This park is great for a first stop before heading out for an adventure or watching the sunset while dining on some pizza from Gianni's. Lover's point offers plenty of opportunities for the kids to get worn out, like a public beachside swimming pool, beach volleyball, an actual beach area just inside the cove, and a grassy area for picnicking. even though this beach/park was packed, the vibe was still super chill and didn't feel overcrowded. This beach also offers some great opportunities for people to enjoy tide pools, watch wildlife, and take-in gorgeous views. There is a public bathroom here, but if you can avoid. The waves were calm early in the day then began to rage as the day went on. Wind was low and the sun began to shine bright, forcing the appearance of our tent. There were not many people out around 11a, as the day went on both sides of the beach filled quickly. There were three places on site to grab a bite to eat, caffeinate or cool down from - Creama (6:30a-2:30p), Lovers Point Beach Cafe (9a-4p) and Snack Shack (10-6). There was a clean, public restroom for men and women to the left of the cafe. Look for the yellow awnings and follow it to the black gates. Turn into that area and you will locate the restrooms. There is a volleyball court directly across from the beach, two sandy beach areas separated by a tall wall of rocks. The beach area furtherest from the parking lot had so much sea life to experience first hand - our daughter was amazed as were we. It was also quieter with fewer people using that side. There are 15 steps leading down to each beach area. The wildlife is everywhere and SO comfortable with people. A squirrel stood in front our daughter while she ate her cracker, a seagull stared at me while I opened a wrapper for our daughter. There was a parking lot that fits 20-30 cars and street parking. People were still arriving around 5p looking for parking in the lot unsuccessfully. I would definitely recommend arriving early to secure a parking spot and a preferred spot on the sand. Our daughter existed here for six hours and was still not ready to leave. She's a young one. There were lots of kids on the beach, most playing with each other and sharing buckets, shovels and seashells. We will definitely return before the summer is over. So breathtaking and fun for all ages to enjoy in and out of the water. read more

This is a beautiful Park with a lawn where you can bring a blanket, a bottle of wine and a picnic meal... or have fun catching a football ...or......walk along the path, climb some rocks, look at the ocean, and even feed the "PHAT" squirrels (lol) regardless why you find yourself here, it is worth the drive and the time to take a day, relax and take it all in. Parking doesn't seem to be a problem right up against the ocean front on the path near the park. read more

My 1st review of 2026!!! I've visited Lovers Point Park twice so far, and I love it here. :) My first visit was back in April of 2025, and I remember that I parked in the residential street and walked two blocks to get to the park. The place has nice walking paths, beautiful ocean views, and pretty park area with picnic tables. The squirrels are so friendly and will approach you without any fear. So friendly! My 2nd visit was today with my boyfriend and his doggie. It was his visit here, and we got a nice walk in plus we enjoyed our bagel sandwiches here. There's a long walking path, but we didn't get to walk all of it. Next time we will do it! :) You can also walk down to the beach area and climb the rocks if you're feeling adventurous! read more

I love Lovers Point Park and its surrounding area. The views are so beautiful and bring a sense of calm & peace. Ride your bike along the bike path and stop for a picnic or dip your feet in the ocean at the two connecting beaches. Caution climbing the rocks, amazing view but can be dangerous. There are few picnic tables but plenty of grassy area. Lots of squirrels, they will climb right in your lap looking for food if you let them. They have a bathroom as well. The immediate surrounding area to the park has a restaurant, a cafe, pool, snack bar, bike rentals and of course lovers point beach. This is a family friendly park where locals and tourists alike visit. It is very easy to spend an entire day here. read more

If I had to pick one favorite spot in California, this would be it!!! The water is sooo blue; just the way a person would imagine it to be . It's perfect for walking, eating, taking pictures--literally everything. There are plenty of trails and picnic/barbecue tables. You'll also see lots and lots of squirrels. The water levels at the beach can rise unexpectedly, so do your research beforehand. If you just want to sit and think about life, trust me--you'll love it here. Kids will love it too; my nephew was absolutely thrilled. Parking is usually easy to find. You'll see people doing all kinds of things--cooking, playing, taking photos--it's always lively but still peaceful. read more

This continues to be one of our go-to spots because it is kid friendly and no fuss. Parking is free but it can take a while to find a spot during peak times. The park is first come first serve but we always come for the small beach that gets full sun and is right off the Monterey Bay trail (accessible by foot, bike, or four rider rentals). There is a ramp to come down on the trail side, or you use the stairs on the park side. There are restrooms but I have not used them. In the summer the bathroom lines are always long. As always in this area the water is freezing but we love coming here because the shore is calm enough for kids to play. There is a place to rent kayaks and bikes on the shore. The beach is clean and you have great views. We usually have lunch close by in Monterey or Pacific Grove (lots of options on Lighthouse Ave) and then come here for 2 hours. There is a snack shop and cafe on site and a Seltzer restaurant across the street. Bring your beach gear and stay awhile! read more

This should definitely be included on your trip to Monterey, hands down. Everything about this park is so incredibly beautiful, relaxing, and enjoyable. We came during Spring Break, and maybe this just isn't a big destination? I feel like a lot of people travel during that time, but this park wasn't crowded AT ALL. Plenty of peaceful walking trails, benches, and look-out points to see the vastness of the Pacific Ocean. Lots of different wildlife to see (and plenty of squirrels running around everywhere!). Perfect to just sit (or stroll) and take in all the wonder that nature has to offer. We didn't stop here, but they had a little cafe and snack shack that you can stop and grab a drink or a quick bite. Seemed a bit overpriced for us, and there are plenty of other local coffee shops that we enjoyed. We stayed at the Lovers Point Inn less than a block away, so we would just walk over in the morning. But there was some street parking around - not sure how much it was. Definitely worth a visit. You'll enjoy yourself. read more

This lovely stretch of coastline was magnificent with the ice plants on bluff and lining both sides of the walking pathway. You have the gorgeous ocean view on one side and wildflower road on the other. The weather in Monterey is almost always perfect in May and we got a cool 68 with just enough sunshine for light but not blazing hot. We were so lucky to walk this stretch of the park soaking up the sun and taking in the view. It's so good to the soul. We also saw people enjoying the ocean water too. Definitely will need to take a longer trip here. A staycation is in order at lover's point beach. read more

Best reason to go to Monterey period ! We may have stayed in the highest ranking hotel but going to this place was the chefs kiss to this trip ! PARKING: it's not bad if you don't mind walking , considering you were planning to walk anyway this is a bonus to be able to see and feel everything on the way . You don't have to pay but in places you do it might be worth it . WALKING AND SIGHTSEEING : I don't know what you call them but the sea squirrels are the cutest thing ever and they have No problem being near other humans as long as you have a couple of nibbles to share ! It's beautiful , it CAN BE WINDY , depending on the time of year It probably could be pretty hot as well so ( dress accordingly !) PHOTOS AND EVENTS : this place would be amazing for a wedding photo shoot honestly , this was our 1 year anniversary trip but I could see us renting a photographer to do renewal phots for year 5 here just because we can and it's beautiful TLTR: it's beautiful , it's not congested the right amount of people , and it's a great place for beautiful photos ! Absolutely gorgeous view and a great place to take a walk (about a mile). There's benches and old picnic tables as well. Beware of the squirrels though! People don't realize it's illegal to feed them or any wildlife ($100 fine). One of the reasons given: "Feeding ground squirrels that burrow along the shoreline causes overpopulation and erosion. Banks weaken from the tunneling of too many squirrels. Waves pound the hole-ridden banks, causing shoreline and habitat loss." Let me tell you, they are so overpopulated here and do not hesitate coming up to you. So I hope tourists respect the wildlife and the beauty that this place allows us all to enjoy. Love this park! Magnificent rock formations, used as climbing structures, but also a backdrop for photos. Clear water with a beautiful green tint, splashing onto the stone walls and seashore, and steps leading visitors to the sandy beach below. A grassy area above, on ground level, with several picnic tables and benches, which we made use of on our recent visit. Even the lovely monarch butterfly sculpture by Gordon Newell on site, adding to the charm of this place. For added convenience, free parking is available as well. There are a lot of squirrels and birds in this park, and they're pretty aggressive too, but not scary, unless you're afraid of animals stealing your food. The squirrel almost climbed into my tote while we were eating dinner. And afterward, while lying on beach, the seagull was slick, sneaking up on us then snatching our bag of tortilla chips with its beak and quickly flying away to the other side of the beach. Just part of the beauty of nature all around, we appreciated every moment and had a relaxing time here. I can see it getting congested on warmer days since the space isn't very large, but we were lucky to come on an evening with cloudy skies and calm winds... no crowds... just perfect. read more

We were among a large crowd who pulled over the road and stopped at this Lovers Point Park to admire Mother Nature's beauty at its best. For future consideration: Bring a blanket and picnic basket. This use to be my place to come to while growing up here. I would come to try my hand at surfing, have a picnic, meditate, and Party! Oops, we were teens and I'm sure alcohol is strictly prohibited and that was Ages ago! Lover's Point is well cared for, you never seen trash on the ground. Everyone is there to just relax and take in the breathtaking beauty. There's a grassy area, a beach area, and lots of tide pools. Oh yeah and an endless walking/bike trail. We were fortunate enough to plan our visit on the most sun filled weekend in the wettest year that CA has experienced. I was in disbelief that there were people swimming in the ocean without a wetsuit?! It does get crowded here and if you can't find parking in the lot, you can find it along the miles of street parking along the coast. Enjoy! read more

Beautiful park! Open grassy area for picnics and hangouts. Great view of the ocean and even a stairway path leading down to a small strip of beach. The water here is clear and has a good wake if you're looking to get wet or do a little boogie boarding. Not entirely sure about the name though - not a lot of privacy for lovers due to the crowds! It's just a short walk from free parking near the post office. There are also lots too but just walk through the residential neighborhood for a few minutes and enjoy the ocean breeze. read more

How have I not done a review here? My fam and I absolutely love coming here! We're an animal loving family so feeding the squirrels is always something we do when we come to Monterey. We bring them a bag of peanuts and we, including Jax my dog, love to greet the squirrels. Tons come up at once. They've climbed on us and on Jax too and Jax just curiously watches them. They don't bite at all unless they try to get the nut and your finger is in the way so be careful. read more

Classic iconic Lovers Point. As a former local, this iconic pit stop in Pacific Grove is pretty familiar. In high school we were escorted via limo here for prom pictures before the dance. We used to ride out bikes along the bike trail from Del Monte to lovers point and back. Is it touristy? Yes. A bit too touristy on the weekends if I'm honest. But lovers point has some of the best views of the Monterey Coastline. Beach access, rocky points, wild life, great biking trails, eclectic shops and a few iconic food spots... all within .25 mile. Needless to say, it's worth the stop even if you just absorb the views for a few minutes on your way to the aquarium or 17 mile drive. read more

Lovers Point Park is a reserved section of land consisting of a little over 4 acres right along The Pacific Grove Shoreline Parkway & Marine Refuge. You can either hike the trail to get there or just drive to the tip of 17th Street. This very touristy and popular park can get crowded depending upon the time of day or day of week you go. There are multiple parking lots and street parking available, but even so, can still be difficult to find during busy times. We were lucky to stay at a nice hotel within walking distance and go early in the morning. We love to walk and get our exercise! The park can be used for picnicking, bicycling, fishing, swimming, water sports, Kayaking, and surfing. Lovers Point's amenities include a large lawn area, a beach volleyball court, a children's swimming pool, sandy beaches, rocky outcrops, a concrete pier structure, a restaurant, and a snack bar. It is also a popular place for weddings, and the home for the annual Feast of Lanterns pageant and fireworks celebrations. Besides the surrounding ocean views, it is a great place for bird watching, spotting marine mammals, tide pooling, and observing the funny antics of the cute ground squirrels. (People watching included). This park is more human activities oriented with scenic views as a side perk. Being called Lovers Point is great for the active couple and families, but not so much as a quiet romantic place for two, in my opinion..... read more

Small therefore a bit crowded, but beautiful!!! The beach area is relatively small, hence a bit crowded, you end up sitting quite close to other groups. Nevertheless, we found a good spot and enjoyed the little lunch picnic on the beach on a beautiful day with people watching and bird watching :) Outside the beach area the upstairs also has a garden area for picnic etc. This area is also quite small and crowded, but good to have the option in case you don't want to be on the beach/sand close to the water. Tons and tons of parking options - parking lots or on the streets; however, despite the many options this place does get busy and therefore parking is not easy to find. Lastly, given the beach is facing East, I have read that this beach is the best spot to watch sunrise...looking forward to revisiting during the early morning hours to view the beautiful sunrise. Location: This park is located just 10 minutes West of Monterey in a small town called Pacific Grove. Pacific Grove is know as the "Butterfly Town U.S.A" where many Monarch butterflies migrate to each year! Parking: Very little parking about 10 spots at the park itself and about 15 spots away from the park which is about a 5 minute walk. Parking can be a struggle especially on weekends and holidays.
