Beware of this place. Not only did I get a terrible ingrown toenail infection that has lasted months on and off, but when I initially returned (because I loved my manicures) and told them about the painful experience, they weren't apologetic in the slightest. Instead, they asked if a certain person had done it and when I said I wasn't sure, they told me that that's been happening with many of her customers. First time visit for a pedicure with Annie (the no-polish pedicure as I am taking a polish break for the winter), scheduling online was easy and I like salons that have that option. It was quite busy at 10:30 on a Thursday morning, so I'm glad I booked the night before! The only part that was NOT comfortable was the pedicure bench/chair itself: I am 5'9" (which I don't think is all that tall?) and my legs were at an uncomfortable angle while my feel were soaking and being worked on. Another 3-4" to stretch would have been perfect, so if you are taller than me, take note! Outside of the seating situation, Annie got my feet ready before a full pedicure in April and tamed my cuticles which were looking rough (literally and figuritively). Let me start by stating the positive: the very best nail technicians work here. Everyone I've had the pleasure to be acquainted with does a meticulous job. However, management must address the inventory of the polish. The past 1/2 dozen times I've been, my go-to color (Rose Quartz Dazzle Dry) remains unavailable and many of the available polishes are old and no longer good quality. I was looking for a place to do a gel mani with extensions and a design on 10 fingers. PureLuxe said they couldn't do gel + extensions but could do dip powder + extensions and I said that was fine. The website approximates this to be $66 (including the simple design on 10 fingers). However it turned out to be $74, and with a 20% tip this ended up being $88 total. This is a lot, even for a salon in an expensive area like Newton. Furthermore this included a scheduling inconvenience where my appt was at 10:30 am and they asked me to come back at 1 pm. However, the manicure I received was beautiful. Seems like it will be indestructible due to the use of both dip powder and UV gel for the design. The inside of the salon was gorgeous and modern, very large and clean as well. Little wait time since I had the reservation. Ample parking in the lot. Found this place on the search to get my eyebrows done. I am one who usually gets them threaded but figured I'd try to get them waxed. They did a great job shaping them without me having to ask. I walked in and saw all of the nail polish and instantly knew I'd have to get my nails done here too. Upon looking around I saw that they did ombré powder dip manicures, something I've been dying to get done. I asked if they were busy today, since it was a Saturday I never thought they'd take me as a walk in but they accommodated me right away! I have been getting dip for a while, but recently stopped because my last two dip manicures were awful and my nails cracked within a week so I took a break. (Not from this salon, from another) My manicurists name was Kim. She was AWESOME. She took her time on every nail making sure they were all perfect. I really like that she matched my fingers to the opposite hand to make sure they're the same length because not a lot of salons do this. I could not be happier with my results. I also got 10% off using a first timers yelp coupon! They even have a sign in kiosk so you get 5$ every 5 points or something like that. Very nice people, but especially for the prices I wouldn't go back. The pedi benches are not comfortable, nor are the manicure chairs' height if you're 5'4 or under. The quality of the pedi was good, but the powder Mani left much to be desired (see pics) aside from the fact that my cuticles really weren't cleaned up. I've NEVER had Mani where my fingers weren't soaked. I even asked and she said they don't do that for gel powder, but I've always had it elsewhere. I had gotten a spray tan earlier and the woman doing my pedicure poured water on my legs so I kept saying "no" and "stop" and "I got a tan" and she KEPT doing it and washing my legs. Then she came back with a hot towel. So I was pissed. My gel on my hands and feet were already off and it took her two hours to do a mani-pedi with the gel already off. I don't know the name of the ladies that did hers. My pedi and gel mani were done by Van. She rushed through mine, she was very robotic and it felt like she did not want to be doing this at all. My gel mani is awful. Full of bumps and uneven color. I have never seen a worst gel mani in my life, on anyone. It is not a cheap place, and to get this result, is simply disgusting. Went based on website postings and reviews because I just moved to the area. Everyone was very pleasant when I went, I booked a refill of acrylic and COMPLICATED design appointment before going. When getting them done everything was going really well, until the design came. Looks nothing like my reference photo, the hands don't match, the colors aren't the same, and the end result is not worth the price I paid. I'm a longtime Miniluxe customer but I think I've found a new nail salon. I stopped in at PureLuxe this afternoon and they had great service, excellent prices, and the selection of polishes I so miss since Miniluxe switched to their store brand. I believe my service was $12 cheaper here than it would have been at MiniLuxe and I didn't give up anything on cleanliness or quality. This place is tucked back from the street, just behind the mattress store on Needham Street so you have to look for it, but it is definitely worth it.
