Terrible, terrible person. Erratic, emotional, hot-tempered, bizarre. Stay far, far away. He worked on my deck which I now need to pay all over again to have it completely redone. He was walking misery. Some days he would talk my ear off, and some days he would either not show up at all or when he did, he would get triggered by me asking him a simple clarifying question and then he would storm off the site again and I wouldn't see him again until I called to see when the next time he'd be coming. The work was subpar and that's putting it nicely. But any questions I raised about the hills and valleys on what should have been a flat, smooth finish were met with fury. read more

We had a portion of our fence blown down by strong winds and termite damage. Chris was able to come out for an estimate the same day we called, and his guys got started a few days later. They worked quickly and did excellent work. The new portion looks great and very sturdy. He even added additional support to another portion of the fence at no charge. And to my surprise... Delphi Construction (Chris) did an outstanding job with my roof/deck project. The job was made made more challenging by the fact that prior contractors installed ceramic tile over an existing roof which failed causing leakage into the garage underneath. Chris and his crew carefully demo'd the existing tiles, carefully re-engineered the pitch to move the water off the deck efficiently, installed a cement mud layer installed over the correct wire mesh, then followed up with a layer of fiberglass which was finally coated with a deck paint that matched the parapet wall surrounding the deck. He also repaired the texture of the wall while constructing my deck. The wall was repainted along with the railing trim. Chris knows what needs to happen and can execute the plan. My only regret was not doing this job sooner. He is my go-to contractor for any kind of work of this nature. Thanks Chris! read more

Had Chris bid repair to my deck that was found by my termite inspector. Seemed like a nice guy, gave a fair price. He wrote up a bid. I asked if he would speak to our termite inspector to make sure the proposed repairs would pass inspection. He refused and then refused to do the job, offering no reason, and hung up on me. My only guess is Chris does not work to legal building codes. Watch out, do your homework before hiring him. read more

I don't like writing bad reviews, but I'm considering this a public safety announcement. This about my experience with him in July 2016. I called him for a deck repair and he sounded like a normal human over the phone. But, when he arrived to my condo in hillcrest, it was like something out of the twilight zone. He was aggressive, rude, and began full on yelling and being hostile within 2 minutes of arriving to check out the deck after I asked him the very basic question: can you please let me know if there are different options to choose from in the coating and materials when you're writing up your bid. That was all, but that somehow unleashed a truly terrifying man. I seriously was scared and standing by my door with the phone ready to call the police should he return after he left the house--that's how random and explosive he became. I would advise anyone considering calling him to please, please for your own safety and sanity explore other options (there are plenty of good ones in SD). I waited a year to write this review to make sure it was after I moved, because that is how scary this man was. It's interesting because some the reviews describe him as great (I wish I had met that guy!), and others describe very similar to the experience I had with him (erratic, explosive, downright scary). Not sure what's going on, but I genuinely hope it's addressed because I'm not sure he understands how frightening it can be to a person to have that reaction from a 'professional' who you have just allowed to enter your home. I called Delphi Construction on a Sunday afternoon to get an estimate on re coating my deck. They actually came the same day and got started the next day (Monday). Their quote was reasonable and Chris, the owner, was very friendly. As the job started it became obvious that my 20 year old deck (at the beach) was really in bad shape. Delphi replaced posts, railings, support beams and did all the painting when it was done.. in addition to re coating my deck. I had a balcony project that I was having difficulty just getting a straightforward and reasonably priced bid for. Chris was responsive to my initial text, gave a reasonable bid, and required only a minimal deposit up front. He completed the job quickly, consistently (ie was there each day) and efficiently - including additional work that I requested. He never tried to upsell me, and was perfectly happy to fix up any details I identified to complete the project. Finally, when our mutual bank gave him a hassle about my check (it was a very old account I rarely use), I gave him a different check, and when both checks did ultimately clear, he immediately returned the overage as we had agreed. I contacted this firm (guy) partly on the basis of these reviews here in yelp. I'm a property manager for some condos in Leucadia and have some leaky decks that need repair.. Chris showed up on time and so I explained our problems and showed him a deck that we had stripped clean of soffit so that it could be inspected. So far so good.... I then mention that we had a structural engineer look at the dry rot and at that point Chris turned on the crazy switch. Nearly yelling " I can tell you that he's gonna say ' put a post right here'" pointing to nowhere in particular! I said "excuse me?" he said " You're not gonna like my price, you're not gonna like my price" and storms off! I said "you don't want to bid the job?" and he responded "I'm not giving you a bid!!" I don't know what this guy's problem is but I would definitely say don't let him near you or your property. my apologies to the guy who posted about his road rage thing for thinking that you must be overly sensitive!! I had a flagstone patio constructed by Delphi. During the construction, these guys destroyed the landscape and got cement all over my house. They solved this problem by simply painting over it--it looks awful. I wasn't happy about it, but the patio did look good. Now, just two months later, the cement between the flagstones is coming out and that looks awful. I would not hire these guys again. You get what you pay for -- low prices -- low quality. I found out later that Delphi had so many complaints that Chris Doctor started a new construction company using a different name. If you check his license, search his name to get a list of all his companies. read more

I was surprised to see bad reviews about this company. I received a quote from a competitor that came in at over 13k to refurbish a deck and put a top on it. I thought the price was inflated so got online and started making calls. I talked with Chris at Delphi Construction on Friday around 4pm. He offered to come out immediately to look at what I wanted and give me a price. I told him that it wasn't necessary to come out on a Friday evening with all of the traffic. He arrived about 90 minutes later, took a look at the work to be done including taking care of some areas in the garage that needed work due to the leaks from the deck. his price quote was less than 1/2 and he said that he would have it done in 10 days. He was proud of the work that he had done previously and went out of his way to show his work as well as offer references. He also explained the redecking process in a way that I and my wife understood. He arrived on Monday and started the tear down of the deck and except for 1 day did all of the work himself. I had it in my mind on what I wanted and he went over and above my expectations. The Roof exactly matched the my existing tile roof. He screened it in so that my cats could use it to sun themselves. I also had him box the eaves over the deck to keep out the swallows. He pressure washed the walls, re stuccoed and painted as needed and when he was finished, he cleaned up thoroughly and made the side of the house cleaner than when he left. We've now gone through our first major storm. There were no leaks and all of the work that he did held up beautifully. I would recommend Chris and his work to anyone that needs deck work, whether it be a rebuild or a start from scratch. I checked him out through the BBB and the Contractors licensing board and there have been no complaints ever filed since he has had his contractors license. Wish the original builder of my house had been as thorough as he was. BTW, he offers a full 5 year warranty on the deck recoating. read more

Needed a totally new deck built with a gazebo covering it. We also added a two fences and one with a gate. Chris the owner came on a Saturday (So my wife could attend) and gave us quote. We liked his ideas and his strait forward attitude, he emailed me the quote the same day. They stuck to there price and did not have any issues with them at all. I agree with Karen A. Experienced extreme road from this individual yesterday. Two lanes were turning left. I was in the left turning lane which was the primary lane As it continues through the parking lot. The right lane ends after it turns left and merges. He was in the right turning Lane and tried to use that lane that was ending as a passing lane. Instead of yielding to my car that was in the primary lane as defined by driving statues, he sped up and tried to pass me, very nearly Hitting the right side of my car. Then he rolled down the window to yell at me. A gentleman nearby Witnessed the situation yelled at him that he was at fault. Still he continued to yell at me that the near accident was my fault. Anyone who is that Uneducated about simple driving rules, much less that angry about something his fault is clearly is unaccountable for his actions and doesn't deserve your business. Read the other negative review for his response to M Manor'S complaint - you can tell a lot by the way he expresses his reaction. read more

Our company called to request a quote from this company. Chris called 20 minutes late for our appointment,stating he couldn't find our leasing office. He began telling me that he tried asking our Mexican landscapes, that gave him directions off the property. Upon arrival to our leasing office Chris was clearly agitated and was taken to the pool area so he can start his quote. However in the 3 minutes he looked at the pool area, not waiting for management to come meet him. He stuck his head in office front door, said he has everything he needed and left. I was surprised to immediately receive a phone call from him. Yelling at the top of his lungs saying how does he know what we want from him and what our exceptions were. I had to move the phone away from my ear and told him how unprofessional he was. He proceeded to end the conversation with have a great day and hung up. If only he waited till he met with management to discuss the expectations we were wanting for our pool area. Maybe this quote would've ended in a professional manner. read more

The owner's name is Chris. He comes off really down to earth and honest in his video on his site. Don't let that fool you. He came over to give me an estimate. He was very nice and said he would email me a quote within a couple of days. A week later I called him to ask him when I would get a quote. He said that he opted not to bid on my project and then hung up on me. WTF? (my project is 30-40k) Very strange. I have never written a complaint like this on Yelp or any other site, but I was a bit thrown off by this erratic behavior. Prior to writing this review I red the other reviews and now I get it....he obviously has some sort of split personality or similar disorder, or just doesn't know how to treat customers.
