Hamburger steak & eggs
Frank R.

Food amazing. Service friendly. Ambiance old town vibe. Hands down the best chicken fried steak I've had. The cut of meat is thick, and tender. Only needed a fork to cut my steak. Eggs were perfectly executed. Toast served perfectly. Hash-browns made perfect to order.

Much better than you'd think strolling into the one cafe in a small town in the middle of nowhere. Though I think we all know that sometimes those are the best places. I wouldn't say this was the best but it was very good. One of us had a burger. It was good. Not the best or worst he's had. A Philly cheesesteak with curly fries on the side that my husband said was good. Sopapillas smothered in red Chile sauce that my son really liked. I had the tamales smothered in green Chile sauce. They were good and had some residual heat. They came with rice and beans. On this long stretch of limited choices, it was a good meal.

Nice ambiance

This is a local breakfast place in Colorado that is very good and offer us some unique place such as chili rellano breakfast burrito , Huevos rancheros and anything else you want covered in green chili Staff was polite and efficient Ambiences local hang out place

Chili Relleno with green chili is on point, service was great! Waitress did awesome. Recommend

Suprisingly good, its right off the main highway, fast and very filling. i had a smothered beef burrito with green chili and i would say its better than Chubbys if you are from Denver Colorado. It wasnt to hot but had a nice flavor. the menu is limited for those that have kids... so no kids menu as a fyi. when in the aread i will be going back. pricing was a little high but it filled me up so it was worth the cost.

No menus available online or anywhere else this was as close as I got haha

They do not have a menu online and are not willing to tel you the menu over the phone so good luck! We guessed and ordered chicken burritos. Got them to go (coronavirus). Chips and guac. Everything was good! It was about 40$ for two burritos and chips and guac, so not cheap. But not bad! If I was driving through again I would get food from here again. Looks like a nice place to go if you can stop and have a drink and hang out too!

Service was slow and I found the grande burrito with red and green sauce lacking flavor. Wife got fish and chips with the fish also lacking flavor. Was going to give the place a 2 star but the pies were pretty good.

Came by Lu's for lunch and I was not disappointed! I had the hook up burger with bacon, and it was cooked to perfection. The green chile is a nice addition and the fries were delicious. Sadly they were out of sopapillas and the ice cream machine was broken. Had the cherry pie for dessert and it was perfect. Our server was very friendly and attentive. Didn't get his name, but he's from Indiana. It's worth stopping by Lu's!

Our breakfast was nothing short of fabulous!!! My wife ordered the Red Velvet waffles that had scrambled eggs and bacon on the side. I ordered the Eggs Benedict that was smothered in Hollandaise sauce and hash browns - not something that you will get at home on a regular basis. WOW!!! Both entrees were so good that it will have us coming back for more!! We had the privilege of meeting Willie as he was working the crowd. As we travel around the country, I find that if the manager/owner is working the crowd it's bound to be a great place - for sure in this case with Willie's. I told him that I call that "Leadership On Duty"!!! Three staff members also worked our table. Bow, Terri, and Summer, each had a division of duties and, as a result, we were really taken care of. The ambience was truly out of the western small town mode - clean, efficient service, and fabulous food. Four cups of the best coffee and a full stomach and was time to hit the road back home. Give Willie's a try as you will not be disappointed. Be sure to say "hi" to Willie, Bow, Terri, and Summer - they are the best.

Our server (unfortunately I don't remember his name) asked if we wanted a wine list but we decided against it (my grandmother ended up getting the cab later, one of the smoothest wines she has ever had and it was only 6 dollars). He brought out our antipasto which was a tomato pesto (forgot the name unfortunately), sheep cheese, and Chinese 5 seasoned pork with fresh bread, truly delicious. Our appetizer choices were house salad or New England clam chowder, my grandmother got the salad I got the clam chowder, I have to admit I was a little skeptical when it came out, I prefer a thicker clam chowder, but this was truly one of the best clam chowders I have ever had, and I am from a costal state. My grandmother loved her salad. It is an entirely verbal menu, he gave us 7ish (maybe 8 lol) different options, I went with the Duck confit with a blackberry currant glaze, jasmine rice, and brown beech mushroom and green bean. My grandmother had the teriyaki pork loin chop on jasmine rice paired with the beech mushroom and green beans. I have been to France, Italy, Germany, the UK, Gordon Ramseys Hell's Kitchen, and other Michelin restaurants. When I say this is truly the best piece of poultry I have ever consumed, I mean it. It was tender but not mushy, the rice was cooked perfectly and the glaze brought just enough sweetness and tartness to balance the fat from the duck. It was one of the only meals I have ever consumed and absolutely loved every aspect of. I don't even like mushrooms and I ate every single one. My grandmother loved her food, she has been having some slight stomach issues and she said it felt very good to her body. The loin was evidently pulled just before 145, allowing it to rest and remain extra, extraordinarily juicy and tender, the teriyaki sauce was sweet but not too sweet, it had just the perfect amount of tang as well as notes of ginger I believe. For desert we had the crème brûlée which was extraordinary, one of the best I have ever had. I talked with the head chef (he went to a culinary school in Scottsdale Arizona), and he was a very kind man who brought out our crème brûlée personally to us. If you are hearing all of this and thinking "man this is out of my price range" it is priced at $40 dollars for the antipasto, the soup/salad, and the entree, which is absolutely ludicrous for this quality of food, they could easily charge 60-80 a plate. I highly recommend you give this place a try.

After seeing the ad for Alys' in the local paper for years, we finally tried it and loved it! Fantastic food, charming ambiance and super friendly folks. They have a limited menu and extensive wine list, but everything was delicious! To fully appreciate the experience, you have to shed your expectations of a traditional fine dining experience. This is more like going to your favorite Aunt's house for dinner who happens to be a gourmet cook and talented wine collector. The place is literally a residential building. Walk in the front door of the house into a front room that houses a awesome (and great priced) wine collection, then you are seated in a modest but comfortable dining room. We were handed a wine list before a menu and then after the wine was poured, the server verbally shared the few entre options (no prices). I had the NY strip, my wife ordered the grilled tuna, and both were outstanding. No appetizers offered, but your meal comes with a choice of soup or salad. Nice dessert options. The vibe is definitely more private dinner party than commercial enterprise. The bill was startingly modest. Reservations are required, and Alys treats everyone like a personal guest whether you know her well or just met her. Enjoy!

Food was very good, generous, well priced, but unfortunately, the new hire didn't quite have it together yet. She was unfortunately all on her own for portion of our time there. The restaurant looks like a diner from the outside, but is fairly non-descript on the onside - ie. not very diner-like in appearance. However, I had a VERY tasty burger (ordered 'The Burger') with the standard set-up (lettuce, onion, pickles, tomato) and a side of (get this) sauteed broccolini! I like veggies and was absolutely thrilled to find more side offerings than the usual fried stuff. My burger and side veg were really good! The Hubs ordered one of the mac-n-cheese dishes and didn't seem thrilled with it, but said it was OK. They seemed a bit understaffed, but kept checking in with us to say that they'd be with us shortly. And they were. It wasn't a long wait. Maybe I should note that we were here mid-week around 1 PM or so. They didn't seem too busy, but this looks like it might be a small operation. Service was friendly and the restaurant was clean (including the restroom). I'd stop here again if I'm ever in the area.

I was up in Taos for Saturday and chose to stay upstairs of this restaurant for the night. This place is about 45 min from Taos proper. The upstairs studio was nice, and has nice views of the area. The property also has a hot tub, but I didn't use it. There isn't much out in Tres Piedras, but this place makes up for it. Also great view of the night sky. I spied a beautiful moon from upstairs. Dogs are allowed here and ample parking available. Ice also for sale here. Nice, outdoor patio space too. Staff here were really nice and I had 3 people constantly check in on me. I had a margarita and a beer and my total came to $8. Chips and salsa were on the house. It was also really wonderful to hang out on Saturday night to hear the live music. Gary Reynolds was the musician and he was excellent! They also had all sorts of fresh baked goods for sale, pies and even smudge sticks for sale here. Will have to give a try next time. There is also some really neat history about this building and worth learning the history about the place. I had a good time and definitely would come back.

I was hungry--on a camping trip--and hoping for some great Frito Pie...but as soon as the guac and chips showed up, I knew it was all going wrong. The chips were a few days too old, and the sad squeeze of store-bought guac tasted mostly of salt and oil. I was told the staff had "forgotten" to put the beer in the fridge, but helpfully (?) also provided a cup of ice to pour it over. I had not known we did that. When it eventually arrived, the Frito Pie had been sitting so long that the Fritos were soggy little flaps. The chili was just beans, no beef, and completely lacking in flavor--no cumin, no garlic, no tomato, nothing you'd reasonably expect. And either no red Hatch chile, or so little as to make no difference. It tasted like it came from a large can. The toppings, pale tomatoes and a few wisps of salad, didn't add anything. I'm not saying it's easy to make Frito Pie, but it's not rocket surgery. I've had it all over the state, and never mind SF Plaza-quality...this is hands-down the worst from Aztec to Zuzax.
