What in the world did I walk into? WOW! This store is massive! and amazing! They have EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING for your pets. I was so impressed with their selection of foods, and learned that they also have their own brand products, I purchased some wet cat food from their own brand and my cats licked their bowl dry! The location is great in a shopping center with plenty of parking spaces right out front. Their staff is also really friendly, and shared a lot of info with me, besides the store they do offer other services from vet visits, dental cleanings, adoption events, its such a well rounded store through and through. Super well organized, and well stocked! We also got a sample bag with a lot of their branded products, and so far everything that my cats have tried has been a total hit! I was in the area already, but I do wish that they had more of these stores in southern San Diego and the south bay area. I actually found out about this location because they provided super cute dog cookie samples to their neighbor Uncle Biff's Killer Cookies. Our dogs enjoyed the samples so I stopped by Kahoots recently to purchase a few items. They have their own brand so I think their dog treats are more affordable than others. This location is quite large and is located by Marshalls. Parking was a bit tough that mid week afternoon as most of the spaces close to the store were taken. The staff was nice here. I told them about the samples we saw at Uncle Biff's and she knew instantly what I was talking about. They had a few other flavors and she helped explain to me the ingredients as well as the cost (compared to other brands). I usually buy dog toys on Amazon as 1) they're typically cheaper and 2) the return policy is great. But certain toys have been hard to find on there. I was surprised to see the toys at similar prices here at Kahoots. I'm not sure of their return policy but figured I was here and didn't want to waste the trip. I had asked about their brand of dog food as well. The nice woman gave me two sample bags to try which was nice. Both dogs have enjoyed them thus far with no stomach issues so we'd consider switching them to these brand perhaps in the future. This is a convenient location off the 5 freeway in Solana Beach. I'm not sure if they discount their own brand of dog treats but would keep a look out for that for the next possible visit. read more

Hunter was the best. We are having a flea issue so we went to kahoots to hopefully get a spray of some sort for the house. Hunter had just taken a flea and tick class and was so beyond helpful. He explained everything we needed to know. He even gave us a spreadsheet of all of the products and how they help. He wrote notes for us on a paper step by step. We appreciate you Hunter!! read more

THIS PLACE IS THE BEST! Especially the staff Monique and Zack, who did not hesitate for a single second to help me as I frantically rushed in (on a Sunday since the vets were closed) after I noticed a good size Tick on my small dog winston (who has never had ticks before so I didn't know what it was). They both worked together to gently remove the entire Tick and rinse with wound care, all while reassuring Winston with love and treats. They pointed to me the best flee and tick prevention products and would kindly not accept any tips. I left Kahoots feeling genuinely cared for and I couldn't be more grateful to have a local store of people who care so deeply about our furbabies. read more

Do people really pay these prices? It seems like a big pet store, so I though their prices would be comparable to Unleashed by Petco. When I entered, I was blown away at how expensive the products are. The selection is the same as Unleashed by Petco, but at a higher price. Even the so-called sale prices are expensive. I came in here looking for some items for my new pups and after I didn't agree with the employees recommendation and asked for other ideas she rolled her eyes at me and made me feel like I was crazy for not wanting to use her advice. I popped in to the Solana Beach location while I was waiting for my rescue beagle to arrive on a transport from Texas. I told Yessi (not sure if I have the spelling right) that I needed a crate pad and then mentioned why. She told me she had two beagles of her own and seemed super excited for our new addition. I returned once Antonio arrived, and the employees could not have been nicer. Helped Tony get settled in a basket and offered him treats (he loved the chicken treats!), then helped me pick out everything we needed since somehow the transport left all of his belongings in Texas. Even provided a welcome bag when we checked out. I cannot say enough about the customer service here-it was a long and nerve-wracking day for us, and Kahoots managed to make it special. This store is lovely, they're a smaller company with BIG hearts. What makes this location SO special is the employees and customer service. I always have a lovely experience, but today was exceptional. I happened to call about an eye ointment for my pet pig and Alexia answered promptly. She walked me through treatment options, compared active ingredients, offered different options and made my choice so easy. Not to mention, she was warm, kind, engaged and had all the time in the world to help me out. A really rare quality to find, especially over the phone! What makes a business is the people and people like Alexia are what keep us coming back again and again! They are always happy to answer questions and give recommendations as well as order special food for you. The store is clean and well organized (though small). The employees are rude and that ruined my whole experience. Twice I've had bad experiences. Once a cashier ignored me while I stood at the counter with my stuff and waited. Not once did he bother to say "I'll be just a second" or "thanks for waiting" so finally I just left my stuff and walked out. The second time I came in with my four year old. She is VERY good in pet stores. She even knows not the touch the glass of the fish tanks or the cages for the birds. She stays with me and I do my best to keep her focused. Today she wandered a few steps from me. She wanted to go back to see the birds. I saw her, asked her to come back, and when she didn't I went to get her. I took her hand, told her not to go without me and then I'm approached by an employee and TOLD to keep a better eye on my child. Wow. Done. Never shopping in another Kahoots ever again. read more

These guys are still persevering with the dead fish. Most of the tanks had at least one dead (for several days by the looks of things) fish sucked up against the filter intake; gross. The guppy tank had 3 dead ones and the alive fish had some evidence of a fungus problem; not good. Also, tried to redeem a coupon we got through the mail. 40% off an item. If you wanted cat/dog food then you had to have Kahoot's brand to get the discount. No problem, That's a good discount and we can give it a try, if it wins we will be back coupon or no coupon; surely the point of the coupon? Anyway, all multi-packs of Kahoot's food already have a discount. Yes that's right, just like the rest of the world if you buy a 12 pack you get the products cheaper than if you buy 12 individual cans. However Kahoots consider that this is a "10%" discount and therefore not compatible with the coupon. I would have called a 12 pack an "item" but there you go, the logic the rest of the world uses that might also remove dead fish from tanks to promote sales doesn't seem to apply here. In other word, the 40% coupon is only valid if you buy one singe can of cat food. What sort of shitty waste of time offer is that? I can't wait until April when the valid coupon is for 10% off a 90c cat food product. I will rush down there again; I might pick up some dead fish while I am there... read more

But the staff is just SO incredible! I stopped in briefly to see what Kahoot's was all about...(okay, I just wanted to see the live animals!), and I found myself with a couple of questions about exotics. The staff were so knowledgeable and friendly, I basically forgot about my awkward introverted tendencies and found out everything I wanted to know about my inquiry. I had a very long and educational discussion about my fat cat and what to feed her. They also have store brand food and free samples at the front. First off, I LOVE BUNNIES! So I swing in here often even when I don't need cat food, because they usually have bunnies and guinea pigs which are also super cute. They have live chicks as well. The staff is really friendly, knowledgable, engaging and helpful. Love that they have Blue Buffalo, dang, that food is expensive, but it's worth it. It's great to support a local business that has amazing service and people working there. I'll go out of my way to go to Kahoot's over Petco. I like this little store. They have a very nice selection and the prices are reasonable. They carry many of the higher quality dog food that you cannot get at Petco or Petsmart. The staff are also very friendly. I took off one star for some of the dog chews. We had an issue with a couple of them being very smelly or my dog not liking them. I purchased a cat scratcher replacement from this store and it turned out to be the wrong size. Unfortunately, I lost the receipt and Kahoots won't even issue a store credit without a receipt. This was not an expensive item but I would have appreciated a store credit. I was told I would have to seek approval for a store credit from corporate, so they could take my name and number and someone would call me. I can't remember the last time I shopped somewhere with this sort of policy except a clothing boutique. I won't be buying from a pet store that doesn't have better customer service policies. My most recent visit sums this place up. I had to get litter for our cats and food for my dog, so I stopped in. Despite the fact that they didn't have either of the specific brands I was looking for I ended up buying a more expensive brand of litter and taking a sample of a different dog food. I had to, they were too helpful and nice for me to leave there empty handed. Everybody I've encountered here is really friendly, really helpful, and an animal lover through and through. I ended up going to another store to get my dog's regular brand, but only so I can slowly wean her on to the new stuff that I was given a sample of. read more

Kids love this store because they let you pick up the rabbits and guinea pigs. But to actually buy something is really another story altogether. The prices are high...we have two dogs and there is no way we could afford to feed them at these prices. They do have specials...we found a beta fish for only $2 but we bought the support materials (i.e., food) at PetCo. read more

Our dog loves all the treats we buy from them, especially their seasonl pumpkin treats!! They have a wide range of dog products including their own brand name, and raw foods. They also have fish, cat, guinea pigs, rabbits and various other small animal products. If you live in Solana Beach you also receive coupons in the mail for the store, but oddly enough you can only use one coupon a day even if it is for different products. Read the coupons carefully, because sometimes it is only valid on Kahoots brand products. Some of the products are over priced, but they are good quality and with a small dog, they last a while. read more

Kahoots pet stores had a very friendly staff. A little too friendly to the point were instead of cleaning the fish tank and clear them of all the dead fish in the tank. They are talking to everyone in store and gossiping. Having a great social staff is great and all but it's supposed to be a pet store that stands out from the others. read more

Absolutely would not recommend shopping here as there are so many other places that actually care about their customers. Today i read the new FDA report listing several dog foods that could potential cause heart disease in large breed dogs. I had purchased one of them about 1 week ago so i wanted to see if i could exchange it for a brand that i had used before and wasn't on the list. Upon arrival i said " hi, i don't know if you can do anything about this but i just read the new FDA report regarding" .....He cut me off and in a super passive aggressive tone said, "oh, you mean the one that says .00000000..........." i cut him off and said "well when you love your dog you don't take the risk" He scoffed at me and said this was done over a 5 year period and only 24 dogs have died on the brand i was referencing. Now i didn't even care about a refund as i had just gone in to find out if their policy would allow an exchange and if not no biggie i would buy a new one but the way this guy was acting was ridiculous. I said never mind and i would take my business elsewhere. I recommend Dexters in Del Mar. They are super friendly with great prices and 0 attitude. read more
