I don't know if I've ever reviewed MaCarroll's. Let's call it what it is. Maybe as good a breakfast sandwich as I've ever had and it should come as no surprise that there's a big crowd on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Their subs on homemade French bread is the best textured roll I've been able to find. As a loyal Philly guy where our "hoagie" roles are unmatched, the French bread here is the right chewy on the outside and light on the inside. Service is ALWAYS superb. Their fast, friendly, and their sandwich cards a great bonus. Add the hash brown and salt, pepper, ketchup to boot. You won't regret it. When I don't know what to pick, the deli counter staff are great! Lauren has yet to steer me wrong. If there's a special, get it! Don't want a lot? I was in the neighboring frame shop and decided to give this a try. It gives the initial impression that it might be a good gourmet grocery; but then walking in you are quickly disabused of that hope. Then, you imagine it might be a quality butcher, but then you recognize their focus is on sandwiches. So, I ordered a sliced turkey on rye with lettuce, tomato, and rye with mayo. Exceedingly little mayonnaise on the sandwich; an under ripe, hard, pale, tasteless tomato; sliced iceberg lettuce (come on!) and mediocre sliced pressed turkey. This makes the deli section of the Slingerlands Price Chopper appear to be Chef Pierre in comparison. I'd seriously pass on this; said sandwich was $8, btw. If you live in Delmar, you already know that McCarroll's makes a pretty kickass egg and cheese sandwich in their deli. They get their rolls fresh from Prinzo's, and do a great job at toasting them on the griddle with plenty of butter. To some, this is the pinnacle of our local take on egg and cheese on a hard roll. For me, they toast the roll a bit aggressively, and that dominates the flavor of the sandwich, plus their grill runs a bit hot, and crisps up the egg whites to a lacy brown. I consider this overcooked. Others delight in the crispy bits. Still, if you are in the area, and it's morning, and you are hungry. This is the place for you. Or, if you are going to the Delmar Farmers Market, this is a good place to stop in before you start stocking up on local foods. Never shop hungry. Even at the farmers market. read more

Came up on a Sunday... Nice location, located rt next to WubSay... It's a nice grocery store with the deli located in the back rt corner! I purposely came for a Bacon Egg & Cheese! There was def a wait, however they let you know when you're next up to hit the grill...which was cool & there was one gentleman who encouraged me to put a hash brown on my sandwich...smh, perfect! Also the bread was soft... Plus they had other homemade goods...cookies and crumb cake, brownies, pies... Full Disclosure: We have a slight familial connection to this business. Today I was in the mood for a tuna salad on toast with extra mayo and onions which my wife was kind enough to pick up for me, in shirt it was the single best tuna salad on toast i have ever had and prepared exactly how I wanted it. I work in Delmar just a quick few minute walk from McCarroll's and this place is definitely my go-to for breakfast and/or lunch. As stated is pretty much all of the other reviews their egg and cheese sandwiches are quintessential New York style egg and cheese on a hard roll. Whether it be breakfast or lunch I am pretty much obsessed with these sandwiches, which are made even better by requesting a hash brown on top. Everyone working behind the counter is super friendly, by this point they even know my name so sometimes I get greeted personally, and who doesn't love that?! I'm a bit embarrassed that I've never done a review of McCarroll's, considering I've been going here for as long as I remember. They catered a couple of my events, they were always there when I ran out of something, and didn't feel like going to one of the further/larger stores, their breakfast sandwiches are the best in the area, and they make the best sub in Delmar. They also carry meat products from Oscar's Smoke House, which is one of my favorite in the country, as well as all the raw meat/spices/bbq sauces/bread products/etc... that you need to make your BBQ a success. Whether stopping by on a stroll for a drink of Stewart's Orange Cream Soda, or some Maine Lobster Tracks ice cream, I've never left here empty handed. For catering, they make phenomenal sandwich platters, as well as potato salad, macaroni salad, baked ziti, and anything else that you can think of. read more

I've stopped by here for a quick lunch sometimes and haven't been impressed yet. Hot Sandwiches: They have a sub-par ruben. On the flavor side, it's solidly average. They heat up everything on a heady griddle, so any aromatics are covered by fats; hiding a lot of potential flavor. Build-wise is where it falls apart... it actually falls apart. The sandwich itself is too soggy and the bread doesn't hold up as it's only toasted on one side. Only 2-3 hot sandwiches exist on their menu, but after two ruben experiences I wasn't inclined to try anything else. Greasy sandwiches aren't fun. Cold Sandwiches: Volume is the name of the game here. Not huge in terms of meat, but they don't hold back on veggies. Unfortunately, the meat is supposed to be the substance of non-veggie subs. This past weekend we had family coming to visit for the first time. We wanted to spend as much quality time with them as possible. We didn't want to waste time in the kitchen. Thursday morning I was in the deli getting my morning breakfast sandwich, when I asked about getting two heroes and some salads. They told me "don't worry about it, we'll take care of it. You need to spend time with the family. I came in Sunday morning to pick up the sandwiches and salads... I was blown away!! They had prepared two 3 ft sandwiches. One Italian and one chicken cutlet. The Italian was loaded with every topping you can think of. The chicken cutlets had roasted peppers, sliced mozzarella with Italian seasoning as well as lettuce / tomato. On top of that, the salads I chose were all amazing. The famous pasta and tortellini salads were the biggest hits among the sides. Wow, these guys are awesome! We catered a party that we hosted at our home for my work. The food was delicious, and the service outstanding. The food was delivered exactly on time, and the sausage tortellini was simply to die for. The chicken piccata, mashed potatoes, and roasted vegetables were all so delicious. We used McCarroll's Barbecue catering service for our team's end of season soccer banquet. They did a fantastic job, providing freshly made burgers, hot dogs, sausage and peppers, and sides. Jimmy was fantastic to work with, and and set out a fabulous spread for us. The food was delicious, cooked on his smokers. The boys kept eating and eating. Not much else you can say about this one...a staple, a trademark of the town of Bethlehem. From egg sandwich to chocolate milk, walking into this place makes me feel like a kid walking downstairs on Christmas morning to a plethora of presents. My latest experience, just yesterday morning, was nothing short of excellent. I got a bacon, egg, and cheese with hot sauce on a hard roll with a Pure Leaf tea on the side. I'm sold after only one visit...I mean, how could I not be? These egg sandwiches are incredible. In theory, creating a well-made egg and cheese sandwich isn't a difficult undertaking. You cook the egg, you melt the cheese, you throw them both in between a bread of your choice, and, well, that's it. In reality, however, creating an exceptional egg and cheese takes more than that. McCarroll's seems to have found whatever that is. I came to McCarroll's on an especially busy Saturday morning in November. The line at the counter was at least fifteen people deep. Many of the patrons were ordering multiple sandwiches at a time and it was remarkable watching the McCarroll's staff pumping them out just as fast. The sandwiches were not prepped ahead of time, rather the operation is just that efficient. You can order the sandwich in any number of combinations, from choosing the bread to selecting the meat. I opted for the standard egg and cheese on a hard roll with bacon. Everything about the sandwich was awesome. The egg was cooked to perfection, as it was pulled from the flat-top grill at just the right time for the yolk to be mostly cooked through, but remained just a bit runny at the very center. The bacon was a good accompaniment, but not necessary, as the egg and cheese could stand tall on their own. Normally, I'm a ketchup on my eggs sort of guy. I didn't use so much as a drop on this sandwich because it was that good on its own. I look forward to returning to McCarroll's to sample other deli offerings and many, many, many more breakfast sandwiches. read more

Went in with friends over the weekend after hearing their rave reviews of the breakfast sandwiches. My sausage, egg, and cheese did not disappoint. I got mine on the French Bread (again based on friends recommendation) with a touch of hot sauce, and it was delicious. The eggs were cooked fresh, and there was an equal amount of sausage egg and cheese to cover the entire sandwich, they didn't skimp. The staff taking our orders were extremely friendly, and the prices for sandwiches were reasonable. Mine was just under $4, which I thought was fair. I can't say much else about the store, aside from what I purchased. But, it looked like they had some interesting local products - there were employees handing out samples of what appeared to be a local hot sauce, which was cool. If it weren't so far from me, I would definitely make this a regular place to visit and try out some other options. I'll be visiting again on my way to the hiking trails for sure! read more

This is the spot literally , right in the center of delmar. there's always a crowd when I come in here. the subs are incredible and almost 15" long almost 2 lbs of meat on just a 6 inch sub... the owners are kind of assholes but I'd rather be honest, they give great service aside from the fact that they are short and sweet with you. they are a boars head provider which means they have a good selection meats to pick from in a case sponsored by boars head. all meats are boars head, you don't just need to get a sub you need to get a breakfast sandwich too, they're to die for me and my boyfriend used to go there with his construction crew, they would get 10 men in and out in almost 10 minuets. he also is a butcher so he will sell you pounds of meat & cheese cut to your liking. if you ask anyone in the Delmar area what a good traditional home style deli is they will say mccarrolls read more

Legitimately installed the Yelp app just to write this review, that's how passionate I feel about it. As a local, I have always praised McCarrols for the best breakfast sandwiches & subs, among other great aspects including friendly service. While the latter has not changed, it's easily been over a year since the last time I enjoyed their food. I'm uncertain what has changed, but I can't remember the last time they got an order correct. Additionally on the rare occasion they do, it ends up tasting bland and feels rushed. They fall apart, not from abundance of food, but from not being put together well. It does sadden me to say these things about one of my once favorite locations. I hope some changes can be made to once again restore their quality. read more
