He was LATE for our appointment and then said we would have to reschedule because he had another test scheduled. When I pointed out that we had been waiting for him he said well he had to take care of some personal business and didn't have the time for our appointment. I went to the school with my husband so he could take his driving test. My husband is Greek, and his appearance makes him look Middle Eastern (dark curly hair and a beard) and I am a light skinned Black woman. When we walked out to the car altogether Mr. Milton looked at my husband and commented "oh you're with him?" At the time I thought nothing of it. I waited for the test to be completed, which initially my husband passed. Once Mr. Milton counted up all the points he realized my husband passed the test, so then he went back and made additional marks to put my husband over the allowed points and fail the test. This was TOTALLY unfair. One of the points was given because my husband didn't have his heel on the floor as he was pressing the brake. What does it matter if he did the braking properly slowing down appropriately to come to a complete stop. How can you do this to someone? It's like just saying to us "no matter what you do I won't pass you." I have contacted the State of Michigan regulators and asked them to investigate the license of this examiner and his fitness for teaching and testing. Mr. Milton is not an appropriate teacher or examiner.

He was clearly very knowledgeable about the rules of the road, explained expectations well, and graded fairly based on my performance. However, my concern is with the overall experience and communication during the test process. On my first attempt, I made a serious mistake by turning left on a red light, which I understand is an automatic failure. I fully accept that outcome. What I found frustrating was that after this happened, we continued driving for another 10-15 minutes before returning to the testing site, without any clear communication that the test had already been failed. As a new driver paying between $70-$120 per test (in my case, $120 twice), I believe it would be more helpful and considerate to either clearly inform the driver that the test has ended or continue the full route so they can better understand what to expect on their next attempt. The lack of communication made the experience confusing and, at times, discouraging. I would also like to comment on the instructor's overall demeanor. While he was knowledgeable and fair in grading, his communication style came across as very blunt and lacked encouragement or basic rapport. There was little effort to create a comfortable or supportive environment before, during, or after the test. While I understand that strictness is part of the role, a more professional and respectful tone would make a significant difference, especially for new drivers who may already be nervous. The instructor then proceeded--despite the instruction to accelerate--to tell me to slow down. The instructor herself is very misleading, and not in the moment. She was emotionally devoid to a point of social sequestration. Furthermore, she also was quite irresponsible. She doesn't care about the wellbeing of her customers, and even went on to disrespect both me and my mother by managing problems with her other customers during our paid time. Where more irresponsibility took manifestation on her behalf was when she was very obscure about where to meet. When asking questions--because inevitably every customer would have to--she would indirectly refuse to answer. Ultimately, the customer is left in a state of obscurity just as the instructor.
