This review is wellllllll overdue! I've been in therapy for 6 years but I stumbled upon Denise back in November 2021. I looked at 2 sites & saw her on both, one site said she wasn't accepting client but I jst knew she was the one. Long story short, she accepted me as a patient & I am forever grateful of her!! Our first visit, she made me feel so comfortable, like I was visiting an aunt who didn't take no shit but in a good way! She was jst wht I needed! I ended up ditching my group therapy sessions & seeing Denise 2 times a week... we've done 1 on 1s, EMDR, and even couples therapy. She actually saved my relationship & we are now married. Denise is God sent!! She doesn't judge, which was a HUGE deal for me. Although she is a therapist & this is her career, she doesn't make you feel as though you are just another patient to her. She genuinely cares for her patients mental health. I dnt knw how many times, I've sat across frm her crying my eyes out & even though she wasn't hugging me, I felt as though she was. She has truly become my safe haven. She greets you with smiles and not the usual therapist greeting. Her office is welcoming. Her energy is peaceful. She's overall the best!!! When I first started seeing her, I was broken, lost, hurt ... I was literally at the lowest I had ever been and she saved me. I now have boundaries, I make time for ME, better communication skills, I have confidence tht I didn't have before, MY SKIN IS CLEAR!!!, I've been able to mend relationships and even forgive ppl tht I swore I'd NEVER speak to again! Therapy in general is not always an easy thing to start. After searching for months for the right therapist, I was lucky enough to stumble across Denise - after 17 cold emails to potential therapists, Denise was the only one who responded to me (to this day) and I am beyond lucky that was the case. Our first few sessions were groundbreaking and for the first time, I felt heard and seen and didn't feel lectured to as I had felt with other therapists. Denise helped me overcome my social anxieties and past trauma at my own pace and helped me every step of the way to find tools that worked in my everyday life. I found Denise Brady through the Therapy for Black Girls website a few months ago and I am so glad that I did. Denise is approachable, attentive, and really strives to help you work through whatever it is that you are going through. I was nervous about having to meet virtually, but the appointments have been amazing. Denise has given me space to be introspective and break down some walls and work through pain I have been holding in. I had been search for a counselor for over two years. After searching for a few months I found Dr.Brady. I had a lot of past trauma both generational and personal. During our first session I felt lighter than I had felt in years. We were able to shift pain that I held onto for years in one session. Dr. Brady has provided a safe and judgement free atmosphere. Furthermore, which I failed to mention previously. I called Brady and requested a break from her sessions because they were so stressful for me I always ended up distressed and crying and I disclosed that I was already having counseling having had been a victim of a life-threatening violent crime earlier in the year. Her response to my need for just a break lacked compassion and was barely professional. After learning of my fragile situation, which I really shouldn't have told her because obviously she could not have cared less, she then went on to accuse me of "not being willing" to finish and being "difficult" to a judge in an effort to help the other party who again, was paying her directly and not through insurance. She disclosed to me about private conversations had between the two and things they'd discussed which I believed to be inappropriate and petty. She also kept in contact with his attorney who also furnished her letter to our judge and used it to paint me in a negative light. I am and have ALWAYS been a single mother and don't have the availability a single "childless" man has yet Brady attempted to belittle me over several occasions due to my time limitations being a full time stay at home mom but acknowledged constantly his "busy" schedule. Mind you these sessions were an hour! My child was 3 at the time and if any of you know, you're not having a private conversation for an hour with ANYONE if it is just you and your child home. (And these were awful awful conversations you pray a child never hears) The lack of understanding or grace or just any kind of kindness from this Black woman was out of this world. I got to experience being in her "care" as someone not paying her and boy was it rough. But God bless her heart! read more

I also loved her description because she seemed to specialize in things that I needed help with. I have Kaiser and was having problems getting her approved, but she walked me through the process. Immediately, she was very responsive and pro-active about scheduling the appointment, which I really appreciated. I've enjoyed working with Denise for several reasons: she extends empathy and validates my feelings; she is skilled in untangling complex emotions; she assigns assignments that are attainable, and shes has a great sense of humor. It was really important for me to find a therapist who could provide a safe space for me to grow and challenge myself.
