Love. Love. Loved Love. OK, I think maybe the company had a little something to do with it, but seriously, get your butt here and try this place out! You snake your way through the building, up the steps and look for the almost non-descript door and you enter into a swanky oasis. The perfect mood lighting and music (not too loud). Great for groups or really getting to know that someone special. They have walls of glass, and you are right on top of the action on the street which lends itself to some fun people watching. The quiet, hidden gem within the bustling city... Several things worth noting about Denmark: First, I felt like I was a character on Mad Men. The swanky vibe was seeping out of the walls. To add to the aforementioned "swanky-ness", the location is somewhat hidden on the second floor of the building. It feels like a secret hideout where all the cool/classy kids drink. Most importantly, they have an extensive craft cocktail selection. I had a mule and gin & tonic. Both were on point. Service was impeccable. A bartender immediately greeted us and brought us menus. He made sure we had the next drink coming as we finished the previous one. I never like to see an empty glass in front of me. Lastly, it's fairly quiet during the week. There were only a few people at the bar and at a table. Overall, it's a pretty intimate bar. So, when you feel like channeling your inner Don Draper, Denmark is the place in this city. read more

Denmark was a pure surprise. We walked up the flight of stairs with hesitation, thinking that it would be a lame club lounge type place, but man were we wrong. The interior was open and had a relaxing vibe to it with a very transparent bar - you can see everything they're doing (they don't have an actual kitchen, everything's done behind the bar). Drinks: it's extensive. And the best part? Denmark is a great contender to Curio. Average price of a drink is $10. Ingredients are amazingly magical. Came here for happy hour before a concert. Drinks were tasty. I had the Gato's black cat punch and my fiancé had the old fashioned. Food was ok. The flatbread tasted like a Totino's frozen pizza. Cheese and crackers were sliced cheddar, provolone and Munster with Carr's water crackers. I would have preferred something better than a cheese plate I could make from Kroger. Service was slow. Came here with my girlfriend and a few others. Just a really terrible experience from the start. Our waiter talked badly about another party then proceeded to never come back to our table after our first round of drinks. I eventually walked around trying to find him but ended up telling another waiter I ran into what happened and he eventually made his way over. We decided to close out and he promptly went forward with completely messing up our checks right after asking us specifically who had what. Keep in mind we only had two drinks per person!! I really like this hidden bar, decorated in mostly IKEA furniture. Its pretty unique for Columbus, that the bar is upstairs and has a secret cellar for private events. The cocktails are pretty good and they even had a pride flight for pride weekend. The bright colors and unique furniture, made even brighter by the floor to ceiling windows looking over high street, give the bar a fresh coffeehouse vibe. The split between bar seats, high tops, and cozy chairs offers a variety seating options perfect for any casual gathering. It's worth talking with the staff when ordering a drink since they love recommending new things to try. If you prefer to see what you're getting into, their menu contains an extensive list of classic cocktails as well as brand new house crafted concoctions. We helped a friend celebrate her birthday at Denmark, and given our recent experience with Two Truths (which is truly fantastic), we had high expectations -- perhaps too high, to be honest. We arrived around 7:30 on a Friday, and the place was about half full. Denmark is surprisingly spacious, with lots of comfortable seating in the form of couches and low tables, plus some traditional tables and (of course) a long bar. Being on the second floor of a building, you can look out the large windows over High Street, if you're so inclined, though the atmosphere of the lounge itself is enjoyable enough on its own. My girlfriend and I had three cocktails altogether, and it pains me to admit that I cannot recall their names (and as of this review, the spring menu has not been uploaded to Denmark's website). I will say that the menu is surprisingly large, with approximately 50 drinks overall. One of the cocktails my girlfriend ordered sounded intriguing, as it had a curiously "meaty" theme -- bacon infused vodka, as I recall, and various other complementary flavors. Unfortunately, both she and I found it to be pretty vile, but the waitress (Alisha), who was lingering as we sipped, immediately suggested that we could get another drink instead...gratis. How nice! We're not the kind of people who would send things back just because we don't like them, but we took Alisha up on her offer nonetheless and received something a bit more traditional (and palatable!). Honestly, I can imagine that some people could really dig the...er...pork drink, but just not us. I also had a cocktail that featured yerba matte and sported a warning that it was "highly caffeinated," and I quite enjoyed it (though I must admit that I was hoping it would come close to the Up and Up I'd had at Two Truths, and it did not). All told, our Denmark experience was a positive one, and along with Bottle Shop and Two Truths, this place makes up a sort of unofficial trifecta of "chill cocktail lounges" in Columbus. All of them have their own unique atmospheres, and all are comparably priced etc. -- it just comes down to personal preference as to which place fits your interests the best. Even though Denmark may not be my "go-to" cocktail lounge, I'd still highly recommend it for any number of reasons. read more

Cool place with great specialty cocktails, but I'm not sure I would come back outside of happy hour Stopped in on a Tuesday night not expecting to see a big crowd, but we were the only ones there. Excited to try their extensive list of cocktails, I ordered an Old Cuban, which was made with close attention to detail and tasted fantastic. We tried ordering a small dessert, but we were told that they had neither of the two desserts on their menu, which was a bummer, but later on in the night a staff member brought over a tray of Bourbon Balls, which were delicious. The eclectic vibe was lost on me though, as it seemed more alienating than inviting, but that might also have been the fact that only one other group came in while we were there. We wanted to like this place more than we did. We had gone to Bareburger beforehand which is right downstairs and already had a couple cocktails there which were simple, but great--and then went upstairs to Denmark. The high seating is a bit uncomfortable and though there were banquettes to the side, it looked unwelcoming and dark so we sat in the tall chairs. The decor is uninspired and a sad imitation of Scandinavian design, which I love but this comes off as Cheap Euro. Now the drinks: we had a hard time picking two from the menu because it was the most unappealing sweet sounding drink list ever.There were many to choose from though--it was a bit much to look at. We considered leaving then and probably should have. And the drinks were awful. Super sweet. The sazerac my partner had was so sweet she couldn't drink it. Gross. And we've had a lot of good sazeracs in Columbus. I ordered a Cuban cocktail with rum and bubbly of some sort--which was less sweet but had a weird aftertaste. Experienced, high-end bartenders often take a straw and sip a taste to make sure it tastes good--they should try that here. This is one of those places that know they like a concept and they're trying to replicate it--but just don't get there. And for the price point, it's definitely not worth it. Really disappointing. P.S. Bareburger drinks were even better so just go there and try their Spicy Pickle martini instead. read more

Service from both bartenders was exceptionally friendly and welcoming, even to our rather large and loud group. Music was at the perfect volume level. What more could you ask for in a bar. The only negative feedback, and it is very trivial, is the place was a bit too well lit at 9:00 PM when we got there. I prefer my bar ambiance slightly dimmer. We stopped in here for some after-work happy hour drinks. The atmosphere is really nice and casual yet sophisticated. This place is NOT very accessible for those with leg/walking mobility issues as it is upstairs. The second floor location gives a nice view of the street. With one full wall of windows and some small tables and seating areas and larger seating areas for a few larger groups this is a great place to have a few drinks or to have a special get-together. My first drinks (I believe it was a garden drink) was good but nothing to rave about. My second drink was their special mule. This drink was incredible! Yes. Would recommend. The others in my group also had good drinks and a few REALLY great ones. The waitstaff was really nice and kept our water glasses full and the drinks coming. I agree - this is the hidden gem everyone should check out! A group of us came for happy hour and to check out Hai Poke's kitchen takeover/pop-up. Luckily, I work and run downtown and had noticed the entrance (a stairwell door right of Bareburger) and made my way up to the second floor. Very nice view, great modern décor. The bar is walled off from the entrance, which keeps the kitchen/bar/staff noise down in the main dining area. The floor-to-ceiling windows facing the convention center are very cool. While it looks "swank," I never got the too-cool-for-you vibe from either the staff or fellow customers. Our server was friendly even though we peppered her with questions all. night. long. Our drinks and food were timed well and made our night fairly seamless. Their drinks menu is everything you never even knew you wanted or needed from your booze. Beer cocktails, classic and traditional mixers, a margarita, or a damn mojito - Denmark will make you the best you've had/never had before. The drinks are pricey, but the prices are reflective of the quality you are getting. While we were there, another table ordered a sazerac - an absinthe cocktail served from a smoking flask with lemon oil extracted by burning a lemon peel. Denmark is not doing halfway! We tried French 76 (a champagne cocktail), dark and stormy (artfully presented as the name implies), the sangria (a good choice for those of us who need a little alcoholic reminder lest we end up on the floor before the end of the evening - the gin they add provides), a cosmopolitan (like the best Fruity Pebble flavor, a good thing), and a pineapple upside-down (a flip that wasn't nearly as sweet as expected). Also - the saison shandy, a beer cocktail that no matter how much you stir, that honey vanilla OYO is gonna give you two strong shots at the end. Fair warning, but it is excellent. Their happy hour consists of a dozen or so simple/traditional cocktails, sangria and punch (both with gin) - for $6. Beers are $2 off menu price, and they have wine (either $5 or $6), Bonus! Denmark's happy hour goes until 7pm. They also offer $5 small plates/shareables. We got the house pickle plate - dilly beans, red cabbage, hot pepper rings, green tomatoes, mushrooms, pineapple, and cucumbers - all kinds of flavors and textures and lots of briny goodness. While they were on a limited menu due to Hai Poke being there (see my review for Hai if you want those deets), they do have flatbreads, small plates and the like. Their pimento cheese was good, and they had flavored pretzels on offer, too. This is definitely a fun happy hour, pre-game or post-work kind of place that is both throwback and super-modern. Great bar for drinks, food, and conversation. I've been there many times and always gotten great service from the friendly staff. Cocktails use custom made infusions rather than common syrups. More expensive, but worth it. The liquor is all darn close to top shelf. The food is surprisingly good for having only one tiny oven. The reason I gave 5 stars to Denmark isn't because they're so unique and different. It is a very cozy establishment (the upstairs of the former Yankee Trader) and the drink menu is quite nice. But again, nothing I haven't seen in the food/drink haven of Columbus. No, Denmark gets 5 stars from me because on top of a very nice food and drink menu, customer service is their #1 priority. After the debacle that was Comfest this past Saturday, where everyone got doused in the monsoon, some friends and I went there to dry off and have some food. Not only did they turn down the A/C so we wouldn't freeze, they gave us towels to sit on and dry off with, pressed coffee to drink, and constantly made sure we had everything we needed multiple times. I've been to few restaurants with the high level of customer attention as Denmark. I was already recommending this restaurant to many folks, but now I'll be recommending it to everyone I know. I was more than pleasantly surprised by Denmark. The location and setting are great, the atmosphere was fun, friendly and inviting - there were tons of different types of seating. I love to try new things so the drink menu, which places each drink on a sweetness scale, was inspired. The food was mostly small plates - but eclectic and delicious. The goat cheese salad might be my new favorite. I would recommend Denmark to anyone who's looking for something new in the Arena District. Great place! read more

I was in town for a conference and Denmark was the key location for the conference's after party! It's very close to the Hyatt and convention center, which is great for walking to and from purposes. It's a snazzy little bar in the Arena District. The inside is really interesting and really well designed. They have all sorts of neat chairs and tables to sit and talk and there seems to be two levels to the place. The upstairs has a full bar and lots of room, and then there's the basement with a wine/cheese "cellar" and a larger open space, and in this instance, the open space was converted into a karaoke bar. I had a really great time here! Cocktails can be a bit on the expensive side, but they are made very well, but I tended to stick with the $2 PBRs myself. Definitely a fun time! read more

I have been one time with friends, for drinks before going out to dinner. It was crowded when we arrived, and rather loud. But the atmosphere was casual, and the server was really friendly. My martini was great! The friends I was with told me that they had been there several times and that Denmark has become one of their favorites for the downtown / Short North area. According to them, on some nights it's packed while on others it is almost empty. With a large window front looking onto High Street from the second floor, it seems like a great place to sit and people-watch. I'll be back again! read more
