Soup of the day and Ham and Cheese Sandwich
    Claudia D.

This is a cute, old school looking bistro on Main Street. We came in for lunch during the week, so it was quiet. The service was okay, not too friendly. We ordered the soup of the day (leek), which was delicious and flavorful. We also ordered the ham and cheese sandwich on a baguette with butter and a side salad, which was very good! Although we didn't stay for more, we would definitely come back for another quick bite.

Had a lovely lunch with friends. Two of us were familiar with the NYC restaurant. We were greeted warmly by a charming man with a French accent, and seated quickly. Lunch was wonderful! S. loved the escargot, and received extra bread when she asked. R had the pissaladière, and thoroughly enjoyed it. My croque Monsieur was eggy and decadent, and the stone-ground mustard vinaigrette on my salad was delicious! It was actually a light lunch. There isn't much ham or cheese in the sandwich. R's pizza, though, was LOADED with onions. I was almost sorry that I hadn't ordered it.

I have often admired the ambience of Demarchelier Bistro when passing by, and we finally decided to go for a late dinner on a quiet/rainy evening. It's worth mentioning that are open (as of summer 2023) 7 days and stay open later than many of the other restaurants in Greenport. We sat outside and the hostess and server were kind and welcoming, including to our dog. There are a few outdoor tables for two that are sheltered from the rain, another rarity in the area. With the small marble tables and bistro chairs, it is like sitting in front of a cafe in Paris, only without the constant barrage of cigarette smoke- hooray! We had the roasted half chicken and the coq au vin (the latter being a special). Both were quite nice, with the chicken being moist and tender in both cases. (They must have a good chicken supplier, methinks.) I particularly loved the gravy on the roasted chicken, which was peppery and contained morels. While the price point is a bit high to be an everyday casual neighborhood dining spot for me, we'll definitely be back from time to time. I can see this simple, high-quality French comfort food becoming even more appealing as the weather cools.

I enjoyed this French restaurant. The hostess had the best French accent and was very attentive. The salad was very fresh and tasty. My short rib sandwich was worth every bite. Located on the main street in Greenport, you can eat and then continue shopping or enjoy the town. I will go back for more! Enjoy!

Decent lunch menu. Variation and ok service would go again for dinner. Ok, prices are near empty post lunch and pre dinner time.

The best new Bistro on the North Fork is open and ready for your support ! Demarchelier was for over 25 years the go to French family owned bistro on the Upper East Side on Madison Avenue. In late 2019 the family closed the restaurant and sought to find a new home to write the next chapter in their story. Emily Demarchelier found the idea location in Greenport to bring the family style of classic French cuisine to their loyal following. The location is light in daytime and has a cozy Feel making a meal feel more like dining at a family home. The menu is written on a chalk board Visible from all sides of the room.

I've had a lot of clam chowder over the years, and the only bowl that beats this one is from Legal Seafoods in Boston. That's saying a lot. We followed that with the seafood cakes, which were fantastic, and the pork pate, which was excellent as well. The staff was warm and attentive throughout, and our waitress Erica was wonderful, friendly, quick, and clearly knew the menu well. Only note: prices run a bit steep. We stuck to water/appetizers and still walked away with a solid bill for two chowders, one order of seafood cakes, and one order of pork pate. But between the food, the decor, and the overall ambiance, it was very nice experience. Highly recommend.

We found Red Rooster Bistro and thought it looked very cute. It is a lovely little building, looks like a French country house. My mother and I each order the portobello mushroom, her with cheese and me without cheese. We also ordered the beet salad. My brother had the pasta and my sister in law had chicken and salad. They loved their pasta and chicken. My mother and I were not as thrilled. The mushroom was tiny, buried under greens. I had expected a decent sized mushroom but ours were so small. I am glad we also ordered the beet salad, which was mostly greens but the beets were good. They also ordered the flourless chocolate cake, which they enjoyed. The server was excellent, and I enjoyed my glass of wine. I also loved the ambiance. French restaurants are always a bit of a challenge for me ( I am vegan) but honestly, they need to use bigger mushrooms and maybe add a veggie burger to the menu?

Ah, Paris in Springtime…read more. Reading that brought you to a nice moment? Me too. I would have loved to come to Demarchelier in April, sipping on cocktails outside by the Peconic Bay. I read the Newsday piece about Demarchelier, how the family packed up their fathers restaurant on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and relocated to Greenport. I'm planning out Valentines Day, normally we'd stay in NYC for the weekend but the times we're living in have made our choices limiting so we're stay close to home. I made a reservation and took a beautiful drive out east to Greenport. Located in the chic Menhaden Hotel, the hostess seated us at a nice window table. I quickly glance at a large table with two patrons, I thought that was strange as we're seated. I ordered for my French-Canadian-Brooklyn wife a glass of French Rose wine and I'm feeling celebratory so I ordered a French 75 for myself. I have to admit, my French 75 was "different", is that lavender that gave it that hue? The cocktail choices were limiting, I was expecting more. As for beer, I would have loved to see my favorite French beer Jenlain but I chose Duvel. The Valentine's Day Brunch menu is filled with love! We started with a pate which had us swooning! Sooo good and highly recommended. My wife ordered the Smoked Salmon Plate and I ordered the Croque Monsieur for our Brunch of love. While we're waiting for our food to arrive, my wife is texting me. ?? She texted - Donna Karan is sitting at the table behind us. Seeing celebrities on the south shore is common. On the North Shore is rare, either way, I'm not sharing my pommes frites with her if she decides to stroll around the restaurant. My Croque Monsieur, cutting through the gruyere and béchamel sauce to the ham is one of my simple pleasures. While we're enjoying our brunch meals, I'm hearing the staff in the kitchen and they're laughing. It was the type of laugh from enjoyment. It took me by surprise because honestly, over the past 12 months its been what's missing and something that shouldn't be taken for granted. Demarchelier, it was our pleasure to spend Valentine's Day here.
