The prices were mixed, but for the most part were fair. What I have a problem with is that the clerk overcharged me and they would not give me an adjustment. I was overcharged by $20.00. I counted the items when I got to the car and when I went back to the clerk I was told they would not correct their error. When the clerk was adding up my items she never told me I should verify her accuracy-after all she was using calculator. I will take part of the blame. I contracted with this business to empty out my Mom's house. The workers did a very good job while on the property. Afterward when I asked about certain items, there was no recollection of what happened to them - Were they donated? Why didn't I get a record of this? The owner only provided blank donation sheets and her photos of the original day I interviewed her at the property. There was very little accountability as to what happened to items that I was in question of - This is not a responsible way to do business. I tried calling and emailing without response. I hate to be the fly in the ointment and rain on the parade of 5-star reviews, but Kim was extremely misleading in quoting and selling the job, lacking in detail in explaining her estimate, evasive in supporting the eventual total costs, and very slow to even attempt to make things right after being paid in full. It was a long and frustrating experience and I would never recommend or refer Kim to a potential client, friend or elder. Me and my ex-wife were selling our house after 22 years of living there. We needed to get rid of a very full houseful of items after many years of accumulation (life). It was a big job -- there was A TON of stuff. Kim was referred to me and she came to the house and met with my ex. She walked through the entire house and got to see, firsthand, the amount of stuff .. the extent of the job .. the amount of clutter. We have a 3,200 square foot house -- and it was FULL. Kim's quote: "Pack/Move $75 per hour, per person ... Dump/donate - Minimum $200 and we only charge for how much we fill up our 6x12 dump trailer ...I estimate your total to be $2340 ... That's for 9 hours and 4 team members to help you." That is the detail provided in her quote. We were uncertain the breakdown between items to be (1) Moved or Stored and (2) Dumped or Donated. What was certain was that IT WAS A TON OF STUFF (no matter what the final destination). My ex-wife packed everything over a period of a few weeks. Everything was packed in boxes, designated to be Moved, Dumped or Donated. It was a yeoman's effort to get to this point -- clearly the greater majority of time and effort to get it to a point where Kim could come to the house and take it away. The moves took place over 2 different days -- one to move to storage (3 people, 3 hours ... someone there the entire time), and the second to take all of the remaining boxes to the dump (3 people, 9 hours ... someone at the house the entire time). The bill came and it was for $7,305 .... WHAT? After approving the charge on my credit card when they called to see if it was a fraudulent charge (mistake), we immediately got in contact with Kim to see why the difference between the quote ($2,340) and the final charges ($7,305). This made no sense, particularly since my ex-wife did all the packing. All that they did was move the stuff (a big effort, no doubt, but over $7,000?). She explained that the move to storage was hourly (OK) and the trips to the dumpster/donate were by the trailer load. Kim had explained that the "by-the-trailer" charge would be beneficial to us, cost-wise, compared to hourly. It was certainly unclear that it was "by-the-trailer" for all dump/donation items and time. And it also was not clear what constituted a $200 truckload or a $600 truckload. None of this was explained clearly up front. So, now we have a $7,305 bill comprised of 9 truckloads for dump/donate at the maximum $600 per load level and 9 hours move/storage for a 3-person team. The move took 3 hours (my ex-wife was with them the whole time). There was not enough time to make 9 trips to the dump in the 9 hours they were at the house (and there were not more than 3 or 4 on that day, generously). We asked Kim why we got charged for 9 hours for the move when it clearly only took 3 hours. She responded that they also charge for "travel time". Bad sidestep, ummm, don't think so. She then said that the moving company who she sub-contracts to charged a minimum of 6 hours. Better sidestep, way to pass the buck. She said they would reimburse us the difference. After 2 months, they did not. Kim eventually reimbursed us about $600 (which she should have done immediately as she is the person we were dealing with) --- making our total cost now $6,700. We NEVER got an explanation about why $600 per truckload (versus the lower possible $200 figure). All-in-all, the $6,700 paid for approximately 12-14 hours of effort by Kim and her company translates to about $500 per hour. To put that in perspective -- throughout this process to get ready to sell, we paid the following: -- Landscaping (1/4 acre lot) -- $4,700 ... about $135/hour -- Handyman ---------------------- $3,550 ... about $75/hour -- Extreme Clean ---------------- $2,500 ... about $105/hour -- Sodding ------------------------- $4,000 ... about $160/hour -- Carpet --------------------------- $1,500 ... about $235/hour -- Painting (inside) -------------- $6,000 ... about $175/hour -- Painting (outside) ------------ $10,000 .. about $250/hour LAWYER, MEDIATION -------- $9,000 ... about $410/hour So .. MOVING BOXES cost more in total than any service except the attorneys for the divorce and the outside painting and repairs .. and was MORE PER HOUR THAN EVERY OTHER SERVICE. Does that make sense to anyone -- it was a big job, but $500 per hour? Kim mislead us on the price and pricing to sell the job. She then charged over 3x the original quote. BE CAREFUL, ESPECIALLY THE ELDERLY. read more
