This man sure knows his pizza. The crust was perfect- thin but not too thin and had a nice crunch to it without being burnt. It's been awhile since I gotten pizza from a popular pizza chain. My husband and I stumbled on Allen's New York Pizza after shopping at the Carlsbad Outlet on Friday dinner time. Feeling quite hungry we ordered 2 pizzas and the gentlemen suggested ordering half and half of their specialty pizzas "skyscraper half with jalapeño and half meat on meat with chicken Alfredo". I am so glad we went with his recommendation! There is something very unique about the flavors where you can taste the fresh dough and sauce evenly balanced with all the toppings! Each bite was tasty and crispy on the outside but soft and tasty all throughout! We left very full and satisfied with leftovers to bring home to our kids who also fell in love with the pizzas. Meh. I've only had food from here once. I ordered delivery. The pizza smelled incredibly good. However, upon opening the box, it seemed a little skimpy on toppings. There were way more veggies than meat. I know this because I tend to take the veggies off most of the time. There wasn't a lot of cheese either which was disappointing. The sauce was completely forgettable. The worst part was the soggy middle of the pizza. It's a thin crust pizza anyway and when you lift the slice to your mouth, it bends downward. Once you finally get the first bite of a slice, it's mushy crust and veggies. Not what I was looking for. I gave it two stars because it was my first time eating their food and maybe they were having an off day. Not an excuse, just giving them the benefit of the doubt. We arrived after 6PM and found the place mostly empty which was nice since we wanted some place quiet and relaxing to eat. Decided on some slices (cheese, pepperoni, and pepperoni and sausage) which were deliciously thin and full of flavor and a drink. Since we got four slices he threw in an extra drink for us. We had some time to talk to him while our pizza slices warmed up and he was so sweet to give me a slice of cookie since my husband mentioned my birthday is tomorrow.
