I spoke to Keith on a Tuesday and took up a bicycle crank that needed to have the threaded insert removed because a friend of mine had not installed it correctly. When I got there he said too bad you didn't bring the pedal because this will be a really simple fix I could probably do it right now. I said no problem I can come back Thursday afternoon. Today Thursday he told me the charges are $60. I wish I would have checked with a couple of other places. quite a charge for something that he said was a quick and easy fix. Quaint shop. Nice enough guy. BUT. WOW! Ask for prices before making the trip all the way there. Or be prepared and walk in with your defibrillator. I was just quoted $50. for a piece of 3/4" diameter x 1.5" length stock aluminum rod that MIGHT cost all of $2.00. Asked for 3 straight cuts and 2 drilled holes (time including set up maybe 5 minutes --going at a snail's pace). And it'd be a week turn-around. Clearly not someone that cares to do small jobs. Or maybe just used to dealing with really rich people or stupid people. The next placed I called the guy laughed and said he had bigger pieces than that in his scrap bin and said "just come in he'd do it for $5.00 or $10.00" read more

These guys are solid. Fast, honest, and reasonable. Had some stripped torx screws on my mountain bike disc brakes, brought the bike in and 3hrs later they had replaced/drilled 4 x screws on both levers and replaced with some nice stainless allens. Brought the bike in on Wed and was told it'd be done friday but he called 3hrs later and it was all done. Solid work, definitely recommend, and will be back. Amazing & cute little shop! Came in to get our closet rod trimmed because neither Lowe's or Home Depot would do it. Honestly happy they didn't, was glad to be able to support this business. I just got a metal rod cut a few inches to fit in my closet. Called ahead of time they said they could do it and I brought it in the same day. Parking was scarce, but I found a place just a block away. It's down an alley (which they told me about over the phone ahead of time). When I got there the guy checked out my rod that I pre measured. Measured it again himself and then went to the back to cut it. All in all it took about 5 mins total and he didn't charge me for it. Such a sweet guy. I have two Oven door handles that were interfering with the refrigerator door opening. They needed to be reduced in size and I wanted them to have the same brushed nickel finish. After calling Thermador to ensure the handles were solid metal, I took the handles to Keith. He said it could be done and that the handles would weigh the same so that they continued to act as a counter weight to the function of the spring loaded oven doors. The Job couldn't have been done any better! The cut on the handles were precise, the finish matched the rest of the handle and the end product gave me the necessary clearance so the refrigerator door no longer hits the handles when it is opened. Just came back from Findlay's. Top notch shop! I will be a customer for life. They were able to open a 1/4" thick steel S-hook for me so I could remove and replace the worn seats from our swingset. Job took all of 15 minutes (opening and closing 4 S-hooks) and they could not have been more friendly or more efficient. They are cash only so make sure you have cash with you, but to put it in perspective, this was a job I could not do without hundreds of dollars worth of heavy machinery. They did it better than I would have in a fraction of the time for a total of 20 bucks. Can't beat that! Pro-tip: enter from the alley behind the building as that is where the shop entrance is located. read more

This place is a hidden jewel in west LA. I had a small project that I needed a bullet extractor lathed down by 1 mm and Keith had it done within 5 minutes and a very reasonable price. Keith, let me start out by saying thank you so much! I brought Keith a set of exhaust tips for my Camaro SS that have been discontinued and nearly impossible to get used however I did find a set. The used exhaust tips were scraped so badly on the bottom of them that metal was literally grinded off the tips and the remaining metal was jagged. Needless to say I was very nervous about anyone working on these since they really are not replaceable and expensive but I immediately felt confident in Keith and boy did he hit a home run. Keith set me up with an aluminum welder to add back the metal that had been grinded off from scraping the pavement over a long period of time and Keith did the finishing work and the exhaust tips came out PERFECT! Too bad I can't post before and after pictures. I then went back to Keith to have him modify a shifter knob for my Camaro SS. No surprise but Keith nailed that too with ease. This place is a great little find. I got some bar-end mirrors for my motorcycle, but the mounting hardware they came with didn't exactly fit my bars. Essentially I needed some metal cut off of the mounts. I brought everything in and explained what I wanted, and a couple ideas. After listening to my requirements, Keith made a couple suggestions on how to improve the fit, and quoted me $20, which I think is more than reasonable. I left everything with him and was able to pick up the bar-ends the next day, with perfect results. The parking/entrance is a little tricky if you've never been there. Go in the alley between Pontius and Cotner, drive past some of the mechanics that are there, and just before you get to La Grange you'll see a sign up high on the right of a brick building that says "Findlay's Machine Shop". Park right there, and then the entrance is the first wooden door in the narrow passage just left of where you parked. read more

I had a rather obscure request to modify a car seat buckle and only had a photo as a reference. Keith, who apparently is the proprietor, was able to eyeball what I needed and perform the modification in a matter of moments.
