We are restoring a 1939 apartment building in Los Angeles and they have been able to fix old metal screens, handles and things that I can no longer replace because I can't find them. They have also fabricated new things for me, like hose hangers and a steel pedistal. Carlos is knowlegable and friendly and their prices are very reasonable. When you have a minimum charge of $40 just to punch two holes in a handcart so that it can continue to be used? Two holes in a hand cart support so that it can swivel open and shut. I took it back home, got out a Phillips screwdriver and mallet and did it myself. Obviously not a neighborhood asset. The auto repair strip mall down the street said that seemed outrageous. The clerk should have just gone ahead and said it could not be done by them as a new cart can be had for $40. At least that way they would not have looked so foolish. A hand cart retrieved from the sidewalk that someone had tossed that i intended to use to get my distribution at the food bank because the previous cart's wheels gave out, So much for noticing local business while riding the bus. I wish I had read the reviews before considering them as not remembering the exact location had to take bus rides back and forth. The guy that got a shocker from his quote and actual price should have been advised ahead of time f there was potential for a difficulty increasing cost. Love this place! They do excellent work, are affordable, and quick. My business has brought a couple of pedicure stools here to be fixed, and the job is done perfectly every time. Last one I had an accidental time crunch and they made it work. Cannot recommend Hollywood Welding enough. This is the only shop I will be using for my business needs from now on. Give them a call to set up a drop off- you will be so happy that you did. I had a swivel chair where the rotating pole that was welded to the connecting disc broke. I called, they told me to come in, and they welded it right there on the spot. Clean weld, good price, and done in 5 minutes! Hopefully one of the other 5 chairs doesn't break, but if it does, I'll be back to Hollywood Welding! DO NOT DO BUSINESS AT HOLLYWOOD WELDING! I've been coming here for 22 years and the work was always satisfactory. A little pricy but good. Turnaround took a little longer. Never again. They have had paperwork for a bid for 5 weeks and never bothered to price it out. When I called they kept saying Carlos would call me back. I will never recommend this shop for anything again. Competitors are too hungry in this economy and jumped on the chance to get work in the door. I've got two new bids now and both are under what I expected and better yet- I got them in two hours from two different competitors. My client will pick one and we will see how the quality is and I'll update this post with the results and contact info. If they don't value their clientele and the work is pricy and only satisfactory why come back? I won't. read more

At the start of the week in the afternoon I stopped by Hollywood Welding to see if they'd be willing to weld the seat support back in position on my older roadster. After a cursory look I was given a price that was more than reasonable and we agreed I'd bring the car to the shop first thing in the AM. The next day I arrived while the crew was still wiping the sleep from their eyes and sipping morning coffee. Just your norm for top o' the day. We got squared away and they took the car into the shop and began working on the problem by first removing the l.h. driver's seat. Then one fella worked inside the car, the other backing him from under the car. In about 45 minutes the repair was finished so they began to put the seat back in place. An hour and 15 later they'd put in the four bolts. Two are a bit challenging to access, and although my mechanical aptitude is minimal, I've done it myself in less than half that time. Indeed, I offered numerous times to do it myself to free them to work their specialties. My offer was declined with each presentation. When the two men had finished the repair I asked what I owed. After the fella answered my question my response was, 'You're kidding, right?' I honestly thought he was having some fun with me at first. The amount was FOUR times the quoted price. While the car was on the operating table I had walked to an ATM and withdrew the maximum. At time to settle-up It wasn't enough. I was stunned. I'd prepared myself mentally in case the final cost was as much as twice the quote and was ready, I thought, to offer a decent TIP, but four times cleaned me out. As mentioned, everyone at Hollywood Welding was quite civil, even pleasant. They set right to the task, but then took far longer to reinstall the seat, held in with four Allen head bolts, than to do the actual work. The moment I walked into the shop I was greeted by Carlos who was nice, knowledgable and accommodating. I brought in an antique auto part from 1938 that had broken and was difficult to find elsewhere in the United States and they were able to weld it back together and work it back into it's original factory shape within a few days. They had great customer service and were able to give me a price range of how much it would cost to fix the leaf. I took it in, and they did a great job. I'm really happy with the results. I needed an 8' piece of 3/8" pencil rod steel for a project. The gentleman at the shop charged me 25.00! for the piece. Most places would charge about .65 cents a foot. Not these guys. I asked if I could have a receipt, for that I would have to pay $40.00. These guys are not worth doing business with. read more

Fantastic service. I had a vintage chair with a broken metal piece that needed welding. The owner was extremely friendly and very knowledgable. They are strictly a welding place but he knew everything about the make and designer of my chair and took care to be very careful with it. I have used Hollywood Welding for occasional projects for my customers for about 20 years. I have always been totally satisfied with the work they have done for me. Of course I try to make their job as easy as possible by making detailed drawings which communicates exactly what I want, with complete measurements, tolerances, assembly sequences, blown up details, and whether to follow instructions exactly, or if they can do it another way if easier. I also bring most of my own materials, frequently pre-cut to exact or near exact size. This saves them the time of trying to figure out what I want or get materials at welder rates, and gets it done the way "expected" the first time through. For those people who do not understand what is needed to get something done, they can always find something to blame others for in NOT SO blissful ignorance (bitchiness). And if someone does not get the meaning of a word such as "prototype," explain it in simpler terms such as, if I bring in drawings, can you make it, you are more likely to get the answer you want--just remember to bring in your detailed drawings,and show that you have some comprehension of what you want. If not they can try to figure it out for you, though you need some level of understanding to even do that. If you have a busy professional who does excellent work and you want him to show up for free, to educate you as to what you could do, but not give cause to expect that you will actually do business, and otherwise waste his time, you may have some unrealistic expectations. You may be accustomed to "free estimates" on site, however you will always pay in money for that "free" time, or low quality, for your unwillingness to get educated. If you show up with some drawing and explanation of what you want, you are much more likely to have someone believe that it is worthwhile for them to go to your job site. Photos might even save the trip. You can always find someone that can do it cheaper, but they may not be in business or even be able to legally be in business and do things like pay taxes, insurance and other overhead. It is not always the case, however if you don't really know what you are getting, you can get ripped off and not mind at all. Maybe it's like McDonalds give me free food because I'm hungry. Really, slackers? Hollywood Welding is a pro shop, and if you engage with a pro attitude you will get pro results. Give it a try and get happy. Terrible... Needed to make 15 foot gate. The estimate I got from Alvaro "the boss", was $584 for materials. $1,500 to make gate + $1,200 installation. Since the work was overpriced, decided to buy only materials. Hired handy man who did the job in two days. Paid him $600... SAVED $2,100..... Funny thing got left materials: one 2x2x20 and two 1/2x1/2x20 bars. CALLED ALVARO 5 TIMES TO ASK if he would take back leftover bars (original condition), event went directly to the shop. Alvaro had no courtesy to call back... Never will use this shop again. read more
