This is a great guys fishing shop. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the local fishing scene as well as fishing in general. They have great clothing for outdoor activities, carrying the top brands like Barbour which is high quality and hard to find. The higher retail prices mentioned in other reviews has more to do with the higher quality of the brands carried, their prices are in line with other small retailers for the same brands. The brands they carry will last a long time, so one pays more upfront but does not need to replace the item again, saving money over time. Single purchase is also a very sustainable friendly way to shop. But onto a review of the store, it isn't a place where you'll find fancy displays or wasted floor space but it certainly a place where you can find what you're looking for when you need things fishing, shooting or other outdoor recreation. They have hand tied flies, other flies, some other fishing products and they can help with learning. They carry high quality foot ware, outerwear, clothing (men's and women's) plus nice accessories. The shop is located on the Main Street in Hyde Park Square and is a great place for guys to hang out while your SO shops all over the Square. Walked into Delamere & Hopkins with no experience fly fishing. The owner or manager talked to me like an equal and taught me everything a beginner should know. Finally bit the bullet and got me a Barbour jacket. The service was very helpful and great! We even bought a D&H T-shirt but it became a crop top post wash. They begrudgingly exchanged it for another. But other than that, just be prepared to drop some coin if you wanna shop here. read more

I went in to look for some stuff to keep me warm on my bike through the fall and winter. This place is stocked not only with fly fishing gear, but tools to make your own flies. I got the impression that fly fishing is a secret brotherhood. I started looking around for obscure Masonic symbolism, or possibly an Illuminati seal tattooed on the hand of a clerk. I came up with nothing. I chatted up the clerk for awhile, waiting for some kind of slip up. Some way to break the code. It was easier than I expected. They offer fly fishing lessons. I browsed the clothes, most of which are very expensive. However, all of the stock is ultra quality. The clerk was overwhelmingly knowledgeable, and eager to inform. He set me up with a pair of especially awesome winter socks. You know, the kind that somehow make you cool in the summer, warm in the winter, will take you anywhere you want to go without complaining, do your laundry and your homework. I teetered for awhile, wondering if it wouldn't be smart to blow a lot of money on a couple ultra-quality jackets rather than buying lots of cheap stuff. I went with my usual decision. Cheap stuff. I walked out with only a pair of uber-socks and the lazy intention of returning for fly fishing lessons. read more

My husband's love affair with Delamere & Hopkins started after our trip to Oregon, where he first learned of the Filson brand. Upon returning home, we learned that this mythical, outlandishly-priced ranch wear was stocked at none other than the boutique just down the street from us! It was like a man's fairy tale come true. Since then, we have gotten into fly fishing. Who wouldn't after reading the tantalizing sandwich board signs usually perched outside the storefront? The workshop we signed up for through the store was incredibly thorough and fun. An instructor spends the day with four students, with plenty of personalized instruction. If I can learn, then anyone can. Of course, the workshop led to buying a fly rod and accoutrements. The store staff is very helpful and interested in learning about what you'll use the equipment for. The prices are expensive, of course (we bought our tackle box at Wal-Mart after viewing the $80 option from Delamere & Hopkins). But you will definitely get exactly what you need. So visit this fly-fishing paradise and have fun day-dreaming. Just beware that eventually you will end up spending more money than you'd like to admit. read more

I'll be honest, and preface this review: this place wasn't made for me and as such, I feel the need to judge on a curve. But, if you're that blue blood, old school, L.L. Bean, cabin-staying, hunting dog by the fireplace, fisherman kind of guy, this is totally your jam. They have all your field pants and heavy flannel shirts along with a great selection of quality gear and tackle. You'll walk out a real-deal throw back to what modern Pacific Northwest loving hipsters are trying to imitate. This outdoor outfitter would fit right in in Indian Hill, Montgomery, or Mariemont. Even if you are more of the lightweight mountain backpacking type person, this is a fun place to wander through. These kinds of one stop gentleman's shops seem to be a dying breed. The store carries men's and women's outdoor clothing and gear. You will find lots of Patagonia coats, hats, books, shirts, pants, and even socks. There are fishing poles galore and to go along with them lots of lines and lures. Some of the lures are kinda cute, they look like little animals made out of felt and feathers! They also have a book section with info on traveling and fly fishing. The store, interestingly enough, offer classes and guided trips. They offer an introduction to fly fishing, private fly fishing courses, and on stream seminars. The guided trips can be in the tri-state area or in the Bahamas, Argentina, or the American West. They had a tremendous amount of product. They feature all of the top lines for fly fishing. I went there for some dry flies and was very impressed with the overall selection. As for the pricing it does run on the high side, but thats what you get when you shop at boutiques. As for the customer service, it was definitely lacking. I had no one greet me at the door. There were 4 employees there who were just standing around at the counter laughing with each other. I did not see one of them helping any of the customers in store. It made the shopping experience lack. Other than that, the product line was great, but I don't know if I will shop here again. read more

Why is Cincinnati's only fly fishing outlet in the middle of ritzy Hyde Park Square? Apparently, fly fishing is the latest and greatest in hobbies for the rich and not so famous inhabitants of the surrounding area. Even if you are a novice to the sport and/or have no interest in it whatsoever, you will find plenty of treasures inside the Delamere & Hopkins store. I have ventured in here on a number of occasions with my boyfriend, who fancies himself an outdoors-men. I have personally been impressed with the selection of Patagonia fleeces (you don't have to be outdoorsy to appreciate a cute jacket!) and gloves/mittens/hats in the winter time. My bf loves the shoes that Delamere sales and often has on clearance in the back room. They have a huge selection of "all-terrain" footwear and rain-proof boots...perfect for fly fishing, I suppose, but just as good for hiking and camping trips! Prices are a bit outrageous at Delamere because of it's location, but everything appears to be extraordinarily high quality. Staff members are always trying to ask if they can help us find anything and even offered us fly fishing seminars once. read more

Great store in Hyde Park Square with a very tasteful offering of fine items for an outdoor sporting life. Their extensive line of Barbour apparel rivals Harrod's in London. It's a bit pricey, but you do get what you pay for. I like it. read more

I only wish I could give them a 10! Best customer service I have experienced in a long time, and I went there to see if I could have a Filson bag repaired that I had bought elsewhere. They immediately said that they would take care of it....never asked where it was purchased and never acted like getting it repaired was a burden. Luke and Chip were friendly, pleasant, and helpful. Took a beginner's fly fishing course with Luke on Father's Day. My brother and I were entirely new to fly fishing and my dad has had about six months of experience with the sport. We all had a fantastic time and by the end of the day we all were confidently casting into the little Miami. Luke was extremely informative and friendly, and most importantly a patient teacher. Definitely would recommend for anyone who has wanted to learn. read more

Okay, so Yelp describes 5 stars as "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" I'm not sure that my assessment means much in those terms because I have no fly-fishing guide experience with which to compare. Nevertheless, Ted took me and my son on a (long) day trip down to Elkhorn Creek near Frankfort to get us ready for a trip out west. We started early, got on the water around 9 am, returned the kayaks at 5 pm, and Ted hung with us to fish a little more. Ted was very informative and patient with our amateur skills. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and we actually looked like respectable fly-fishermen (I think) at the end of the day. Stop in and ask Ted for the true report card! As for the store, my son stops in all the time, and the guys are always very accommodating in sharing information. The customer service will be what keeps us coming back. I see the reviews on prices. I'd agree, but these guys aren't going to sell you junk, and their knowledge in helping you get what you need is worth the extra couple of bucks. read more
