Just finished eating there and I should have stayed away the moment I realized the restaurant was completely empty. As a Latina, I can say this is by far the worst Mexican restaurant I've ever been to. Not only is the place and mess with things everywhere and tables not properly cleaned with no one there but the food was subpar. The chips were stale and the manager said they ran out of salsa so they gave us cheese which was very watered down. Housed in the middle of an apparently dying shopping center, you will find Del Rio Mexican Restaurant. A little scary from the outside, but OK inside. We have tried several Mexican restaurants since moving out here and haven't been able to find a decent one after trying 5 others. Stumbled onto this place by looking for a place to have drinks with friends after an afternoon event. We had several appetizers with our drinks that we enjoyed. That and the warm welcome and atmosphere wiped away our initial trepidations about this place. Since then, we have come back for meals three times. All three meals were very good. As a matter of fact, their Carne Asada was off the hook! Another restaurant nearby has very high ratings, but based on several visits there, this little hole in the wall is better on several counts. Don't be put off by the location and exterior appearance. Try out Del Rio for your local Mexican food fix. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. read more

Soggy food just not that good tbh.. and I had a DoorDash pickup order at 11:57 and I got there at 12:08 and they said they closed the kitchen... they were BLASTING music in the kitchen with people drinking beer, when my order was supposed to be there smh.. if it's a Saturday and your open till 1am let people know your going to close early, otherwise your wasting people's time. read more

I really wanted to like this place. I am new to the area and needed my Mexican fix. The 1st time I just popped in to see what it was all about. It was during the lunch hour and the place was dead. I wasn't too surprised considering the strip mall where it is located. There is basically nothing going on in this little shopping center. The bartender I chatted with was super nice and provided good information. He welcomed me back. I liked him. I came back around 6:00 p.m. on a different day. I sat at the bar with my boyfriend. There was no one in the whole restaurant. I ordered a beer and it was a little bit flat. I ordered a chimichanga after asking if it was ground beef or shredded beef. The bartender said ground. It came shredded. She tried to tell me there was a communication problem with the kitchen. Then she told me that she rang it in incorrectly. I went back a second time and tried the lunch buffet. One of the dishes was not very warm while the others were at a good temperature. It seems as though everything is watered down. The queso was runny, as was the refried beans. The ground burger for tacos was also very soupy. On the fixings bar the lettuce was in a container of water and soggy. There was no shredded cheese and no jalapenos. Honestly, the flavor was actually pretty good. It appears as though they are cutting corners to save money and I was not impressed. I am doubtful that I will return, unfortunately. read more

So I was very excited to learn there was a Mexican lunch buffet in town, and I love Mexican, this buffet was NOT good, food warm not hot, everything cheaply put together for quality of food, I love buffets and Mexican but they really missed the mark here..... I was hopeful for this place when we moved here but definitely bad bad bad. We've given it a try a few times hoping it was just a couple bad days before but unfortunately not. The young man that is always our waiter seems stoned, can barely keep his eyes open and always lays down in an empty booth between taking orders. The soda machine is some how ALWAYS down and they serve flat soda poured out of 2-liter bottles, but only Coke. When we told the waiter it was flat instead of offering to open a new bottle he just said "uhh I could fill your glass to the top if you want". Yeah, that's not going to help bud. I ordered a burrito and it maybe had three pieces of meat throughout the entire thing. I get their struggling, like everyone else, but this certainly isn't going to bring customers in. And the dirty, dusty decor and holes in the wall also doesn't help. read more

I barely give this place a star. The food is absolutely awful. Ordered the seven sea soup and enchilada lovers delight. The soup is huge and it is a lot of seafood; but it's also broth heavy and it's aroma was strong. No tortilla soup, which if you want to be a good Mexican place, you need to have that. Now for the enchiladas. They were anything but a delight. Those were very bland and had poor taste. I almost threw up eating them. There's something in them that almost made me sick. Also, the rice was terrible and the beans were too watery and had a hint of a chocolate taste, where it came from I don't know. The feel I got from it was Mexican cantina meets what Americans expect from Mexican food, nothing authentic (I've been to Mexico twice). I'd rather drive up the few blocks and just go to Taco Bell. Overall I had a lousy experience and overpaid dearly for it. El Ranchero and El Centro are much better options and are only the next town over in Winchester. While we were there (lunch on a Monday) we saw only two other tables. We were the only table in there for at least half of our visit. Drinks, chips, meal, refills, the check, all came out very slowly. Our waitress was nice enough. I think she and the cook may have been the only people working. We were a large party (5 adults and 8 kids) so I didn't expect lightening fast service, but this was frustrating. Food was ok. Beef with tacos were super greasy and lunch "chimichanga" was more of a taquito. I wouldn't recommend. read more

Good food, spicy...suprisingly spicy in fact! I havnt had Mexican food like that since I lived in CA. Seems like a lively bar scene also, we sat in the bar side dining room and it was noisy and the bar patrons were spilling over, kinda irritating when you are trying to have a nice meal, we will definately sit on the other side next time as it seemed much quieter. Overall though a good experience, reasonably priced and VERY tasty!!! Mexican food rookies beware, more spicy than you are used to but dont let that deter, well worth a visit! read more

This is a good Mexican spot and has pretty good food. I have to say, the salsa is probably my favorite out of all of the mexican places in the Winchester area. I have always loved Chile con Queso and theirs is great. In terms of their entrees, I don't think you could go wrong. Everything I've had has been good. I couldn't eat it as it smelled and tasted funny. I asked that they not charge me, they said okay, but remade my dinner and still charged me anyway. Rather than argue we paid - NEVER to return. Me and my family recently moved to the area so, we decided to try this place... BIG MISTAKE!! First of all they serve chips w/ salsa. The salsa tasted like raw! My husband said; let's not be skeptical, maybe the food it's good... so, he ordered some cheese dip. That came out ice cold. Keep going...When ordering our beverages, my husband asked about non-alcoholic beer. The server laughed so hard like he was telling her a joke! He looked her serious and told her he wasn't kidding. Later on... Same waitress came and told me that the burrito Veracruz that I've ordered, they don't had it, which I reply; it was in the menu. So, instead of checking for herself, she went and grabbed a menú for me to point out where it was that burrito. That's not all ! When our food arrived, I found out my burrito had the size of an enchilada so, I called the server and she told me , she'll call the owner. He came around the door as we we're sitting outside and looked to us and walked away. A couple of minutes he literally just opened the door and yelled to us that we didn't have to pay anything that he was going to take everything off from our check, but the way he said it like we were beggars and we're just trying to get free food. I told her we weren't trying to get rid of our check , only thing was I wanted what I was ordering. So my husband told me to leave because I was getting so offset at this point. First time eating here was 6/18/2020 for dinner. We sat outside as it was a nice evening. The place was busy and I believe there was only a single waitress but the service was still really good. We started with the standard chips and salsa but added the house dipping which was exceptional. I believe it's called pico de gallo was one of them it was the best I've ever had. I ordered the enchilada supreme one of each and the Mrs had chimichangas deluxe. Both were outstanding though were not served piping hot but still warm enough as to not need a send back. My wife actually preferred it that way as we could dig in right away. One thing I really appreciated was the waitress gave us a picture of soda so we could refill our own sodas and not have to wait. That scored her a extra fat tip. The prices are reasonable. We ordered an app 2 dinners sodas and a to go order of 3 soft tacos for under 50$ This is now our favorite Mexican restaurant. Next time we are going to have to try the lunch buffet. read more

I've always enjoyed the small, quaint, friendly and fun local Del Rio and I looked forward to hanging out with friends on Wed and Thurs nights for karaoke. Not anymore. The attempt by management to turn Del Rio into a mexican nightclub literally makes me sick. I suffer from vertigo and the overkill of disco lighting is nauseating plus the amount of fog blown into the too-small room burns my throat and makes it difficult to see. The dining room and bar area were divided and putting the dining booths in the bar area just doesn't work for me. I also haven't seen one person sitting in any of them. I may continue to go there on Wednesdays and Thursdays but I'll have to stay on the practically empty bar side or outside on the patio because changing the dining room into a "nightclub" makes me sick. Complaints to the manager by 2 other people were met with rude disdain. Sad. read more

Food was awful, service was lacking and the atmosphere was not family friendly. People were cussing loudly in the bar area at almost a scream. My wife hated her quest quesadilla but was unable to tell anyone because no one came back to check on us. When someone finally came back we just asked for the check and told them then but they didn't seem to care. Which was apparent when they didn't remove her meal she only had 3 bites of. We read an article in the Winchester Star about this place which mentioned they had many vegetarian options so we decided to check it out for dinner. The article also mentioned that everything in the restaurant is made in-house except for whipped cream and chocolate sauce. They even make their own tortillas and tortilla chips. Impressive! When you walk in the restaurant, it's split into two sections. To the left is a small seating area, the bar, and the restrooms. To the right is a larger dining room. We sat in the large dining room which was pretty warm and cozy despite having storefront windows. Our waitress was nice and friendly and got us water with a fresh lemon slice right away. We were brought chips and salsa, which was pretty good. The salsa was spicy... not too spicy, just perfect. It got hotter the more we ate! We ordered: Vegetarian Tacos, no cheese (the tacos don't come with cheese, but the beans on the side do) Vegetarian Fajitas, no cheese, no sour cream We were expecting the usual mexican restaurant "vegetable mix" of onions, bell peppers, and tomato and we were absolutely wrong! When the tacos and fajitas came out, they contained cauliflower, broccoli, zucchini, onion, red & green bell peppers, carrots, and tomatoes! Yay! The tacos came with a side of rice and a side of black beans. The rice was really yummy by itself and actually had some diced veggies in it... corn, lima beans, green beans, etc. The beans were also good, nothing super special, but nothing to complain about. There were 3 tacos (the menu only said two! bonus!), each in two small tortillas and each topped with a slice of avocado and some cilantro. They were delicious. The fajitas came out in a sizzling pan and came with tortillas, rice, refried pinto beans, lettuce, pico de gallo, and guacamole. The seasoning on the veggies was awesome and they had a great grilled flavor. They were perfectly cooked... no overly crunchy broccoli or mushy onions. We were very happy with our meals and the service. We will be back again and definitely recommend this place for other vegans since it's so easy to have them leave off the cheese and sour cream. Exactly what you'd expect from a strip-mall Mexican Restaurant. Service slow and not too friendly. Margarita's tasted good, but could not tell if they had any alcohol whatsoever. Soft taco was actually fairly good, but the three enchiladas were lukewarm and just blah. I don't know...mediocre food, barely satisfactory service, and prices for the entrees were WAY too high for this kind of restaurant. I usually enjoy going to Del Rio because they offer some tasty vegetarian options. However my last visit was a serious disappointment. I get take out a lot and this time was no exception. So you'll understand my horror when I get home and find that my Santa Fe combination (which is a vegetarian combo to include a guacamole taco, bean burrito, and cheese enchilada) had a meat taco and meat burrito. Ended up seating ourselves and when we picked a seat we were told by the waitress/bartender that we couldn't sit there because of the crowd.......we were the only ones in the place. I then told her we had to seat ourselves and we picked that table she laughed and walked into the kitchen. Spoke to manager and she then tells us she has had many complaints about her. Best part of the restaurant is the friendly and attentive staff. Also, the tortilla chips were warm and tasty. The entrees were generous sized, but nothing out of the ordinary. I was disappointed in the "cheese" sauce on my burrito combo meal. It should have come with a disclaimer that no cheese was harmed in the making of that product.
