Love this place. Great Wall of NYS products. I primarily buy liquor but when I want to buy wine they give me great advice!

Ok. This review is so long overdue and for what it's worth, there are lots of ridiculous 1 star…read morereviews from people for petty reasons. Let's just get that out of the way. I've been to every liquor store, but we live in strange times and I stopped at that high volume spot by the red bullseye and they were selling Buffalo Trace for $70 and Eagle Rare for $90. Fortaleza Blanco (though they didn't have any) was in the locked cabinet! They had Blantons for $170. Why would anyone shop at a place taking advantage of people. Which brings me to my point. This is a family owned and operated business in a tiny space. If you spend a little time talking to them like people, they have terrific recommendations at pre-Covid prices! Could they charge more? Yes. But you have to respect a business that isn't gouging the local customer even with bourbon and now tequila hunters ruining it for the common person who's not looking to flip booze on the secondary market for twice the price. I walked in. Need a case of mixed wines averaging $15 a bottle. Boom. Terrific selection and everyone enjoyed the tasting. Looking for this bottled-in-bond. Let me write it in my book. Boom. On the shelf. No Fortaleza? Any recommendations. Boom. Verify good. Not quite as good, but a SOLID substitute. Today. I said thanks for the recommendation. Still haven't seen my tequila in a year. "Hold on he says." Boom. Brings me a bottle from the back. $55. Not the $129 I'm seeing online. They have a solid inventory for a small shop. But hands down. Without a doubt. The best prices in the region.

I needed to update this as after having lived here 2+ years this is definitely the best liquor…read morestore in the Capital Region that I have found (considerably nicer than Empire Wine, and also with extremely knowledgeable staff.) The buyers (lead by the commanding matriarch, Sheila) have excellent taste -- they never give you a bad recommendation. The staff picks are definitely worth trying. And, for those seeking upscale wines, this is the destination in the Region. (Great selection of sparkling, whereas the sparkling at Empire is exceedingly thin.) If you want a particular wine they will get it for you. They do a good variety of hard liquor, but it's pretty clear that people come here because of the excellent wine selection, It's a very pleasant place to shop. If you aren't from Bethlehem it's worth the trip -- this store makes Slingerlands a destination.

I found a lovely Portuguese red blend for $9, that was 25% Syrah, but ended up going wonderfully with a -- yep -- delicate pork tenderloin. Some reviews I found indicated the staff were neither friendly nor helpful, I found them to be both welcoming and helpful! They have quite a collection, including a rare Scottish' whiskey that is from am island to the west of Scotland. I hope others give them a try.

One of the most depressing stores I've visited…read more I recall once stopping in here two years ago; I recall buying Calvados brandy and gave them points for having that. They seem to have an ample amount of hard liquor. I do remember being skeevied out about the store. I so dislike the nearby Wine Reserve with it's thin, unimpressive stock at severely inflated prices --with an exceedingly rude staff adding insult to injury-- that not in the mind to loop through Delmar to Slingerlands I thought I've give this a try as I wasn't in the mood to drive down Feura Bush, up Elm and Cherry, to take 104 and then 85 N to get to the only actually good liquor store in the Town of Bethlehem. The store has a huge amount of inventory --undrinkable inventory. It is about 99.8% plonk that I'd never drink -- even if served at a public function when you expect the wine to be mediocre. But, as you traverse the crowded aisles you are struck by the dank smell, the old stained carpet and the inescapable sense that you have really, really, really dropped your standards being in this store. They carry all the cheapest brands, the kind of wine that you drink solely to get drunk because you are indifferent to wine as a beverage. Walking around you are also struck by how dirty the place is, and an uneasy feeling about who you might encounter in the cramped, narrow aisles. I identified the worst possible French, the worst possible Italian, the worst possible California, the worst possible Northwest, the worst possible Argentine, the worst possible Australian and New Zealand wines. Of course the New York wines (let's face it, NYS does not produce great wine) were the bottom of the barrel (pardon the pun.) And then, I found one singular wine that was decent -- a Spanish albarino. It was about $2 more a bottle than the excellent liquor store in Slingerlands, but it didn't require driving an additional seven miles so I gave in and bought it. Of course, the salesman fit the store: while looking unpleasant I didn't imagine he was security. It seemed unlikely he'd rip himself from the television to which he was glued in order to give pursuit if someone attempted to bolt from the store with a $7 bottle of wine. Suffice it to say, no matter how much you want a drink, this is a place to avoid.

An incredible disappointment. The location is great: nice strip mall, ample convenient parking…read more Easy in and out. The physical store is lovely: clean, well lighted, great shelving. The Inventory is severely limited. Examples: only four French white burgundies (e.g. Chablis; aka Chardonnay.) All mediocre: no Macon, no Puilly Fuisse, no Premier Cru, no Grand Cru. An equally disappointed array of Red Burgundies; a thin selection of Bordeaux. Astonishingly they do (did) carry a suburb French rose (Tavel.) It must have been unwitting luck. No recognizable (good) California wines. The chardonnays, the Zinfandels, the Pinot Noirs, the Sauvignon Blancs (aka Fume Blancs) are all from undistinguished wineries. Microscopic selection of Oregon wines (perhaps one good Pinot Noir). Btw, apparently they don't realize that Oregon and Washington are noted for their Chardonnays... Spanish: no Albarinos; no Rubera del Duero... Goodish small offering of Chilean and Argentine wines (btw, Malbec is THE best wine from Argentina, yet they had more Argentine cabernets...) Really, really, really poor selection of sparkling wines. Relative to the rest, this isn't a place where you're going to find an array of single malt scotches, or brandies or cognacs. The liquor selection is decidedly middle brow. Okay, so you're in Glenmont and you understandably don't want to go to Mayone's (yuck) so you come here and settle for something that they do have. Well don't expect any customer service. Salesmen are curt, uncommunicative, not given to saying thanks. If you are in their "wine club" you'll need to remind them/they won't ask. In fact, you'll probably need to remind them that they are supposed to give you a discount if you buy six bottles. And, even if you are the only person in the store and they have nothing else to do, they will not waste any time exchanging pleasantries -- unless you are a younger woman. And please explain to me why they can handle every single bottle of wine you purchase but can't put those bottles in a bag for you. The answer is that they don't want to be bothered (now COVID is a convenient excuse.) Despite the settling and the physical store, the jello shots for sale on ton the counter define the place, as well as other rock gut on shelves adjacent to the entrance. I really don't know why this place is pretending to be a purveyor of fine wine. Their rent is paid by selling box and jug wine and novelty bottles of cheap liquor. What a wasted opportunity. Good service might compensate for the lack of greater inventory/an excellent selection might make up for rude service (thing Empire Wine.) Unfortunately, if you want a good bottle of fine and don't want to go to Albany, you'll need to drive around Delmar and head to Slingerlands.

Great selections at competitive prices. Staff is always helpful and affable. Can't wait for them to…read morestart tastings again.
