Their planes are bigger than most and they have free entertainment. They also give away free headphones so you can watch a movie or show. Their planes are cleaner than most too. I just wish they were more transparent as to why the delay for hours. I didn't arrive home until 3:30am. First plane was delayed and I only had 45 mins for the connecting, which luckily was also delayed. The first plane delay-we were boarded. Then they wanted to check everyone's ID's. No explanation! We ended up being delayed about a half hour. I think it was a passenger that thought she didn't have a seat or something. It was a full plane. The second plane-hours and hours. No idea why. It's just frustrating not knowing why. It was a long day of working then traveling. I was grateful it was delayed so I didn't miss it but it was late and there wasn't anything open at Atlanta Airport at that hour. I ended up landing home in the wee hours and having to scrape ice and snow off my car. Just a bad trip. I'd fly Delta again because their planes are cleaner and a bit more roomy but they need to work on communicating the reasons for delays. read more

Bereavement denied Today I tried to book a bereavement fare to see my dying father. In spite of what the website says about "imminent death" I was denied a bereavement fare because I couldn't produce the name of the mortuary and because he wasn't actually dead yet. I texted with someone who identified themselves as Lailani. Here's what the website says: This program is valid for SkyMiles Members needing to travel due to death or imminent death of an immediate family member. If you are not currently a SkyMiles Member you may enroll immediately to qualify. I quoted this to Lailani and added: He is dying imminently. I started the exchange by giving my skymiles number. So they knew that I qualified on both counts, I tried this several times and asked to speak to a supervisor. I was not turned over to a supervisor, but given some lame cliches that sounded like I was conversing with a bot. Most airlines have abandoned bereavement fares altogether. Only Delta and Southwest still seem to have them. I'm flying Southwest and didn't have to ask for a bereavement fare and got a better connection. This isn't about a missed flight or overbooking, or any of the usual annoyances. This was a violation of their stated policy at a time when I should have been treated with extra care. Welcome to the rarefied and reeking airspace of DL out of ALB. Minus one star for the "regional jets" in which you are shoehorned into undersized seats like squealing piglets at a factory farm. You won't see anyone using a laptop or otherwise doing productive work because there's no room to open it and anyway you're in too much pain. Minus one star for making me cabin-check my luggage and then not bothering to check it through to my destination. Why do you use luggage tags if you're not going to pay attention to what's printed on them? i left the airport because I was told the bag was "right behind me" on the next flight and would be delivered soon after I got home. Turns out they give the bag to a delivery service that has till 10 the next morning to deliver the bag. I didn't use Southwest on this trip because their fares have been pretty pricey. But Delta out of ALB is no bargain at all. Never again. read more

I traveled 3/16 from Alb to Sav. The guy sitting next to me was quite large and he took up his entire seat and half of mine. Since i travel with assistance i was seated first. The bruise in the picture is on my leg from my leg being squeezed into the arm rest. I finally was able to speak with a flight attendant about changing seats. Requested a wheelchair (foot surgery). Got to Atlanta....no wheelchair. Wait 20 minutes...one over worked guy shows up and pushes TWO people away while his overweight pal stares at his phone and wanders off pushing NO ONE. Coming back I didn't even bother. It was my first time to use Albany Airport and I do have to say that this place is busier than one would suspect for a small airport. The lines can build up quick! Not to mention there are very few food and drink options here. Anyway, Delta's service definitely made up for the lack of amenities in the airport. CHECK-IN: Although I can't really comment on the full check-in process since I only had carry-on bag and had my board pass on my phone, I noticed that Delta had plenty of kiosk available with attendants walking around to assist folks. They were friendly BOARDING: The boarding process was simple. I feel for the gate agents because passengers do not listen at all. It might be because they're busy or just not paying attention, but don't board until it's your turn. I saw the gate agents tell people kindly that it wasn't their turn to board. Nonetheless, the gate agents were always friendly and smiling. They were really good about keep us updating about when we would board and whatnot. Kudos to them. FLIGHT: The flight was uneventful to say the least since I was asleep the entire time. However, I would've been more enticed to stay awake if I had a personal TV or some kind of entertainment. That's probably the only reason why I hate flying Delta because the entertainment is hit or miss. The beverage service went as expected. No complaints there. The seats were pretty comfortable for my flight to Atlanta. I didn't feel like I was too cramped or anything so I was a happy camper. RECOMMENDATION: I am pretty picky when it comes to airlines as there are certain legacy airlines that I will fly and others I loathe to fly. Delta is pretty high on my list in terms of all the areas I care about: service, on-time performance, and comfort of the seats. Arrived on time at the ticketing counter the lines were incredible. Only one person was attending the skypriority and bussiness line. After half an hour in line when it was our turn she closed the line and said she was done for the day and left. All other passenger were being attended except for our line since no other employee came to replace her. I had to ask the other employee that was attending the other line and he took over. Traveled from Albany to Atlanta. This is the first time ever the captain has got on to say that the plane "had too much fuel" and would be delayed while they unloaded some weight. I was traveling in first class. However the seats were far less comfortable than I've experienced on United. The entertainment options were very limited. Despite the delay and the three hours plus in the plane, the only thing offered was some basic snacks. Delta has the feeling about it that everything is worn and tired. The planes are old, and crammed so tight that there is limited room even if you spring for first class. Next time I'll be spending my money on a different airline even if it means a connecting flight. My money really was wasted on Delta. read more

Delta ruined our one chance at a family vacation. I'm military so I planned my leave very far in advance to travel to Phoenix, AZ out of Albany. We booked tickets in November because we knew that the week that worked for my schedule would be Super Bowl weekend. We were originally scheduled to fly out the 27th. I understand that cancellations happen due to weather, but Delta refused to rebook my flight until Friday (30th) at the earliest even though Delta's website showed flights available in the 28th and 29th. They didn't offer those options, as those flights were priced at five times the cost of my original tickets due to last minute Super Bowl travel and Delta was making a killing on those tickets. I have traveled with United and Southwest in the past and have, on multiple occasions, had rescheduled flights due to severe weather but never had such poor treatment or been so blatantly disregarded as a customer. They are refuinding my purchase price, sure, but aren't reimbursing any of the excessive fees for tickets purchase and can't compensate me for the leave time lost . I will be traveling with another airline in the future - one that doesn't cancel flights prematurely (several flights left Albany today) and one that doesn't penalize customers for planning far in advance. read more

I'm a Delta Diamond and this is my primary airport of travel. The gate agents here are usually right on their game and one in particular really goes out of her way to help us when we travel with our special needs son. I did have one bad experience with a younger gate agent when my flight was being delayed and I was going to miss my connection and an important meeting. She clearly didn't care about my frequent flier status and was of no use in giving me viable options. A phone call to the Diamond Medallion customer service line straightened everything out! read more

I think I have become somewhat addicted to the way Southwest does their boarding process. I don't have "status" yet with Delta, even though I have a Delta credit card lol. But I am working my way up. I do love the fact that they have cookies :) Who doesn't love cookies?? :) read more

Flown Delta a few times only complaint was seats seem more crowded in than on other airlines. We also boarded a flight once that was over booked and they compensated us generously for taking a later flight. read more
