I first reached out via their Yelp page to inquire about an appointment. They were super responsive even during the days they were closed. You do have to place a credit card on file when you make your appointment. They also contacted me a few hours prior to let me know the hairstylist was available if I'd like to come in sooner which I greatly appreciated. Upon walking in, I was greeted immediately and after completing the new client forms, I was offered a refreshment. I went with red wine and was so surprised at this kindness. My hairstylist was Lindsay and she was AWESOME. She asked me questions and double checked with me on everything she was doing. I ended up going for a drastic cut and she made me feel very reassured about my choice. You get a discount too for it being your first time! Already looking forward to going back for my next trim.

I figured he is a toddler and couldn't stay very still so that is not on the stylist (I ended up giving him a buzzcut once we got home it was so bad). But I stupidly gave it another chance on myself. I asked for a mid-neck length bob with some face framing pieces. The stylist cut my hair to my ears and gave me bangs. I have never been so mortified in my life. I feel so ugly, and there is no way of fixing it other than just letting it grow. (My hair grows incredibly slow.) When I made a comment about the fact that she gave me literal bangs, I got a response of "yea sorry I didn't mean to go up so high". I have given myself better haircuts with kitchen scissors at home. 2 different stylists, 2 different occasions, equally awful experiences. Never again.

My coworker: I went to Melissa in Manchester... Me: That's in my neck of the woods. Give me her contact info. Like...NOW. Well, it went down something like that. I'm trying to catch the enthusiasm and absolutely heart stopping need to get my hair done by whoever crafted what was on my co-worker's head. A phone call or two later, I had an appointment with Melissa. She's very accommodating and knows her stuff. Within a week, I was sitting in her chair and she was doing my hair cut using a technique I've never seen. She seems so casual, chats you up, and all the while she's eyeballing your head and hair 360 degrees. She cuts the hair wet. Then dries it and recuts its. Then she walks around your chair, checking out your hair and will go back in many times to do little tweaks and touch ups. Talk about good with details! You can tell she's been doing this for a long time because if your stylist has such a laid-back attitude while you're in the chair, you're either with an idiot or you're with someone who REALLY KNOWS what they're doing. Melissa definitely hit this cut out of the park. She was able to give me a really nice cut, she took a lot of hair out, gave it a shape, and it still has some length. I really like it. I felt before my hair was blah, which she pointed out what was going wrong with it, and how she would rectify it. And she went above rectifying...she gave me...Beautiful Hair. She is also very much into education. She will give you a ton of styling tips while you sit in the chair and after. She is adamant that if you have any questions, she's just a phone call away. So, to wrap this up, great little studio space, awesome stylist, and great hairstyle. Done. Done. Done. Get your butt over there. You won't regret it even if you have to drive a bit. She's that good.

This isn't a fancy, up-scale salon. Don't expect to be wowed by a modern interior or exterior. The location is in a sort of old plaza in Vernon, and the location itself is a little old-fashioned. However, don't let any of that fool you. I can speak personally for the quality of Janice and Ginger's techniques. They both have been cutting hair for over 30 years. Not only are the prices EXTREMELY reasonable (I regularly pay $25 or less for a shampoo + hair cut), I always leave with a great hair cut. I'm 27 and I have a lot of friends who get a little wigged out going to a salon where the people there have been cutting hair so long, but honestly, I've had $60 hair cuts in fancy salons and been really disappointed. The people at Great Beginnings really listen to you, and they do a fantastic job. They come highly recommended from me!
