Dennis's 24 Hour Welding, located behind the Mr Cecil's California Ribs on Pico just west of Bundy, is a real find! I drove up yesterday to find out if he could weld the broken housing that holds the license plate on the rear of my truck. My dealer couldn't do it, and body shops wanted more than $100 to replace the entire piece..which I knew it didn't need. Dennis told me to come back today at 1pm, go have a nice lunch at Teddy's Cafe, and he'd have it done by 2 for just 20 bucks. And sure enough, that's exactly what I got! (Not to mention, a great inexpensive meal at Teddy's, but that's for a different review.) He even told me exactly what he'd done...who still takes the time to do that anymore? Guys like Dennis are a national treasure and a dying breed. Please bring him all your broken metal stuff to weld so he stays in business. read more

The entrance gate to my property has an electric arm that detached from the gate (old, rusted). I called a couple of gate companies and got a quote of $325 and $225 to weld it back on. I called Dennis and he quoted me $175.00 to come out and do the job. He said he could do it the next day in the morning. I told him I'd was hoping to get it done the same day. He bitched about traffic and said he'd call me around four. He called at four and made his way up to my house. He showed up with his son and pulled in to my driveway. I watched a bit as the duo struggled to get the truck turned around (everybody does) and then I offered to do it for him. He said "fuck no" lol. When they finally got the truck turned around they immediately got to work on the gate. We had a great conversation about security cameras, dogs and hot rods. He's a really cool old dude but some people may be put off by his gruffness. After reading the Yelp reviews I was actually looking forward to meeting the guy. They got the welding done and even added a couple of spiked pieces to the top of the gate that had fallen off. He charged me $175 as quoted and told me to stop by the shop anytime. If you need some welding done hit this guy up, if not just for the refreshing change of character from the usual westside yuppies. read more

I'm tempted to write a detailed review of what took place when I visited this business today but I'm hoping to high heaven that the proprietor (Dennis, I presume?) was just having a bad day. He was incredibly rude, disrespectful and salty in spite of my being as nice as could be. And that was even before he assured me that there was "no f***ing way anyone in town could do the job" I was asking for, even though another welder was able to accomplish it just fine about a year ago. If I could give NO stars, I would. While they got the job done, these guys were terrible. They basically told me to go home with my welding project and get it ready for them! Outrageous. The reason I sought them out was so that THEY could do the work. After sustaining multiple f-bombs and extremely rude service, I got what I wanted done done, but really, it was not worth it. These guys are jerks. They told me some sob story about not having insurance because some 22-year old's parents sued them for $22,000 because the kid got hurt at their shop. Why is that my problem? If you are offering a service, do it and don't complain about people coming to use your service. I won't be back and I hope that the Yelpers will stay away, too. STAY AWAY! read more

I don't yelp much, but this service actually earned the review, and I had to share their great performance. Dennis 24 hour Gate Services is able to handle any gate issues in the LA area. My gates were falling apart and building up rust, even with annual maintenance. It seems like Dennis has likely been in L.A. since the 80's-- the 1880's. I'm serious. I think his Conestoga wagon broke an axle on the journey west and he decided to stay and set up shop. (He probably ate his mule team too.) If you're offended by cussin', spittin', gruff old men I wouldn't bother stopping in. But if you're looking for top notch work done for Old World prices, he's your man. He can usually get your repair or project done the same day for cheap. Just show up with a "yes, sir" attitude and some cash (as best as I can tell he charges about $20/hour) and he'll treat you right. read more

Amazing work!!! Even though I had my doubts these guys came through true to their yelp reviews. They replaced the motor on a very old gate in our small building. After installation there were some hick ups but they were able to fix it immediately. They did not abandon their work instead they stood behind it. We were out every day for at least a week until he figured out a permanent solution. Thank you for always backing up your work. I will not hesitate to recommend. They were on time and had all the tools to fix the gate on the spot. Our whole building was stuck inside the parking structure and couldn't get out. Dennis is an old school no bs salty dog. I brought a chair to be welded he did exactly what he said for 20 bucks are you kidding me thats amazing. Any other place it would of taken a week and cost at least 100 bucks. He's the last of a dying breed. The shop looks like the set of Sanford and son, and he told me the history of my chair and why it's worth a few bucks, all while dropping f-bombs classic. So if you a politically correct d-bag skip this place if you want real work for a very fair price than this is the place. read more

My family owned the liquor store across the street from Dennis for about 30 years and he was always fair, helpful, polite to my Mom and Dad and me. He is a character - that's for sure - but a good one. If my aging Dad ever needed anything done Dennis was there to help if we asked him. It would be too bad if after reading the other favorable reviews about Dennis you came away thinking he's just some guy who does spot welding at fair prices. He's a lot more than that. For us, he effectively repaired a broken 65 year old architecturally designed fireplace grate -- he did just what we asked, but he also improvised where necessary, and did it all so that the restored piece looks exactly like it should: a well made custom fireplace grate. And there's something else. It would be too bad if you got hung up on Dennis' supposedly too ripe language. You'd do far better just listening to the content of what the guy has to say, rather than the straight way he says it. If you do, there's a fairly good chance that along with your welding job, you'll pick up a few valuable thoughts about what's going on...on the street, and in our lives. read more

They were very professional very nice and when I spoke to John he was able to help me out over the phone and gave me a quote that was the same quote throughout the entire process. Decided to try this welding shop since it was relatively close and a shop that's been around for some time. When I dropped my piece of at the shop, I was a bit annoyed at how rude and grumpy Dennis was. If you have sensitive ears and don't like to have a conversation laced with profanity, give this shop a pass. I explained to Dennis in detail what needed welding and was specific about an internal brace that he must fabricate and weld into the piece. When I returned to pick up the finished piece, the weld seams were amateurish at best. One side was ground down, the other side was left unfinished with big weld globs all over. Since I was in a hurry, I decided to live with it and finish the grinding myself. Before I left, Dennis reassured me that the internal brace was welded in place. This brace could not be seen since it was capped over. I took his word for it. Once I got the piece home, I found that the metal was butted up closely without any bevels before welding and that the actual welds were superficial without much penetration. In other words, the welds had no structural integrity and were essentially useless, especially after some cleanup grinding. I ended up re welding almost all of Dennis' work and found to little surprise that Dennis also lied about welding in the brace. I realized this when I stuck a piece of wire into the area that should have been blocked off by the internal brace, but the wire found no resistance, therefore no brace. Dennis claims to have welded on many Harley frames, and maybe he did, and maybe he was good at it once, but now, what I described above is what you may get when you take a chance with him. My advice? Definitely go somewhere else. read more
