The vets here are so compassionate. They let the customer decide on the spend, but explain the pros and cons of waiting. We had two dogs, one 5 one 14 and recently lost the 14 year old there. My little man, Zeke, was having bloody diarrhea. His regular vet was completely booked out, and suggested taking him somewhere else. Knowing how expensive urgent care is, I called around for vets near home. Most vets are not accepting new clients at all. Thank goodness DMVH not only took Zeke as a new patient, but squeezed him into the schedule that day. Dr. Tsai was great with him and the staff were very kind as well. When my dog was diagnosed with two auto immune diseases at age 11, his care became much more complicated and the team at Del Mar Veterinary Hospital really stepped in to always make sure that they took time to not only listen to our concerns but also valued our feedback and were willing to try new therapies to make sure my dog lived a quality life with his health conditions. I called this vet last week to book a new client appt. I explained to the person who answered, "I am excited to find a new vet with a lot of experience with cats to take care of my Bella, please schedule me with your most experienced and best vet". I won't mention this person's name because she was a nice person, however, the next day when I complained about how awful my experience was, she stated "yeah, we get a lot of complaints about her" and the other nice girl at the front stated the same thing along with another girl AND a vet I complained to also! They all said, they often get complaints about Dr. Menghani, you never know what kind of "mood" she is in, she is condescending, rude and does not communicate or listen well either. I am suggesting you never schedule an appt. with Dr.Menghani! As you can imagine trying to build a relationship and trust the recommendation of the person scheduling, it was a MAJOR frustration to have the exact same girl who scheduled me with her after hearing my last couple painful vet stories, then tell me she has got other complaints. I wasted hundreds & hundreds of dollars, time & need to find another vet. AND, I have NO idea what is wrong with my cat. So many things went wrong in this appt & I never got a call from the owner to hear my story and apologize :( I arrived at 2:10 for my 2:30 appt to get in early and do paperwork. The girl forgot to give me paperwork and I had to do as I was trying to get out of there after being there for hours. The vet finally showed up in the room about 2:55 and nobody told me how late she was running and there was no apology. She rushed thru my appt and I told the vet tech the entire story of why I was there. Clearly my story did not get communicated to the vet as she was not answering my questions nor acknowledging my concerns at all. I was trying to give them more business (dental, etc but she didn't want to kindly even answer my questions about that to get a quote). When I would tell her things wrong, she would refer to a different part of my cat's body, even after correcting her several times. I have never had so little compassion nor time with a vet to establish a new relationship, this was by far the worst vet appt I have had, she was cold, rude and condescending. When I would say "can you please repeat what you saw in the X-ray so I can take notes" she would say "I already told you what I saw" and I had to keep asking, she didn't even offer to show me the X-rays. After them trying to collect urine with no luck, I let my cat stay in the back so they can try to get a sample. An hour and a half or so later, another new girl brought out my cat in her cage. I stated to this girl, why is there so much blood in her cage, she stated back to me " I don't know, I was just given this CASE" she referred to my cat as a case and didn't even see all this blood. Then I said I don't want to take her home until I know where the blood is coming from, how did she miss this? It was everywhere. Regardless, we opened the cage and she started to clean off my cat with a towelette. My cat started yowling and hissing and she kept tugging her leg aggressively, I asked her repeatedly to stop as I would finish cleaning her at home now since my cat was clearly distressed and she would not stop!! I can't believe the lack of compassion and having my cat be called a "case"! So many other incidents went wrong here. I told the vet I don't want to give her pain meds until we get the labs and urine back, she kept insisting on it and gave her an OPIOD without even telling me it was an opioid! I asked her for Gabapentin for pain and anxiety relief from being at the vet, Dr. M stated "we don't give that out for this situation" After complaining again about her comment, the other vet who was very nice, Dr. Norell stated, yes we do, that is exactly what I would have given her and she did wound up prescribing her that. If you are seeking a kind, compassionate, empathetic, happy, good listener, good communicator vet who really deeply care, DO NOT SEE DR.Menghani! I waited a week to post this review in hopes of the Manager or Owner calling to hear my story, I heard nothing from the Manager/owner........ read more

I've had dogs all my life and had many different vets but this clinic is truly outstanding. Dr. Tsai is the head veterinarian and clinic manager. He has exceptional expertise and knowledge but is also the most personable, helpful and genuine veterinarian I have ever dealt with. He will frequently do a phone consult so I don't have to pay for an office visit, and takes time to send detailed emails and voicemails free of charge. This is a rare clinic where the doctors and staff are genuinely sympathetic about the financial burdens of vet care for the owner. If there is a cheaper way to purchase a medication online for example, they will tell you about it even though it does not benefit them. They will also voluntarily tell you if certain treatment options can be postponed. For high cost procedures, they are happy to explore other options first and do everything they can to avoid huge vet bills for you, without compromising the care of your pet. Over the years I have been taking my dog there, I have come to have total trust in recommendations about treatment. They genuinely care about the animals they treat and are not in it simply for the money. The clinic itself is calm and welcoming - you will immediately be put into a private room to avoid dogs in the lobby. The staff and doctors are timely and I've never been left waiting for long periods. I currently have an extremely fear-aggressive pit bull mix that could make going to the vet a complete nightmare. The only reason it is not is because of this clinic. I am deeply grateful for the work Dr. Tsai and his team do and wish all veterinarians could be like this. read more

Dr. Norelle and the rest of the staff are amazing!! The minute you walk inside you feel the friendliness and the love they have for pets. Dr. Norelle is the sweetest most caring veterinarian. My kitty had some eye issues in the beginning when we bought him, and Dr. Norelle went out of her way making sure she was there for us by answering our questions and our concerns even on her days off!
