it but they were both sooo goooddd!!! This is coming from a carnivore. The salad came with grinded croutons, which made a killer difference. The brocollini had the same grinded croutons as garnish but the real champion was the cooked perfection. And to top it off the service was outstanding! Although you order at the counter after you find a seat, everyone was really friendly. The IPAs that were recommended were sooo goooddd! I came with the family for a Monday lunch. Ordering and payment is done at the bar and then you grab a seat, where they will deliver your food. The restaurant was not busy on a Monday in late December at noon. The customer service was pleasant. I loved that it was a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere. The Honey Bear pizza was ok - I didn't taste any actual honey and I didn't notice any bee pollen as advertised, but it was otherwise good. The cheese pizza was solid - my little one especially enjoyed it. The Epic BBQ Chicken was quite good - my favorite of the 3 pizzas. The crusts ointment pizzas were mostly charred but still tender. We also got 2 pastas to to-go - the Spaghetti with Chicken Meatballs and Linguini Bolognese - both were good. All in all, it was a good experience and we would come back for another visit. read more
