Finally made it to Del Toro after years of wanting to try it. My wife and I showed up without reservations on a Saturday night and had to wait about an hour. The bar was packed so we opted for a drink down the street while we waited for a text that our table was ready. No big deal since we knew they fill up quickly on the weekends. Once we were seated our server came right away for our drink and food order. They were attentive all night and we never had to ask for water refills. I had the piña picosa and Paloma for drinks - both delicious and would happily reorder. We both had some tacos - I had the carne asada, chicken and barbacoa - they were all really good flavor and portioned. Drinks are truly the specialty here - the margaritas were fantastic. Many have a spicy kick, which my husband loved. I loved the great selection of fresh margaritas that weren't overly sweet. We went on a Saturday night, and there was a bit of a wait. We appreciated that they take your number and text you when your table is ready so you can go to another local place for a drink while you wait for a table if you can't find a seat at the bar in Del Toro. I went with the jalapeño margarita and I loved it, but buckle up; she's spicy! It comes with half a jalapeño atop it, if you want to make it even spicer. They had a spacious patio, with lights as well as a tented area if the weather didn't cooperate. The group started with chips and salad, along with guacamole. It had Tajin on the rim and it was a perfect combo! My plus one and I decided on getting the tacos so we ordered carne asada, the shrimp, and al pastor tacos. Man I love Del Toro. It's a favorite place for a friend and I to meet up; it always is at the top of our list when we get together. Margaritas are amazing for real. I've gotten the light up one more than once and I have to remind you that if you have long hair, be careful! The place will start to fill up immediately upon opening, so you'll want to get there early or be prepared to wait a while. Last time I was there (which was admittedly pre-pandemic) they had a 90-minute table limit on Fridays and Saturdays (at least), so be aware of that as well. With your margarita you'll want to get some delicious food; this is the first place I ever had a sope and now it's one of my favorites. Service is usually great as well, not overbearing or annoying but fast-paced and ready to refill for you when you're empty. Can't go wrong with a stop at Del Toro. read more

Thankfully this is much better than shitty ass fast food. It also has stiff drinks . Last time here we each got a Del Toro Margarita. It's $12 for a pretty small one, about the only complaint. This is made with fresh sour lime, Orange Curaçao, and 3G Blanco tequila. It has lots of salt on the rim. That's not necessary with this already having the authentic salty taste. Skip the rim of salt. The food may be milder but you get stuff like street tacos. Get your choice of protein, or not. We had the Veggie Tacos. It's $4.75 each. These have cilantro, mushrooms, red peppers, squash, and tomatoes. Certainly on weekends it's busy. If you only come with a couple people often there's room at the bar and you won't have to wait long to drink and eat. Tacos are popular but they also have burgers and tortas. read more

What's so different about this place that makes me travel across the city for a burrito? For... street food? Well. It's like walking on a regular street if down Michigan Ave! The place is nice and service is great, but the food and ambiance make this an upscale food experience. . BUT... the food is not the only highlight of the place. They have concocted some of the BEST TASTING drinks known to man. Margaritas? They have 14 flavors. Beers? Yep, 21 to choose from. Whiskey? 9 to choose from. Tequilas? 23 white, reposado and añejo plus 31 extra aged / reserved... and tons of high quality mixed drinks. . Phew. That was a lot. Try the burrito, it's awesome. Try a margarita. We had heard good things about Del Toro and have been wanting to check them out for a long time. We wanted to sit outside, so we got there a few minutes after they opened on a Tuesday. There were already 3-4 tables seated, but their patio was huge and there would've been no problem being seated. There were plenty of tables even when we left around 6pm. We did not expect there to be such ample seating. The margaritas are the stars of the show! They were very good. I would definitely come back just for the margaritas. For food, I think we had the tacos and did not find them particularly remarkable. None of the tacos came with sauce, so the focus was the quality of the ingredients and how the proteins were marinated and prepared. But they weren't different or better than street tacos we've had elsewhere. The shrimp taco came with a good amount of shrimp. The fish taco was one of my favorites. The onion, cilantro, and lime were nice dressing... pretty standard but still appreciated. And the green salsa was good too. If the patio was dog friendly, we'd probably put Del Toro on a more regular rotation - for their margaritas and nice patio. However, the tacos were not very remarkable and a little pricey. Honesty this is my go to spot so I don't know if I can be unbiased. The margaritas are delicious! I recommend the sandia one, pepino, and their winter special blackberry rosemary. Food is yummy. Tacos de asada and camarón are my fave. The salsas aren't spicy at all though which is a bummer. The spicy (habanero) burger yum. Other tidbits: If you arrive early then it won't be a problem but otherwise there is usually a long wait even in winter time. Usually around 45 minutes. There are no reservations. Your whole party has to be there to get seated. You will be carded even if you're 80. Tables have a time limit of 1.5 hrs (even pre covid). Minors can be there before 9pm. I've been coming to Del Toro for over 3 years now and it never disappoints. The service is great and the tacos are authentic and tasty. I highly suggest trying the Pollo Adobado and Barbacoa tacos! Soooo good. Also, they have a great cocktail menu with tons of options for margarita flavors. The guacamole is also amazing and fresh. They have a mild and spicy version. Keep in mind that they do have a pretty limited menu. So if you're looking for enchiladas, quesadillas, empanadas, and things like that, you won't find it here.
