Tiny Lychee Martini & Shelter Island Beer served in a can

After reading about Demarchelier's relocation from NYC to Greenport we were expecting a very good dinner, but apparently their culinary and interpersonal skills did not travel well out east. Demarchelier required a credit card to secure the reservation on Resy even though we were staying at The Menhaden where it's located. Normally that's only required by busy exclusive restaurants so I expected a bustling scene when we arrived. Au contraire, we were one of only two occupied tables. Okay I thought it's a Thursday evening so perhaps things will pick up.....never happened the place remained nearly empty. First we stood awkwardly at the entrance for about 10 minutes, then our haughty server slowly strolled over to seat us. The menu app wasn't working, and instead of bringing over a paper menu or telling us about the short menu our server frowned and tried to bring the menu up on her own phone for another 10 minutes. After failing to complete that task (apparently Demarchelier's site was down at the time), she went outside and slowly schlepped the entire menu board into the restaurant for us to look at - but only after speaking lengthily to a family seated at the outside table. No apologies or smiles, just rude Gallic eye rolling the whole time. Lychee martini priced at $17 was Lilliputian in size and not well balanced. Beer was canned, kinda crass at their price point. Started with an evening special app of mushroom soup, a personal fave so was dismayed when a cup of thick dark brown glop arrived that was as unappetizing to look at as it was to choke down. (Hunger provided the requisite impetus and I was raised in the Clean Plate Club). Our server boldly commented that the chef puts too much pepper in the soup so it wasn't very good, quite right on that point! I chose the coq au vin as my entree, but the server said the chef hadn't marinated the chicken that night (WTF?) so it wasn't available. Wish she had told me that sooner or crossed the item off of the menu board. Decided to go with the hangar steak with shallot sauce instead, big mistake! The meat was gristly, tough, almost raw and covered with a thin sauce like dirty dishwater. Couldn't finish that. Bread was stale and dry. On the plus side, my companion's moules frites were fairly good and his escargot app was good but tiny so grossly overpriced at $17.50. Hence the two stars. This was our first meal in Greenport and one of our worst ever; happily our following dinners were all very good. In the circumstances I do NOT recommend Demarchelier at all.

Atmosphere shot. External dining al fresco.

New York City Upper East Side neighborhood French bistro Demarchelier moved after 25 years to Greenport on the North Fork where they have spent the summer as a pop-up at a local boutique hotel. The family are very hands on in ensuring the authenticity of the cuisine and quality of dishes and service. A very pleasant experience to while away the afternoon. In addition plans to open their own Bistro this Fall are well advanced - looking forward !

Overpriced, cheap ingredients, appetizer sized entrees, overpriced bad wine. Would not recommend and will not return.

So tonight I wrapped things up in Greenport and I really wanted to stop and try Aldos. I'm so glad I did. Espresso is my coffee of choice, especially as an Americano, and Aldos espresso is oh so good! Pair that with a nicely decorated store, super chill music and a killer view of the water and I was instantly in love. I didn't have any baked treats, definitely next time, as this will be a go to spot for now on. I am sure you'll like it too. I'm placing this in my top five spots with a solid tie for spot number two! Last but not least, I have to say the staff was super friendly and not pushy at all, I know I came in late maybe 45 minutes before closing, but they treated me as nice as if they just opened. Great job! Edit: Forgot to mention I grabbed a pound of espresso for home. Cant wait to grind some up!

I ordered the Cafe Mocha and it was delicious. It was the perfect ratio of espresso to chocolate and not overly sweet which I always appreciate. Service was super friendly and very quick despite how busy the place was. Being able to sit outside overlooking the marina was a very relaxing and enjoyable vibe. Definitely enjoyed my visit and will be coming back.

Pancakes, omelettes, eggs bennie, burgers, soups and other cafe (or diner) classics round out their menu. And ice cream! Due to our party size and our dog, we sat outside near the back parking, which had abandoned-looking seating (broken, dirty, etc.). However, it was shaded and you could hear the music next door. There's also 3 two-person tables near the entrance outside around the corner. The inside is retro and feels like you're dining inside a cozy house and an ice cream bar (Hershey's brand). It felt bustling as a standard diner on a weekend. Service (5/5): When we were walking toward the exterior back, the people outside near side entrance, had warned us that the service was abysmal. We loitered near the corner to let the waitress know we were wanting to get seated in the back (basically away from sight). Once seated, she came back and wiped down the dirty tables (which I'm sure no one usually opts to sit at due to their state). We immediately placed our orders before she went away. I think by doing so, our food came out lightning fast. She also came to check in on us twice throughout our dining. Sausage & Cheddar Flatbread Scramble (3/5): Expect an omelet on a piece of flatbread. The bread did not taste very good (perhaps store bought?) The home fries were deliciously crunchy. Breakfast Burrito (3/5): Nothing really stood out about the burrito. Croissant French toast (3/5): I liked how it wasn't too sweet with the filled cream but it felt like it was missing something. The addition of the table maple syrup definitely helped. I think next time, I would opt for the regular French toast.
