For the past three months the power has been out in one section of our tiny condo in San Jose. We had another electrician come out to view our problem, but they could not find it and said they would recommend removing a portion of our wall and ceiling to check the wiring which may have shorted somewhere in between. Also, it would be $85 an hour, not including parts to do the job. Since neither of us had time to deal with the issue due to work schedules, we put it off. Now that we're in contract to purchase another property and plan to rent this unit, we needed to repair the electrical. I contacted a recommended electrician from a list composed by a Realtor who created "The Northside Yellow Pages" (which is where we plan on moving). Dean Pappas of Pappas Electrical showed up at the agreed upon time, was friendly and courteous, and carefully, but quickly, checked all of our outlets and switches. He was thorough and found an outlet that I didn't even know existed by moving our heavy dresser. That was the culprit which he managed to fix in no time at all! Simply amazing. It took a good two hours or so to go through our cluttered place (remember we're still packing for our move) and make the repair. No walls or ceilings were torn out thankfully and he charged a small flat fee for the service call. If I could select more than 5 stars, I would. People like Dean Pappas are worth more than their weight in gold for the excellent and reliable services they provide.

When I described the work I wanted done and cost he replied very smugly; "I charge $225.00 an hour, so you tell me how long it will take!".... Are you kidding me! Who says that to a customer! It's his job to know how long and how much! This gave me a bad feeling of dishonesty and untrustworthiness so I went with another electrician. Duane was polite and thoughtful in his explanation, never talking down to me, even though I did not possess an equal understanding of the technical process he clearly was in command of. When I tried to rush myself, feeling I was imposing and taking too much of his time, he calmly assured me it was important to him that I understood what I was asking for, and how it may not best serve me as a viable solution. In fact, to the contrary of a solution, what I sought to install may be instead *counterproductive, and he explained "Why it would be so" pragmatically. Duane identified alternative solutions which were superior, far better suited for my specific circumstance. The solutions however didn't require a electrician, rather, HVAC mechanics. Duane was selfless in his service approach, rather, instead thinking of what I really needed in a practical solution, more so, than what omnipresent part he could play in providing " His service for a fee". He proved himself not only knowledgeable, but also to be a truly honest, altruistic, service professional who's pragmatic and thoughtful nature really helped me to identify the correct solution to my problem, despite it costing him a payday. You do not get this high quality service and professional integrity in many folks these days. Duane is a valued member of our community, who has a technical knowledge and a humble disposition, making him an ideal 1st contact and professional resource when needing to ask questions and be educated on the electrical service you are attempting to contract. I sent a text message to Rebecca and reintroduced myself, asking if Duane installed appliances and if he was coming our way today. When I booked the appointment, unfortunately someone had forgotten to tell me they had a charge for coming out and giving a quote. At the end of the appointment, my husband paid the fee. I was upset not because of the fee, but because it had not been disclosed at the time of my appointment. When I called the office, Mary was extremely patient and said she would look into what had happened and would have someone get back with me that day. In this day and age when so many people make excuses or don't follow through, I was not optimistic. I am happy to say that I received a call back quickly from Carrie and they offered to use the money towards the future work on our home or return the money and apologized for the miscommunication. Integrity is everything to me and this was handled with so much professionalism and respect. Well, that was on a Saturday, and I was pretty scared that we had a potentially dangerous situation, so I called a few electrical companies. Power Pros answered their phone that Saturday morning. They came out that day. Thane looked in our attic and found that lots of the wiring, including the wiring in our family room was improperly done and dangerous. It was the wrong type of wire, the wrong types of connections, etc. He gave us a quote to repair the wiring in the family room before he left, which we accepted and he fixed it that day. He also later gave us a quote to redo the rest of the shoddy wiring, which he subsequently did for us a few weeks later. Power Pros saved me from having to worry about the safety of my family, and from a possible bad situation that weekend. Since then we have hired Power Pros to install other light fixtures at our home, and do some work at my workplace. Power Pros is the first one I call whenever I need any electrical work done. I called Tom after 9:00pm and left a message. Tom replied to me via text not 15minutes later with some trouble shooting tips and then followed that up with a call and apologized to me for not taking the call in the first place.
