I was so happy to find this place when I was in town for a wedding. Two of us wanted blowouts the day of the rehearsal and they were so easy to book with. They texted me back after I left a message and had exactly the openings I needed a week before the big day, and did not bat an eye or up the price for working with my friend's extensions when I informed them upon booking. If I could give this salon more than 5 stars, I would! I've been salon-hopping since I moved to Pittsburgh earlier this year, unable to find the right stylist to do my cut or color. After being disappointed by a number of salons locally, I looked up the reviews for Denham & Co., and they did not steer me the wrong way! I read the glowing reviews and decided to reach out to the salon via Yelp's reservation feature late in the evening. I received a prompt response from Rick, and he was so accommodating- he was able to get me in the next day (a Saturday afternoon). I was able to share photos of what I wanted, ahead of time (through the app). Even though I wanted a fresh balayage, I had asked them to call the Aveda salon in Novi, MI (Salon Agape), for the previous formula that was used last year (and lo behold, they never documented it in their system). Luckily, my stylist, Cayla, already knew exactly what to do without wasting a second! She is a true artist. She gave me EXACTLY what I wanted, based on the Pinterest picture I showed her. She was also very friendly and patient with my questions. After the color, she took about 14 seconds to cut my hair and give me a complete mood boost! This lady knows what she's doing and I'm so glad I listened to the reviews! The price was reasonable and well worth it. The best part is that this salon is a stone's throw from my apartment! I had my ponytail cut there in November, and I showed the hairdresser what I was looking for, and to be honest, it was a really easy cut, a basic hairdressing technique. However, I ended up with a ponytail that looked like it had been chewed by a dog. The whole ponytail was a mess of different lengths! Short and ugly! I asked for a refund and was contacted by the hairdresser to go back in for adjusting, my home is far away and I don't trust their techniques at all. Then I thought about waiting for my hair to grow long and see what would happen. Now, two months later, it has finally grown a little. But the marks of "dog bite" are more obvious, and the clutter caused by the whole length is more obvious! My friend said my hair was funny and I felt really angry. About a year ago, I called my friends in a total panic when my then stylist over-processed my brown hair and turned half of it white. I needed someone good and I needed someone fast to fix the fiasco. By majority vote, Tim won. It was the best decision I've made. (He fixed it, it took a couple of trips and a few tears, but he saved me a lot of strange looks.) You should probably be comfortable around dogs. They bring one of their many rescue pups to the shop every day. That is my favorite part, there is always a super well-behaved pup to play with. Now for the services, Tim is the only one I've gone to. However, all of the staff makes you feel pampered, from the fuzzy footstool during hair washing to always offering a beverage. From the time you step through the door, everyone does their best to make you feel beautiful. And the results I've seen from Tim and the other stylists are amazing. They can do everything from traditional to edgy. There is someone to fit everyone's taste. The new space is gorgeous. This review is for a waxing service only, but I felt compelled to write it because of the excellent service I received. I leave for vacation tomorrow and have frantically been trying to find a salon to get my eyebrows done. My fault for waiting until the last minute, but I never realized that so many places don't have Sunday (or even Saturday) availability. When I saw Denham had Sunday hours, I called to find out if they had any appointments. They technically had no openings, but the receptionist asked the stylist if they were able to fit me in and thankfully, they were. I was impressed with the willingness to fit someone in who was a first time caller to the salon. The salon itself is bright and airy. I really love the look and it has that signature Aveda smell to it. I was greeted promptly and cheerfully by the receptionist and offered tea, coffee or water. The waiting area has comfy couches and chairs, along with a lot of reading material. The waxing is done in a dimly lit, relaxing back room. The table was comfortable and long enough (I'm 6' tall and it is surprising how many salon/spa tables aren't actually long enough for me). The waxing itself was awesome. I'm not sure what kind of magic she worked, but I usually wince in pain and get pretty teary, but before I knew it, she was done (and even tweezed a few chin hairs too). It was a pretty quick wax service, but it was done extremely well and reasonably priced. I enjoyed my experience at this salon and would definitely return. read more

Come here. It's the best salon in Pittsburgh, hands down, especially for the blondes out there. Not only do they do a great job with hair, but they know how to run a business and are immensely professional. Plus, it's an Aveda salon. I had to reschedule twice, the second time being a no show because I put the wrong date in my calendar. Given the nature of the business, I know it is really frustrating when a customer does that, and I appreciated their professionalism and grace in handling the situation. Further, the day after my cut, I received a follow-up call asking if I was happy with my experience, hair, etc. My hair (balayage and cut) is exactly as I envisioned it. I was hesitant to go somewhere new, but Cayla did a fantastic job and was very personable. Not to mention the price was so reasonable, I was surprised when I heard the total. I don't scrimp on my hair, but it's great when you're getting the best AND it doesn't break the bank. Marianna created the most beautiful hair style for me that you see in the picture. She listened to exactly what I was saying and created something way better that what I had intended. I go here regularly for my hair cuts. I have had various stylists and have NEVER had a bad cut! I love the entire atmosphere of this place. From when you walk in and are greeted by the friendly front desk staff, to the amazing hair wash, to then the great cut done by any of the stylists... It's always a good experience. It doesn't hurt that this is an Aveda salon which happens to be my favorite hair and beauty line (the aroma of the products radiate through the salon and it smells AMAZING)! I've come to appreciate the value of a great haircut by a skilled stylist. While my $15 haircuts at the local chop shop were cheap, quick and effective, my decision to shift to an Aveda salon about 2 years ago was a much needed change and my hair / cut consistently looks great. It, of course, comes with a higher cost, but the value is worth it. When I relocated back to Pittsburgh in late spring I was in need of an Aveda salon in or near downtown. After a search on the Aveda website, I made an appointment at Denham & Co, they helped me book an appointment with the stylist Cayla and I had a wonderful experience. Cayla was a great stylist who is skilled at her craft and personable. The price was as expected for the quality, and was advised to me when I made the appointment. The salon is located downtown just off Market Square on the second floor of the Diamond Building the salon overlooks Liberty and Fifth. The space was bright and cozy, smelling of signature Aveda scents. Salon dogs roaming about were a delightful surprise. This is the best salon around! My mother and I made a last minute appointment to get our hair done, and everyone was lovely and accommodating from the first phone call to when we left. We both had (due to quarantine boredom) Splat hair dye stuck in our hair. Kayla did a marvelous job transforming me from drab to fab. The owner himself, Tim, absolutely worked magic on my mother's hair. She went from dingy blue-green to strawberry blonde, which took 4 hours, and he was so patient and kind the whole time. The entire staff was chatting with us and making us feel special and welcome during our appointments, and we had so much fun. If you're looking to be treated like royalty, Denham and Co. is IT!! Marianna saved me from the aftermath of a bad haircut from the week before. She listened to my concerns, evaluated the state of my hair, and made excellent suggestions. After I moved to Pittsburgh almost 2 years ago, I tried Denham and Co. based on reviews and they did not disappoint. They are always quick to respond and are accommodating. Plus, there's usually a dog there to pet while you're waiting, so how could it really get better than that? While I have liked all of the stylists that I have had there, Nicole is BY FAR as good as it gets. She's so friendly & upbeat, making her easy to talk to. I am a particular person; however, she listened 100% to what I wanted and delivered flawlessly. If I could give Denham and Company 6 stars I would. I have been getting my hair done by Tim for years. It all started with my mother seeing him when she was my age and we've sworn by him since. This year, I moved to Washington DC and decided to dye my bleach blonde hair dark brown, and of course, I was not happy. The only person I trusted to fix my hair was Tim. Tim knew that my schedule was crazy and that I needed to plan an entire weekend to come home and have my hair done. Knowing how unhappy I was with my impulsive decision, he came in on his day off and booked me in for a few hours so that he could bring me back to blonde the right way, without ruining my hair. And let me mention that this wasn't the first time Tim has done this for me. I did the same exact thing 4 years ago. Both times Tim was incredibly patient and I left loving my hair, which can be impossible after such drastic changes. Tim is one of the only people I trust with my hair. He knows exactly what I want and I always leave the salon with amazing hair and feeling beautiful. On top of being an talented stylist, Tim is one of the most genuine people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. He holds himself and the entire salon staff to the highest standards. I have had VERY bad luck when it comes to hair stylists. So much so, I expect to leave with orange highlights and an uneven cut. Determined to change my luck, I researched and researched and finally made an appointment with Jaimee at Denham and Co. Jackpot! Jaimee is beyond amazing. She listened to all of my concerns and was very patient with me while I attempted to explain what I wanted. She could not have been kinder. I went from over processed blond orange highlights and and uneven, bad cut to bright blond highlights with an amazing layered cut, with out comprising the integrity of my hair which Jaimee was very careful with. And, an added bonus - Jaimee was incredibly fun to work with. I felt like I've known her my entire life and had a great time talking to her. Just as I was about to give up on finding a downtown hair salon, I found Denham & Company and Dan! Quite a nice cut and those yummy Aveda products, to boot. Comfortably eclectic is how I'd describe the shop in Market Square just to the right of NOLA and up a steep flight of stairs. Antiques on beautiful hardwood floors interspersed with contemporary salon chairs make for warm and friendly surroundings, which is just exactly what I found in the staff, too...warm and friendly AND skilled. I've been going to this salon for 15 years (since I was a little girl) and despite my biased, great history with it, I can objectively say that this is the BEST salon I've ever been to. I don't live in Pittsburgh anymore, and any time I get my hair cut anywhere else, it's too expensive and not nearly good enough. Some highlights (heh) of Denham & Co: - Relatively cheap ($25 for an ordinary women's cut) - Wide range of staff with different personal styles (you'll definitely find someone who gets you) - Experienced staff (most of the stylists have been there for many years) - Comfortable, eclectic environment with antiques (doesn't feel too sterile or "perfect") - Aveda products (herbal goodness) - Friendly staff who actually listen to you (not snobby or stand-offish like many salons) I don't have any specific recommendations of staff (although I love John's style and cuts) because they're all great for different reasons. Ask the receptionist, they'll be sure to tell you who would work for you. (Also, it's in a loft above a wonderful coffee shop! Can't beat that.) read more

I wanted all over highlights but with highlights in the front and low lights in the back. Nicole painted my highlights instead of foiling them which cut the time in half. I enjoyed my experience at Denham and company. I was happy to be able to get an appt for Saturday morning only a few days beforehand with Hilary who is excellent with blow outs for us curly heads. She did an exceptional job and my blow out was runway pretty afterwards. It only took her one hour to wash and complete my process with my thick head of hair which is kudos for her. For Hilary's talent - 5 stars! Here's the kicker and lack of stars for the overall rating. I hate having to search for parking and given that this location is smack dab in the middle of market square, parking wasn't easy. Free parking is near impossible. - Minus one star. This place has not had a functioning website for over a year [I've checked habitually] - hence near impossible to get a sense of the pricing at this establishment beforehand. Hence, there was a bit of sticker shock for me at the payment counter when my price came to $65 without tip. I always leave a great tip given my curly thick locks so it was quite a bit higher than my previous salon blow out experiences at Capristo and MCN salon in shadyside [both of which have easy free parking, and a cooler modern ambience]. - Minus one more star. End of story - probably won't be back. Still have a bunch of other salons to try for a last minute blow out before the weekend. However, if you do go to Denham - leave plenty of time for parking and ask for Hilary, she is quite talented and thorough! read more

I have been going to this salon almost 6 years. I was very nervous when I first moved to Pittsburgh about finding a good Aveda salon with people who are not just friendly and kind but also committed and care for their work. Everyone here is very friendly and very nice. No pretentious people here. They suggested Jamie to me the first time and I have had her since then. She is very good at what she does and handled my Indian thick hair very nicely. It may not seem like a big deal but in my previous encounters I have realized that it takes experience to work with non-american hair. My hair is wavy in some areas and plain-ol' non-manageable in other areas. Through out the years Jamie has given me the exact look I wanted and also tried new things when I was ready for a change. She has given me suggestions on what products to use and sometimes those products are simple off the shelf products that are not from Aveda. She is always honest with me about what to use and how to use it and has never pushed anything that I did not want. I am a big fan of Aveda products in itself and Jamie always gave me her honest opinion. The products they use to color my hair is very good quality and it deep conditions my hair as it colors it. My hair quality has improved a lot. I wish I could take this salon and Jamie with me as I move again. read more
