From the outside, this restaurant is tucked away from the street, hidden, and rather unassuming. Inside, it's a warm and intimate cafe with whimsical chandelier and flower festooned ceiling and the Hindi alphabet emblazoned on a black granite wall. The lamb vindaloo was appropriately (and surprisingly) spicy, the chicken curry flavorful and not overly heavy, and the paneer makhani was very filling. Service even near the end of the evening was attentive. This is a delightful cafe that has more than the outside would indicate. Worth checking out. read more

Love the brunch here! I always come for a friends birthday, with a big group of people and the food always hits. I love sharing a bunch of the little apps and getting mostly full on them before ordering my entree - the spinach puri and chole. So yummy!!! Also love their desserts and $3 mimosas (pro-tip: can ask for mimosa to be made with guava juice instead of orange juice!!) Service is always friendly and helpful. This place is a hidden gem! Spice Kraft is where people usually go for Indian happy hour, but THIS is where you should actually go. Happy hour every weekday from 4-6 PM. The lassis are all great - my favorite is the rose or mango. We also got the delicious samosa chaat, which my friend said may have been the best chaat she's had. The place is more authentic than Spice Kraft and the food is better. Get the garlic naan here. We also got the paneer makhani, which was sweeter and ok. Had dinner here on a Tuesday. Only one other table was occupied but I was early at 5pm, I ordered the Tiffin special which was plenty for one person. 3 dishes plus rice and naan. All were very good. My recent visit to Delhi Dhaba was a treat! Right on a corner in court house, it was delicious with charming ambiance. The happy hour offer a selection of appetizers that comes with a beer of your choice. The samosas, served in a cute metal bike presentation, were a delightful start to our meal. I opted for the "Create Your Own Tiffin," which allowed me to sample two different chicken entrees and a vegetarian entree, stacked in cute metal stacking containers, all served with rice and naan. This option is perfect for solo diners like me who crave variety without having to order multiple entrees. The Chloe was simply delicious, although I did end up with leftovers to take home--it was worth every bite and I look forward to having it tomorrow for lunch. Delhi Dhaba has charming flower arch decor and colorful decorations scattered throughout the restaurant, making it engaging to look around. This review is for brunch only as I haven't had it for dinner. A word of caution: this isn't a typical brunch buffet and if you are bringing Indian parents like my in laws that are expecting that they will have questions and more questions because Indian parents aren't too fond of change when it comes to food. For my part and my husbands part, we loved it. Hits: - gol gappa is totally perfect with authentic tasting pani - fries are true masala fries with Maggi sauce which is spicy but perfect with their fabulous chai - samosas are authentic perfection with a crisp crust and actually hot and flavorful green chutney -- you can taste the mint and cilantro. - Palak chaat was actually a fave for everyone at the table, classic chaat textures and flavors - Aloo paratha: actually filled!! So many places give you some thin AF layer of potatoes inside, this was lovely. Filling had actual flavor as well. - Lamb vindaloo: good but spicy! Authentic Indian spicy - Saffron French toast: the saffron syrup Makes the dish, but ask for more as the initial portion isn't enough - Chole puri: my in laws enjoyed. Good option for those who are more traditional with their food. Misses: - Deviled eggs and koftas a bit blah and flavorless - Avocado toast had too many topping which made the bread get mushy. Nothing uniquely Indian about it. Not a fave. This is Indian food made by and for Indians and it shows in the quality and authentic flavors. I walk by here pretty often and it always smells really good. My friends and I stopped by last week for dinner and we had a pretty good experience. The service was good and the interior was clean with nice decor. Between the three of us, we ordered a garlic naan and three entrees. FYI -- if you want the biryani, I'd try to order it ASAP because it takes them awhile to make it. GARLIC NAAN - 3.95 Each order comes with four quarter slices which were super fluffy and full of garlic and herb flavor. So good and the perfect base for the sauce/curries from our entrees. I'd recommend and would always pay extra for garlic naan over the regular one. PALAK PANEER - 17.95 One of the better palak paneers in the area. It was so vividly green, which meant they actually blanched their spinach correctly without letting it turn into a green-brown shade I sometimes see. The texture was so creamy and pureed perfectly. The chunks of paneer were delicious and had the perfect, soft texture. I also really liked that the palak paneer had a distinct spinach taste. Overall, definitely my favorite entree we got here. CHICKEN VINDALOO - 18.95 My friends wanted this to be extra spicy even though it is spicy to begin with. The chicken was super tender and the kashmiri chili and garlic sauce was super flavorful and packed with spices. I didn't eat too much of it because my spice tolerance isn't that good, but my friends enjoyed this a lot. DUM LAMB BIRYANI - 26.95 This biryani is different because the rice was slow-cooked and baked in a clay pot, covered with a piece of super fluffy garlic naan. To eat the rice, you have to break open the naan. The rice was very fragrant and there's actually saffron pieces in there. The lamb pieces were good and tender. Overall, there were spices in this biryani I've never had in other biryanis. I'd say it had a really nutty, almost cashew like flavor that was pretty strong. I thought it was unique and different. This was expensive, but worth trying once. The prices here are pretty steep, but that's Arlington for you. I definitely would recommend the palak paneer if you're a fan. The biryani was a unique experience, too, and worth a try. read more

BLUF: We came for the Instagram famous butter chicken wings and left disappointed. Nestled in an alleyway in Arlington, the ambience is warm and welcoming. Parking is a headache, though, so be prepared to circle the block. Service was polite, but could have been more attentive. The wait for our food was unacceptable at 45 minutes for an order of butter chicken wings and the tandoori platter. The wings were almost inedible. We were not expecting them to be breaded, but even so they were soft, mushy, lukewarm and tasted nothing of the butter chicken we were expecting. I don't know if they sat there in the sauce for awhile before being delivered to our table, but any crisp on them was long gone. Our tandoori platter consisted of three meats on a bed of peppers and onions. It was okay. The lamb kabob was overcooked and tough to chew. The chicken tikka and the tandoori chicken were the only redeeming things we ate -- good flavor, but dry. Essentially what we wanted to be moist was dry and what we wanted to be crispy was mush. It's always disappointing when a long wait is punctuated with an underwhelming meal. I cannot speak to the rest of their menu, but our experience today left me unimpressed. read more

I was craving Indian food on my trip to Washington DC. I decided to give Delhi Dhaba a try. I called to make a reservation. My call was answered very quickly and I was able to secure a reservation. Upon entering the restaurant I was greeted by a very friendly host and the amazing aroma of the food got me very excited for my meal. My wait was short and I was immediately escorted to seat. The food was awesome! I ordered the lamb chops and some kebab. The food was cooked to perfection and tasted amazing. For the mains I had some chicken makhni, saag chicken. All were great. Lastly I had some gulab jamun for dessert. It was the perfect ending and not too sweet like other restaurants. During my meal the server was very attentive. Food was quick to come out and the whole experience was great. I would highly recommend Delhi Dhaba to anyone visiting Washington DC. Great job guys! read more

This is definitely a hidden gem for brunch. The restaurant is kind of in the cut so you have to enter on the side of the building. We had a 1230 reservation and there were no other customers there when we got there. Seemed pretty odd for a Saturday brunch but then again it's the holiday season, it was freezing outside and many people may not even know the spot exists. The food was good and the service was great. After about an hour and a half a few more people started rolling in, but in total there was still maybe 10 customers including us. The staff was very attentive and the food was very flavorful. Our least favorite items on the menu were the potato balls that looked like meatballs and the French toast. I probably should've known better than to order French toast, but I love French toast. But unfortunately they didn't get it right. But everything else was solid. If the service wasn't as good, I probably would've given them three stars, but I really enjoyed my time here. Finally tried this restaurant after having two friends recommend it. As an Arlington local myself I wasn't sure what to expect because I haven't found a good Indian spot in my neighborhood that I like. However, Delhi Dhaba was delicious. I came with my parents and we ordered the Vegetable Pakora, Samosa Chaat, Malai Kofta, Vegetable Korma, Garlic naan and Onion Kulcha. Everything was tasty and the spice level was perfect (we didn't ask them for extra spicy or anything, just as is). Only reason I'm giving four stars is because the server took some time to help our table but once the order was in, the service was quick and efficient. The restaurant is decorated so cutely with the Hindi alphabet on the wall. Something I haven't seen before, different and interesting. Next time I come I want to try the pani puri! read more

Delhi Dhaba came to our driving picnic rescue - with hot and spicy masala fries, crisp pakoras, and a lassi that was sugar, spice and just right. 10/10 would do this again. Why not a 5 star? The entrees tended to disappoint us the last time we ordered in. However, the ambiance was cute and fun, and I might consider dining in some time, especially since they truly delivered on flavor with the masala fries and the smoky spicy ketchup side. This place was a really fun place to eat. There were only 2 of us so we could only get so many menu items. I'd be interested in going back to try more! We got the puri cart which was sooooo delicious. I liked the idea of the lassi sampler, we really did not like the salty lassi, but that's just personal preference. I liked the rose one most and my friend liked the mango one. We also got the lamb biryani (not pictured). I loved how it came with a garlic naan over the top. We also shared the chaat burger which I saved for my husband because it came with ketchup (I really dislike ketchup lol) they did have the ketchup listed on the menu but I thought it was just on the side. He really liked it. It took a really long time to get our check but I think it's probably a cultural thing (letting you take as long as you want). We just had to flag our waiter down and it was done. Excellent food, quick service, and the restaurant is nicely decorated and clean. I've been there twice and so far I've tried the fried paneer, chana masala, palak paneer, dal makhani, Bindi masala, and the roti. All were delicious. The gol gappa cart was so cute and also delicious - we ate that so fast :) the tiffin box was really yummy and the variety was nice. We got the garlic naan, two butter chickens & palak paneer. The only critique here is that the butter chicken was a little sweet, but the other items in the tiffin box were great! My personal favorite was the achari chicken burger, which I already can't wait to order again! The spice level on it was so perfect and the masala fries were yummy. The rasmalai and gulab jamun were so good - they were just sweet enough and so fresh! The outside patio is super cute and very well decorated. my friends and i sat outside and it was so nice! The service was literally amazing, we were checked up on regularly and made sure that we had enough water, which I personally really appreciated. The waitress was very nice and gave us a lot of recommendations as it was our first time at this restaurant. The food is pretty fairly priced for the area, quality and quality of the food! We've now come back a few times and for the Courthouse/Clarendon area, I think Delhi Dhaba is better than some of the other Indian options in the area. The food is consistent, the service is friendly, and Id' recommend eating there rather than ordering takout. We love the butter chicken, paneer makhani, and chicken tikka masala.
