Casinos dont all have to be Vegas status. Especially when the Racetrack is the highlight, and the slots are secondary. They seem to have new cool innovative slot games like the Michael Jackson slot, The Hangover, new progressives and cool bonuses which I havent seen before. I am a fan of the automatic dealer-less roulette game, 8 players sit with the wheel in the middle. The video dealer black jack and other card games is also pretty cool and not before seen. The big thing for me on a Sunday was Football! An entire betting room with seated booths, and tvs on each one, with massive screens playing every game. ( they feature one game on the big screen outside at the track) I got to watch a pretty amazing Bears game with screaming fans! Free coffee is great! The cons are that it all looks and feels a bit outdated, maybe thats what they are going for but some tables look stale. The food gets its own star, the paninis are amazing here. I have not tried the steakhouse upstairs though. All in all, a good place to spend a few hours. read more

Heart starts beating heavily as you approach the entrance blocked by a shady group out front waiting for their buses. Cherry oak wood, brass and the one glass chandelier hark of early 80's glamor. One gets the impression the casino has seen better days. Me and my gambling buddies assumed the payouts would be high and plentiful since money does not appear to be spent on the place. And we were wrong! LOL! There was a lot of action around the few tables on the main floor. It looked like back alley craps, to be honest, and I was expecting the cops to show at any minute - but wait! This is a casino! Slots for the most part were airtight. It would have been easier digging a screw out of cement than to try and wrangle a dollar from the penny machines. 2 cent and 5 cent machines were no different. Word to the wise: AVOID THE BIG WHEEL OF FORTUNE SLOTS ON THE MAIN LEVEL. The place, save for the bathrooms is filthy and reeks of smoke. It might be better during the day, but I doubt it. Highly. I was here briefly today. Had a meeting in the area. Stopped by for a look-see. Not a big gambler, but like to watch horses race. I was impressed. Very clean. Well maintained. I have been in some places that were quite run down. Not here. Also boasts a golf course with separate club house. The holes I saw from the road looked good. Not an extensive review, but for a quick trip in it compared well with places I have been elsewhere around then country of a similar type. I have to say, I like almost everything about this place. The slots are up to date, modern, colorful and seem to jangle enough money back at you to keep you happy- which is not easy. The table game limits, unlike some new rival casinos, are reasonable and accomodating, the poker room is excellent and well run. There is no seat charge for playing cards- at Charles Town by comparison, it's $12 per hour to play poker. This is not a giant casino, but it is bright and airy and there are even windows around. Be nice if it had he ocean nearby, but the racetrack is quite lovely, it was built by the DuPonts a century ago, and surely once was grand. The quality of the racing is pretty good. No sales tax when you buy stuff here- but to drive up from the DC area, you do get socked with a bunch of annoying tolls. Not the best group of horses and the jockey colony is going thru a bit of a rough spell, but for the past 10 years, the DE colony level of talent would rival that of New York racing. The facility and ambience, however, is what blows all other eastern tracks away. Free parking, free admittance, free seats. Easy to get a seat inside, outside, your own seat w/ a personal TV screen ($5), plenty of betting machines, good wagering format, bet right at your seat. Make your bet with 0 MTP at a terminal, be outside in 20 steps for the start of the race with a perfect view of the track and back to your seat in seconds. You can't do that anywhere else. Plenty of comps & incentives to loyal customers, friendly squirrels that will eat from your hand on the walk in, they even got their own theme song. They have just as many bobblehead and other giveaways as some of the bigger, more prestigious tracks. Also one of the few tracks that feature Arabian races. They've added sports betting too, which is a plus. A lot of faithful regulars with a few celeb look alikes, see if you can spot them when you're there. There's the 80s Kenny Rogers look alike, the Colonel Sanders look alike, you might even see GW Bush smoking a cigar outside. From a bettors standpoint, this place cannot be beat. You'll feel like you're in a upscale facility, you have it all to yourself and everything is set up for your betting convenience. If you're out for a leisurely day with the family, to picnic and see the horses, great place. If you're trying to get it in, do some serious handicapping and cash some tickets, nothing will stand in your way here, great for that too. read more

If you are a VIDEO poker player, stay away! Used to play in AC where the pay tables are decent (not as good as LV, but still OK). When DE went smokeless we tried out DE Park since we only live 15 minutes way, vs the 90 minutes to AC. In the beginning they were OK. Pay tables a little lower than AC, but not so bad. Then DE Park took out the best pay out machines, making the trip there less attractive. The final blow was when they changed the paytables on some of the machines so you had to put in twice as much money to "load" the machine to get the top jackpot. Oh, and the slot dollars (bounce back cash or whatever your casino calls it) cannot be used on video poker anymore because they consider video poker a game of skill. I am not aware of any other casino, except Ocean Downs in Ocean City Md (owned be the same person) that does that. So, we now drive and extra 20 minutes to the (smokeless) Hollywood Casino in Perryville, MD. Having more fun and winning more!! read more

I have no words to truly describe the poor and filthy condition of Rooney's Deli yesterday (June 30th). What is even more pitiful is I made a complaint and it fell on deaf ears. Patrons were bussing their own tables, there were no supplies and tables & floor were disgusting. The casino was busy, and they clearly were not staffed. I truly feel casino ownership is indifferent to casino patrons. This is not our first poor experience at the casino. On the Roll leaves a lot to be desired too. I went to the Delaware Park Casino website first to make my complaint but there was no place to contact or put in comments. It seems to me they really don't care, just keep giving them your money! If you want to lose your money and see around 300-500 sad people at the same place, go to this casino. I live near this casino, endedup going there almost twice a week for two years. I play for pleasure and kill time, but could never came back with money. The slot machines are designed to make you continue to play, win small amounts occationaly, and ultimately lose. They raise $1000 jackpots to around $1050-$1200, and I have seen old people spending $200s in trying to hit that $1000. After everyone loses their all of money, they give out the jackpot at midnight to someone. The jackpots are small, and never hit during peak hours/weekends but mostly hit at night. If you stay there for 2-3 hours and walk around both floors, you will hardly see anyone winning more than $100. Regarding atmosphere, this is not an entertainment place, but purely slot gambling place. You dont see even 1% of gamblers having smile on their face at this place. The place is surrounded by a kind of sadness I think because everyone always loses the money. It is considered a very big win if somebody hits $200+. I have noticed that I start with $100, and most of the time, I stay below $100 and never cross that border. read more

Worst Casino in the Tristate Area I enjoy shooting craps, but at this casino the dealers are extremely annoying. As a patron you just want to enjoy the game, but you have dealers making bird calls, dolphin sounds, and arguing with customers which is truly unprofessional. Hard to enjoy yourself. Dealers are suppose to place bets, take loses, and pay winners. I am not your friend, and I don't appreciate all of the distractions. Dealers need to keep conversations to a minimum, you are working. Ahhh...bright, flashy lights...dings, tings and bings...I am pretty much like Pavlov's dog when I walk into a casino. Been to Vegas and Atlantic City, both great places to gamble in. Lived in Phoenix until two years ago and visited the Indian casino's as well. All very nice places. I had driven past the enigma they call Delaware Park during trips to CostCo (another place where you can drop lots of coin....but at least there is a short-term return on your investment there) and had always wondered about gracing this place with my presence. My brother was in town and it was a great excuse to go check it out, so we did. It was a late Friday night and the moon was full. And when the moon is full, we all know what types of weirdo's come out at night. So we arrive to the casino (they have a race track there as well) and as soon as we pull into the parking lot, we already know we are in for a treat. The clientele strolling through the parking lot pretty much sums up this venue of entertainment and who they market to - those who can't afford the drive or bus ticket to Atlantic City but seem to have enough money left over from pay day to take their chance with Lady Luck. The parking lot in itself is a gamble. Thank goodness it is well lit, or you might worry about getting shived, because it is a long walk to the front door from your car and I really don't think I would trust the valet in this joint. The Park is not a fancy place, but you do get the feel for being in a casino with all of the slot machine activity going on. It smells, carpets are brown and stained of spilled beverages, etc. There was an upstairs area, but we never made it up there. As we make our way through the casino, you get your fair share of "wife-beaters", females with outfits that they really don't fit into and spill out all over the place and not very attractive waitresses who are schlepping free carbonated beverages for meager tips. Needless to say, we're not that impressed and decide it is time to at least make this trip worthwhile and purchase a frothy brew. Finding a watering hole in this joint is almost like finding a needle in a haystack. We walked around most of the joint before finding "it". So we saddle up and ask Mandee for a couple beers. She obliges and proceeds to open the bottles we requested and then pour them in a plastic cup. I'm certainly not opposed to drinking from a plastic cup if the beer comes from a keg, but if there is a bottle, hand it over. Maybe the management is worried that if glass gets out on the floor, inappropriate activity that would involve law enforcement may break out. So we accept our beers only to find that they have the temperature range of slightly cooler than room temperature. Completely not acceptable for a beer right out of the cooler and for the price we paid for them. Unfortunately for Mandee, her tip suffered due to this unpleasant experience. As for the gaming, we did find some electronic blackjack tables which sport a large screen and a video of a female with huge, fake tits that pretended to acknowledge your existence. They seemed nice enough, but all they really wanted was your hard earned money. It was hard to get in on one of the tables, but after watching people play, it was determined that playing blackjack in this fashion would probably cause us to lose a lot of money. Hell, you lose enough to a real dealer, why let something computer generated give you a moral beat down. We did manage to play on what looked like a real roulette table and lost $20 each. Then along with our disappointment, we left the building with Elvis and left with absolutely zero chance of ever returning again. This place really sucks. read more

I had the dubious pleasure of visiting this pit last night. It is in seedy shape, and the employees are horrendous. Upon leaving the place at about 11 PM (after having a decent night on the tables) I met a valet parker named Matt Bain. I asked Matt about getting a cab and he looked me in the eye and said "don't you have a smart phone?" I thought he was joking because no one in any type of hospitality job would ever utter those words. So I confirmed that he just asked that and he smugly looked at me and said "I did. Are you telling me you really don't have one?" I hope this young man follows a career path that leads him into a private cubicle somewhere because he has no business talking to customers. What a nightmare! Tried the roulette wheel the dealers are fairly decent, yet tonight May 25, 2011 they must have put a dealer on that did not Know the game. I played on the corner of six which hit then the dealer, which knew little english proceeded to remove the chips that I was not playing from the rail, after myself and the whole table caused a commotion she returned my chips and was about to take away my bet on six and pay on 4-5 and the three. Is this for real, can anyone be that stupid numbers are numbers, look at the screen to see what you are supposed to pay. When a pit boss or manager was requested I was informed that anyone can make a mistake, trying to pay the wrong number, not paying the right and also trying to take non-played money from the rail not even near a number I cashed out and proceeded home where I called D.P. and requested a manager at this point they listened and said they would review the tape and get back to me, famous last words, after 30 min. I called back and they informed me someone would call me in 15 minutes it has now been over 2 hours from my first contact and no reply. I can only feel that they do not value their customers and will condone anything that the dealers do to take your money. So if you go to DP watch your money and watch your dealer because they will try to take your money with out you even playing. read more

I used to like this place, but witnessed a really bad experience Sunday Aug. 26. I was playing craps at one of three tables open, and finally after 2 hours one of the players was having a pretty good roll. We started getting some of our money back, then the boxman started harrassing the shooter. A couple of times the shooter accidently hit the mirror along the inside wall of the table, and the boxman got all over him about it. Hitting the mirror had absolutely nothing to do with him having a good roll, but when he accidently hit it a third time the boxman threw a fit, stormed over and got the pit boss, and they took the dice away from the shooter. The only purpose in that was to stop a shooter who was having a good roll. They make plenty of money from these tables; there was absolultely no excuse for his really bad behavior, as well as for the pit boss backing him up. At that point, most people at the table just left the casino. I stayed a while longer, but it put a pall over the whole gaming experience for the afternoon. I find that the Pennsylvania casinos personnel are much friendlier and far more professional than this place. read more

I live in Maryland and visit casinos around my area at least once or twice a month. Yes, I have the gambling "bug" but can afford to do so and also know my limit. I frequent Charlestown, Dover, Midway/Harrington, Perryville, Ocean Downs, and a few in PA. I can honestly say that Delaware Park is, by far, my favorite. It may not be the closest but, for me, it has paid me well and more often than any of the others. The food in the 1st floor deli can't be beat. The real turkey/hot pannini sandwich is to die for! I have won two nice almost jackpots in the past few months (one for $1600.oo and one for $1250 - both on quarter machines). The best time to play, for me, has been Friday and/or Saturday evenings after 9. AND Monday evenings between 6-9pm. I don't play the horses or the tables but highly recommend this place for the slots. For me it is the best in the area!!!!!! read more

horrible, horrible horrible... I went there to celebrate my bday, Nov. 13 Sunday night was there all night and was stalked by floor attendants and guards the whole time. I must have made the wrong gesture or ticked one of the attendants but I was definitely watch like a hawk the entire time. And when my machine broke down(twice) the two attendants , whom I flagged down , were very rude and and unproffessional, no acknowledgement of any sort. This was harrassment in its biggest form. may i remind you that your machines will not operate on their own without inserting some hard earned dollars in them? read more

Today my wife, my sister, my brother-in-law and myself had lunch at The Terrace. We all then went to do some gambling. I was doing good and then I got a soda to take to my wife. I then cashed out on my machine. Turned around and went to find my wife. She was just a short distance away. When I got to her I realized I did not take my cash out slip. I immediately went back to my machine and my slip was gone. I then quickly tried to find a security person. He (Marc Burns) called in what just had happened. He continued to update and reassure me that they would do whatever it tool to get my money back. Our entire party waited for 1/2 to 3/4 hour. Then I went back to the downstairs Security Office to tell them I was going back to my daughter's home. They took my wife's and my cell phone numbers. I got home and had no confidence that they would be able to retrieve my money and find the person who took and cashed my ticket. We were not home very long when I received a phone call from Marc advising me they had my money. I want to thank everyone involved today and say the security there is terrific, Jim working the security window was very helpful. I think most senior citizens should be aware of the safety at Delaware Park.Living in Florida we travel a lot and visit casinos all over the country,but Delaware Park is one of our favorites. Pretty nice place to watch the races or play $10 table games. At least you get your own TV at your seat to watch and HEAR the races.....Unlike the "ZOMBIE TRACK" of Pimlico where there is only silence and no race calls anymore during the non-live racing there....Delaware Park is an hour away, but it is worth the drive. A nice family like atmosphere during the live racing meet, and even friendly squirrels to greet you in the grove.... read more

The best racetrack on the East Coast, for my money at least, other than the six weeks that Saratoga is open. Unlike Saratoga, Delaware Park is rarely crowded -- alas. It is an underappreciated track, I'm not sure why. The live racing season is now over for this year, the shortest meeting they have run in a long time. Fields get small late in the season; that is the biggest strike against Delaware. But the racing surface is fair and honest, the saddling paddock is the most beautiful in America (sorry, Keeneland!), and the people working at the track are mostly friendly. Several major racing stables keep a division at Delaware, so each year there are a couple especially good young racehorses. There are three floors; the beautiful outdoor Grove area, where families picnic regularly; an excellent trackside restaurant; a ton of simulcasting available.... and then there is also the casino, if you like that action. Built by the DuPonts in the '30s, this racetrack has character and amenities few can match, and one day it deserves to host the Breeder's Cup. I hope they are working on that! It also has Rich Glazier doing race previews on each and every race, and Rich is not only a pro, but also has a few helpful points to make on any card. read more

What a " Rip-Off " This casino is close to my home and my wife and I are just - Thrilled- to throw away our money . I being a diabetic I need my sugar fix every so often so I normally bring a cup of ice and a little soda for my weak spells,I've been doing this for years . As we arrived this evening a DUMPY FAT LITTLE JERK, GREGG GAYMOR pushing his authority told us that we could not enter with our cups and that we would have to dump out our cups or put them back in the car, it's was pouring like hell and parking is terrible at this pit. He also said that we must buy any beverage from the track. Hell it's bad enough to get ripped off on their machines but they want to get you to pay for soda , which are complimentary at the other Delaware tracks. After he threatened us with being BARRED from the track forever we did dump out our cups and the Fat little bastard still threw us out . I believe that he did touch my wife's left arm as she was walking away from him but I was not able to see him do it , if I did I would show him what an old disabled combat veteran could do to a dumpy fat jerk. read more

Delaware park is not governed by a gaming commission as in NJ but by a lottery. The pit bosses are dealers from AC that looked to be promoted although most are far from qualified. I have literally watch them change and make rules during a game. The rules between shifts vary too. To deal there you must have all 10 fingers because they need them to count. You better be experienced enough to know the odds and your money return upon winning. There comps are terrible and the pit bosses may be able to get you a tissue if your need can be seen. As far as the slots go, the machines are so tight and there might be 4 in the whole place with a guarantee percentage pay out. You will surely get the feeling they are there to take your money. Most are so tight it's hit big or lose ,very little payout action to allow play time. There slot dollar incentives you receive are terrible compared to most casino's. Incentives should at least cover gas to get there. Since January the restructured them by more than half. They do provide free coffee and soda but be prepared to pay a dollar tip if you want the service. I must say Legends Restaurant is good food for the location but over priced. Lets say it's good en ought for the money if the service was that of a gourmet rest. It's diner service for gourmet food. I play poker professionally so I have seen many a casino. The gimmick tables such as 3 card and 4 card poker are just that. They have auto shufflers for black jack. It reduces your odds. They may have one or 2 tables with a shuffled shoe. Craps is the best run game in the place . Dealers know the game and players that go there are very knowledgeable. Overall if you want to piss your money away counting on pure luck, go have fun. If your gambling large and looking for high roller returns drive to AC or fly to Vegas. read more
