Stopped by yesterday with our family of ten while on a roadtrip. We expected a longer wait due to party size and were okay with that however Toni g was not a problem. The shorter Hispanic server was more than rude. Talked back to us, shoot her head, and questioned where we asked for an additional appetizer! Apparently a higher check total is not sought after here. Additionally, our burgers were horrible, well overcooked, dry, and the fires were still raw inside their flash fried outside. Super unfortunate experience for a small town gem. read more

Waitress was the worst I've ever had - rude, had To ask multiple times for drink refills and chip refills. Burgers were way over cooked, fries were undercooked. Been here before and it was great but sure has went the wrong way in customer service and taste! Will never stop there again. read more

My wife and I stopped in for breakfast on the way to CO Springs per the reviews my wife saw. Not a great experience. First, the pancake mix is Bisquick for biscuits. The pancakes looked like big, flat biscuits and tasted like biscuits. Not what we were expecting. The waitress compted part of the bill. Second, when the check came there was a service fee added. This is before she knew my method of payment so it wasn't a credit/debit card fee. Tax is one thing, but nickle and diming people is another game restaurants play that I can do without along with suggested 18% and 20% tips. read more

We go there for their cheeseburgers and fries... burger is juicy and tasty along with the melted American cheese all on a toasted bun are a great combination...the fries are perfectly salted and crispy... When available they also have some amazing tamales... read more

Wow on top of wow. Our waitress was working her tail off and doing a great job with the entire front of the house. Ten tables full and a constant flow and both the back of the house and front kept the meals coming and coming in grand fashion. The place is 1960s from top to bottom with a signed Elvis portrait to prove it. We had three lunches and each was a home run. I had the special (I always have a special) and this meatball sandwich was amazing. Hot, but not too hot, smothered in cheese but not too smothered and a fresh bun and perfect onion rings. My wife had, get this, two hard shell tacos for $2.25 each. She had one, then ordered another (a real anomaly for her limited eating habits). Home made everything, salsa, tortillas and fresh everything. Our third had a chicken wrap that she raved over. Again, a one of a kind place, amazing food and happy hard working people doing the best job you can imagine. Tip well people, very well. We left here with a $33 bill for three people. read more

I stopped in the other day for breakfast. The staff was super friendly and I was helped right away. I had the huevos rancheros and coffee which they kept full for me. I really wanted something small but once I saw the rancheros on the menu, I had to have it. I ate all of it, every bit. lol. Everything was seasoned well and had great balance between the potatoes, cheese, eggs etc.. Everyone was so nice, the food was great and the price was right. I will definitely be back :) read more

This place is one of the few breakfast places to stop at on the way to Sand Dunes National Park but that was okay with me. To start, a lot of the people eating here appeared to be more local and seemed to know each other so my group of three did get a few stares. But that's expected when it's in a town of 600 or less people. I got the American cheese omelette. It wasn't bad, but wasn't anything outstanding. Since we stayed in Fort Garland overnight, We decided to have breakfast here early on a Sunday morning, rather than driving all the way up to Alamosa. since all the restaurants in this small town were either not open yet, or closed on Sundays, we decided to eat here. We all had something different to eat, but I decided to have the skillet, smothered with chili. We were all pleased with our breakfast, and full stomachs after we ate. The dinning room was clean, as well as the men's room. However, the reason for only four stars, I was told by my wife, and another companion, that the ladies rest room was a little filthy, and needed a good cleaning. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere and the wait staff were very kind, especially considering our 1-year-old made a mess. There is a playground outside which is a neat perk. At the risk of contradicting the other reviews of this place and seeming perhaps petty, small minded, and mean-spirited . . . Del's Diner is at most an OK but not a great spot to stop when passing through the town of Fort Garland. Del's is the last place you'll see when leaving town, heading east. So, if you don't stop there, the next place you'll come to will be in Walsenburg, a lonnnnnnng way over La Veta Pass. OK green chili. OK grilled cheese sammi. OK, to a little bit better than OK fries. Not so OK apple pie and ice cream, and not so OK hot chocolate makes for at most 3 stars. Fort Garland: Spectacular views of Blanca Peak and the Sand Dunes. I couldn't give zero stars so they get one. We were there on a Saturday morning having stayed the night in town. They weren't too busy, but it took 10 minutes for someone to bring menus and take drink orders. My husband and I had the two egg breakfast. Toast was not buttered and was cold. The hash browns were mush - they just disintegrated in our mouths. A couple bites of that were all we could stand. My husband's eggs were slimy and mine were cold. The bacon was crispy and fell apart when you picked up. The sausage was good though. We overheard some older gentlemen tell one young waitress that he needs to show "you girls how to waitress." He's not wrong. While he's at it, maybe show the cook how to cook. read more

There are only a few places to dine in Ft. Garland and my group was glad we chose Del's. After being in the mountains for a few days, tired of hot dogs on the fire, we came into town to let someone else cook for us. Our server was accommodating, attentive, and very sweet. The food was great! I had the BLT with onion rings and a coke float, my friends had chicken fried steak (homemade potatoes mmm), and patty melt. We left extremely satisfied. I have to leave a 5-star review for Del's Diner, even though I haven't tried their food (yet). This rating is based solely on their customer care. Last night, my husband and I stopped briefly at Del's only to meet friends in the parking lot. Del's was a meeting point between our home in NM and my friend's home in Denver. My friend was running 90 min late, and my husband also had to get home to NM. So.... I went into Del's to ask if I could simply wait there for the duration and maybe just purchase a juice. The two ladies who were waiting tables last night were so very kind and welcoming! They welcomed me in even though it was Friday night at dinnertime. They were fine with me bringing in my belongings (a box, a computer case, travel bag, etc.) and just holing up in a corner booth until my friend's arrival. Both ladies kindly looked after me while I was there. Although I had no food and just a juice during my wait, the menu looked great for a somewhat middle-of-nowhere diner (although the surrounding area is gorgeous as are the views from the diner). The diner itself seemed clean and looked-after, and I wouldn't have hesitated to eat there had I not already had 'to-go' food on hand for my travels. Once my ride arrived, I thanked the staff for taking care of me and told them that I would for sure be back (for a meal next time!) when I came through the area again. I am a local, and I like Del's, been going here for years, they expanded, but everything stayed the same. Food, is good, price is good, service is good, nothing really remarkable, but good food at a good price. Bad news, Del's been closed since the virus, I hope not closed for good. When I would head for the front range, I would always stop for Breakfast. I get hungry by the time I get to George's in Walsenburg. read more

Great execution of a diner! Simple, clean, and the food seemed home made. We had the taco plate and taco salad. The flour taco bowl was created fresh - still warm - and the refrigerated beans were delicious - not canned. Don't expect a fancy menu. read more
