I like that there isn't assigned seating. Seems way more organized and faster for boarding! I was lucky to score direct flights to and from Colorado. Not a bad price either! As with any airline, they squish you in there with small seats and literally no way to rest, but the aircraft was clean and the staff were very friendly. They got me there and back safely. An open letter to the CEO of Southwest Airlines: You are ruining what was once an excellent airline. Your flight and ground personnel and even your human "agents" are top notch, but your logistics are terrible. I suspect, you will soon see a mass exit of your well-trained personnel. It's one thing to encounter difficulties, which need mechanical remedies, but you abuse your passengers by arbitrarily cancelling flights, switching planes with different seating configurations, and lying to passengers about the need to gate check their bags because overhead space is limited. And discriminating in boarding groups between fares purchased with points and fares purchased with cash. All in the interest of adding a few pennies to the bottom line by enforcing an extractivist model on your passengers. And when I swallow these insults and actually pay for extra legroom, I expect to receive it. Instead, your AI switches planes mid-route and I lose the legroom I paid for. Even though the whole idea of paying extra for adequate legroom is an affront to human dignity. One airline used to say, "Pride made us take a seat out." Apparently, you never heard that one. I plan on lobbying my elected representatives to make that kind of venal merchandising illegal. Maybe a class action lawsuit would suit you? The whole policy stinks of overuse of AI. Your passengers are organic-based life forms. They resent your preferences for solutions that humiliate and inconvenience them. Think about that. Truly you shd be ashamed of yourself, but you show by your behavior, that you think "empathy is a problem." You can see where that got Tesla. We have used Southwest twice in the past year. In 2023 we were in Chicago for a conference. When it was time to fly home, they told us that our flight was good to go. When we got to the airport, we found out that all flights to New York were cancelled, and there was no way we could fly back that night. I worked out a deal to fly to Philadelphia and then rent a car to get home overnight. After our luggage was set for that plane we found out that there wan another plane that could have flown us home, but it was too late. This year we flew to Phoenix and back. On both flights we had a layover at Midway. In both cases the first plane was late letting us out, forcing us to race across the airport Section A to Section B. We explained that I was under treatment for bad knees, and were basically told "Tough." We need a reliable airline to get us places now and then. This isn't it. They're fine when things are going well, but when they have a problem, you have a problem. read more

SouthWORST. I haven't flown Southwest since 2005. For a reason (bad experience). Now...a multitude of reasons. Primarily, I despise not having assigned seats. I know it works for them, but the cattle call and the high stress of trying to find a "decent" seat on a crappy, cramped, dirty, old plane still doesn't appeal to me. When I say old....the planes that I traveled on recently still had ash trays in the bathroom. I paid for "business elite" seats. Complete and total ripoff. This gives you one free drink on the plane (adult beverage), faster check-in/bag drop off and placement in the "A" group as one of the first dozen or so people on the plane (after those traveling with children and wheelchairs). I could have flown first class on Delta for the same price (or less, actually). I only chose SouthWORST because it was the only airline that flew directly to Las Vegas. Next time, I'll risk missing connecting flights due to a layover with another airline. What else did I abhor about my recent experience on this wretched airline? I mentioned the old airplane. Well, the trip to Vegas was extraordinarily uncomfortable due to their inability to get the temperature right. It was so hot that I was swelling and sweating for the entire trip. Air conditioning=broken. I looked like a puffer-fish by the end of that nightmare. Thankfully the flight home was a bit better as the temperature was tolerable. The one shining light on the flight to LV was a single flight attendant....she was professional and pleasant. The rest of them? Not quite. In their defense - a few of the people on this particular flight were borderline horrifying. Some were drunk before they got on the plane; others were families with obnoxious, coddled children that had meltdowns at various times. And, of course...there were crying babies/infants (as the coddled children that I was referring to were not 2, 3 or 4....they were closer to "double-digits" in age and should be way beyond those kinds of meltdowns). Lastly....there was a medical emergency on this flight. The flight attendants were extraordinarily rattled (with the exception of the one that I mentioned previously). So...pile that on to an already unpleasant flight, and you have one crappy little travel cocktail. There is no first class nor business class seating. No entertainment packages (small screens on the backs of the seats for watching TV or movies...think JetBlue....not even screens for movie viewing that drop from the ceiling...) nor any leg room. Sorry, folks...American travelers are not getting any smaller. I'm not an exceptionally tall or wide person...and my knees were practically hitting the seat in front of me. And if the person in front of you reclines? In. Your. Lap. Now I'll (continue to?) be petty - the snacks are awful. Ritz cheese crackers, oreo cookies and fritos. If you weren't swollen before, you will be. There might have been pretzels....but not a healthy choice among them. It does seem that the snacks are unlimited...one of the meltdown children had at least 8 bags of fritos. No joke. Bring your own snacks...especially on a flight that is almost 6 hours long. No thank you, Southwest. Next time I overpay for a flight it will be with Delta. Or JetBlue. Or any other airline (except Frontier). read more

Don't book with Southwest Airlines. Just don't do it unless you have a single overriding justification, like a favorable promotional fare or particular scheduling requirements that Southwest can best accommodate. The experience you will have is almost certain to be challenging. At every turn, management has cut corners and the slack is always picked up by the customer. You get nothing but a seat on a plane. Rarely can get direct flights out of Albany- I'm a loyal Delta Platinum But this price and convenience couldn't be beat! Can't stand their boarding process but otherwise flight was excellent with value of no change frees and 2 free bags. I couldn't take a drive vacation for the $168 RT we got these tickets for. We were so pumped we even booked a new flight to return in 1 month WHILE WERE FLYING HOME. Which frankly - great strategy- southwest should market to people while in their planes on the air. My first time with southwest. I have to admit that their unique boarding system gets passengers on the plane so quick. Our flight scheduled to depart at 1:10pm, boarding started at 12:45pm. We backed off from the gate at 13:08pm. The quickest boarding for a full flight in my life. Staff both ground and air are very nice and positive attitude. Anyway I gave 4 stars because the check-in online is a bit of a work to get ahead in line. read more

When United 1k/Platinum members start flying Southwest, that tells you something. Yes, I get three free bags on United, vs two on Southwest, and yes I can get the priory checkin, but if it takes 6 hours to get to BWI on United compared to 1 hour on Southwest, it's really hard to justify spending the 3 hours at Newark on a layover. The same is true for other non-stop destinations, it's really hard to be Southwest. $12.50 buys you a spot in the A group, the employees seem happy, and tend to be quite entertaining, and it's all Boeing 737s, as opposed to the United Express DASH-8, CRJ, and ERJ puddle jumpers. This means that a standard carryon will fit in the overhead bin. They also give out free peanuts or pretzels, and there's tequila on the liquor menu. They will even mix you a decent margarita. read more

Southwest Airlines is absolute trash I had to $300 vouchers that I have been waiting two years because Covid was ineffectt that when I first went to fly there was no planes flying at the time and I wanted to go to Florida then New York State put in a 14-day home quarantine... So I went to use my vouchers now you go to Florida to take the trip I've been wanting to take for 9 months and Southwest vouchers are expired and that I'll lose my $600... which made me absolutely livid how they can rob $600 from you in the middle of a pandemic or really upset me and I will be looking into legal action but I will tell you the good side I had vouchers for American Airlines to and when I was talking to the lady on the phone about how Southwest screwed me she told me she couldn't do a whole lot but she would give me free baggage checks which I thought was very nice but it wasn't even their fault so American Airlines cheers to you Southwest Airlines you can go f*** yourself. read more

I used to praise southwest, NO MORE! Last year our connection in Chicago got cancelled due to "pilot issues", they then could not get us to our destination for three days, we were only going for long weekend! Found our own flights on another airline, they did reimburse us as they should have,should have gotten comped for lost time with our son! This trip they cancelled flight due to plane issue. Got delayed , 3 stops later sat in Tampa for over 6 hrs because now weather delayed us. I lost 12 hrs of work next day and no one cared. Luggage nowhere to be had got that three days later, and then am told you have to take receipts to the airport to be considered for reimbursement!!! They think a $200 luv voucher makes up for everything, yes its something but won't keep flying them if this is how they roll. Would understand if was due to weather but not this, then they say well it's for safety! read more

I have mixed feelings about this airline. They are either excellent or terrible. Going to Fort Lauderdale from Albany,NY was excellent. Returning was terrible. The staff on the ground and in the air from Albany were wonderful: personable, helpful and funny. The staff on the ground in Fort Lauderdale was rude, confrontational, answering questions grudgingly. Southwest's check-in counter at Albany Airport is an unorganized disaster. The Saturday after Christmas, I brought my daughter to the airport so she could catch her 6:45 am flight back to California and there was an enormous line, While we stood in line waiting to check her bag for over an hour, we realized that there were 2 flights - one that she was on and a later one going to Florida - that were all being checked in simultanesouly. Meanwhile, my daughter and other people on the earlier flight were in danger of missing their flight because Southwest didn't have the foresight to separate these people out and deal with them first and then deal with all of the families headed to Disney. By the time my daughter got through and got up to security, the line there was huge and the security personnel would not help anyone on her Southwest flight saying it was there problem if they missed their plane. Luckily, some passengers with a heart let them move ahead in line and all 13 of them made it to the plane. Also, Southwest if you know you have 2 large flights boarding early in the morning the Saturday after Christmas, you should plan to have more than 2 agents checking in baggage. This isn't London Heathrow. Two hours ahead of your flight time should be plenty of time for Albany Airport. Southwest, you are absurd. read more

I was sorely disappointed by my most recent Southwest experience - here's why: 1) The stewardesses we had on our flights were very, very rude. As a stewardess, one is in the customer service industry. When someone asks a question, politely, one shouldn't snap at them. 2) They don't enforce the order of seating, especially for family and friends. If a group has people in A, B, and C, then they should board in A, B, and C, not A. 3) Military is always offered early seating, but not in my four flights with Southwest. 4) The hugh technical delay I experienced on a Sunday caused me to bump from B5 to C44. Because of a delay on Southwest's end, I lost my decent seating. If the company has to re-assign me to different flights, then they should keep or improve my seating number. Overall, I probably won't choose Southwest in the future. read more

I would definitely recommend Southwest to any of my friends looking to fly. Even when my flight home was delayed in Vegas, I felt that the boarding person handled the situation with care and a little spence of humor. I use to fly Southwest all the time, their fares are reasonable if you fly using their WannaGetAway fare. Reminder: you really do get what you pay for. I ignored the fact that you are not allowed to choose your own seat when booking. They then charge extra for Each Leg of your flight as well as for Each Leg of your companion(s)' flight if you want to board timely to get a good seat. I even ignored the fact that fellow travelers were paying for one person to board with the 'A' group and then hold seats for their companions. I cannot however ignore that during the Covid-19 pandemic they refuse to refund money for tickets cancelled during this time. They give you travel funds and the funds are in the name of the passenger. Despite that I used my Southwest credit card to purchase $1000 worth of airfare i cannot get that amount returned to my credit card. The funds sit there in 2 peoples names, one of which is not me. I need the money for food, medicine, rent not TRAVEL FUNDS that I may never get the opportunity to use and especially not necessarily with the other passenger who is my ex. read more

A train wreck. Lost one of two bags I checked on a non-stop flight from Chicago. Couldn't tell me where the bag was or whether it was likely to arrive later that same day, or the next day, because "we have no tracking system". Woman called the next day to say the bag had arrived and would be FedExed for Saturday delivery. When I called Saturday to see if the bag had been shipped, the person told me she was too busy at the moment and would call back. When I did not hear back for eight hours, I called the corporate baggage office, where a person could confirm that the bag had been picked up by Fed Ex to be delivered, but isn't scheduled for delivery until mid morning on Monday. This employee claimed that the company does not give its baggage people computers that can access other companies' web sites, and that she'd needed to use her personal cell phone to find even that small amount of information. Was also able to give me a number for "customer service" -- but it would be 36 hours before that number would be answered "because it's at the main office" apparently, customer-service reps don't work on weekends. I've been able to get around the region in a rental car (including replacing the clothes that are in the missing suitcase), and my doctor in Wisconsin was able to find a pharmacy in the New York town I'm visiting to fill prescriptions for the medications that are in the missing suitcase. But the airline has not been able to get my bag to the hotel I'm visiting. read more
