I like to start my review with something positive. I ordered the French toast special, which included eggs, bacon, and cranberry juice. The food was cooked perfectly and had great flavor--I really enjoyed the meal overall. However, I was disappointed to find that although the menu stated cranberry juice was included, I was brought a bottled Ocean Spray juice and later charged $4 for it. While the staff did reduce the charge by $2, the pricing was still unclear and felt misleading. If a drink is advertised as part of a special, customers shouldn't be surprised with an extra charge. Clearer communication would go a long way in improving the dining experience. Ask precise questions when dining because the cost was over what was on the menu. read more

I ordered the breakfast deluxe with pancakes, it came with sausage and bacon. The pancakes were fluffy and had a wonderful texture, the bacon was crispy and perfectly cooked. I couldn't decide if I needed coffee because it was very hot outside but I ended up ordering it. I'm so glad I did because it was great. This dinner is very nice inside, clean and organized. My roommates and I were craving breakfast and we saw this place had good reviews. The menu was extensive. They have breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. They also have a kids menu. I needed breakfast in Newark and found Deluxe Diner on Yelp. The food was just fine but where Deluxe stands out is the service. We felt very well taken care of by our server and unfortunately I didn't get her name. She was super attentive and friendly, but left us alone between checking in. We always had what we needed. The breakfast specials include orange juice and coffee. There are refills on the coffee but not the orange juice. You can substitute out turkey bacon and turkey sausage for a small cost. I had the omelette with turkey sausage and home fries. For two of us, the check came out very reasonably, under $20. The bathroom was clean which I appreciated. There is a check in discount of 10% off which they honor when you check out at the register. The Deluxe Diner is everything you could want in a classic neighborhood coffee shop / diner! The place is spotless and cozy and the omelets and home fries are really excellent and reasonably priced. The creamy, flavorful grits are the best I've had anywhere except maybe some places down south and the service is fast and super-friendly. I don't know why but so many places in NJ just can't get it right and have all sorts of completely unnecessary and avoidable problems. The Deluxe has none of that and is a good as any classic coffee shop you'd find in Brooklyn or Queens. A true gem in Newark! read more
